Well, I trust everyone had a peaceful evening. If you haven’t gone out and bought your turkey (or tofurky, depending on your preferences), I guess you’d better hurry up and get going. As for me, all the shit that I absolutely had to get done by today has been postponed for a week, which means I can go ahead and procrastinate a bit longer. Have a good day, and don’t make me get the Taser® out.

WTF was with some of you people yesterday? Jeez, live and let live.
If you find some of the posts irritating, boring or annoying, there is a simple solution. PAGE PAST THEM.
PJ has provided us with a forum to exchange thoughts and opinions. Some of the discourse is not always going to be personally illuminating to everyone. Such is life.
I know that when I post University of Akron football scores, no one else is going to give a shit. Perversely, that’s kinda why I do it. If you don’t care, that’s fine.
(The wasy the Zips have been underperforming this season, I would actually be a little concerned if anyone other than another alumnus DID give a shit.)
And there’s nothing wrong with flirting on line. Although I have to admit to being a little put out when Druid mentioned several other people who post here and left me out. :knit2:

Hey Kat. I’m back at it. Oddly, the only show I really miss is Boston Legal (Denny Crane!), but I’m even getting along OK without that one. Lost jumped the shark last season, and the Housewives were getting close.
Anybody else watching Studio 60?
:yippee:
kevin! cresttwo!
okay, enough of that. i don’t watch teevee except comedy central and i hate sports. so STFU. whew, i feel so much better!
yeah what kevin said!!!!! and in the spirit of morning sedition how they made fun of people saying “talk about the issues were fighting for our lives here” it didnt stop marc and mark from spending 20 minutes discussing the differences between splenda and regular sugar……
oh no booty last night for me :fustrate:
did have a good time with the girl i went on a date with though played pool and darts and what-not she doesnt know anything about politics though 🙁 she did say she normally votes dem though 🙂
the chick from the night before sent me some text messages and what-not because i rocked her world so hard she needed a repeat to make sure she wasnt dreaming that may happen tonight……:hubba:
then i ended up at the local boobie bar:boobs: with my room-mate might end up getting together with this smoking hot black stripper chick later in the week…… shoot i hope none of them are aware of the other:paranoid: this is getting messy time to hit the road again this is too wierd normally i am cooped up in my apt. when i am home talking to my roomie while he writes college papers now for some reason i am suddenly having all these girls fall over me very strange!!!!!
:pup::banana::pup:ok well fuck bush im out love you guys laters!
Why do so many people hate sports, and why does the media ignore them? They think we all live and die with the boring NFL. Did you know that one of the most popular activities in this country is bird-watching? When did you last hear anyone mention this without ridiculing it, or mentioning Alfred Hitchcock? :sammy:
oh yeah, sean,
talking about your fantasy sex life is out, too. and bouncing boobies only on friday cause randi makes it ok. got it?
:rant1: its real i swear! i cant believe it myself either but seriously its real!
bird watching is cool.
we can talk about that…uh…. i have 5 birdfeeders, how about you?
jeez sean:
it must be true, i can’t get a rise (hehe) out of you. and it’s usually so easy to push your buttons.
ok, i’m bored. somebody pick a fight with me.
personally, I’d hold off on the smoking hot black stripper chick until this Duke thing blows over.:sammy:
spent so much time catching up on the upstream stuff, I can only post a drive-by now. :smack:

Kev, i do watch studio 60 but I’m ready for them to move past the religious right thing – they’ve beaten the dead horse numerous times.
=> Have the Eberly Amish organic turkey (yes, i am crazed) ordered and the Tofurkey® in the freezer so T-Day is coming together. I’m cooking the whole shebang this year for family and friends so must….plan…..well!
this is an important read imho:

Seanie, glad you are having fruitful nights and…I agree with cresttwo at 14! :penguin:
Hey Seanie (again!) – this is right up your alley, so to speak:

have you ever tried slow roasting a turkey. one hour at 325 to kill the bacteria on the surface, then an hour a pound at 200. finish with 45 minutes at 400 to brown, or broil.
it’s from adele davis’ “let’s cook it right”, it comes out incredibly moist and tasty.
hey, where’s gypsy?
Just hung up a new bird feeder outside the kitchen window this weekend, in fact. It’s more for the cats than for me, though.
Oh, and we don’t all live and die with the NFL From now until (hopefully late) March, around my neck of the woods, we all live and die with SU Basketball. Then we switch to SU Lacrosse, before getting all excited over the summer about SU Football, only to be disappointed in the fall, and waiting for basketball season again.
Oh, and the #1 spectator sport in the US? You guessed it, NASCAR.

monday, monday
good morning everyone…..
I hope that you all are not serious about the whole content thing….its just silly to even think that….but at some point one topic can go on for months and months and its just all scroll ……come on already….
Its not about bird watching or sports scores. If any of us only talked about that with one other person for months it would be a little off putting…and to simplify things like that is unfair to those of us who spoke up rather than just leave.
Roxie, Kev, would you prefer that the bunch of us who spoke up just leave…or do we finally have a right to say something after months and months….?
Im happy to move along if thats whats happening here…but I figured that it was worth it to say something before I do.
I am so glad to have a few slower days to get stuff in order here. Mostly Im in tech hell now that linksys has died and new on is in the mail…and motherboard on desktop kicked last night….
Onward and upward….feeding animals….
Pj- Moom is big on the feeders and has so much fun with squirrels/birds/ raccoons and pouring money into the feeders…
But I finally shamed her into filling mine too; see, she has this theory that there are only so many birds here and she wants the good ones over there!! So she leaves my feeders dry lest I steal the goood birds!
She makes a fire over there with huge logs all weekend and she sits and watches the birds out of the side window….
and always has these long stories about the social interactions out there….!

i don’t want anyone to leave. i’ve made a mildly snarky comment or two myself about the nicki & susan joy show. only because i’ve come on, said something and got no response. oh well. at other times, i’ve waded thru pages and pages of posts, only to find something at least mildly interesting.
i know i haven’t been on this blog as long or as consistently as some, but i think there must be a way to deal with the family tension with humor and practicality.
i’m not discounting your suggestions, i liked the coctail party analogy — some of us are more extraverted than others however. if someone wants to huddle or cuddle in a corner… i don’t want them off the guest list either.
damn, i thought a little early morning humor might start the week out appropriately. my bad. it was probably a little early for that anyway.
PJ! how about my suggestion? a “who’s online” box.
ok
later :sheep:le
I tried a who’s online box. It was met with great resistance, as there are people who like to be logged in but not be seen as being online. Then there was the suggestion of a being allowed to be anonymous, but, well, that all starts to get into some time and effort that I don’t really have available to me at the moment. Maybe when I get done with this semester.
Hey, KP, what’s the model and serial number of your HP computer w/ the bad power supply? Also, and numbers off the dead one? Personally, I’m not beyond getting out the tin snips and “retrofitting” things, but then I’m not much on aesthetics (not for computers, anyway; maybe that’s why I don’t drool over Macs and iPods).
yeah , i was done with the subject, ha! i started the local 12 step group for people wgo can’t shut up: OAOA – onandonanon(ymous).
actually, i’d kind of miss the nicki and susan show. sometimes it’s kind of a guilty pleasure. but i’d also like to know if anyoneis around to yak at.
pj, couldn’t anyone want to lurk anonymously simply log off?
you were spot on. some people enjoy an audience! and sometimes i like being an audience.
but it would be nice to know who’s logged in. i stay logged on when
i’m doing other stuff. i’m sure others do the same. being logged on wouldn’t mean i was ignoring anyone but i would know when i checked in, who might be doing the same thing and could arrange a meet-up chronologically. see what i mean OAOA.
come on pj, can you try it again? how about it?
is it on yet?
Hey PJ, yeah I considered duct taping the thing to the side or going in there and hack sawing the platform it’s sitting on. The model # for the part is 5184-2191. P7490A is the system # the serial # is mx14804910. I found plenty on Ebay but i wanna get hold of the sellers and find out the dimensions of the thing. They look a little too thick in the photos.
I’m trying to register with Ebay and i am not getting the confirmation email.

The New York Post says that a group is getting ready to “swiftboat” ‘ol Rudy Giuliani. Here’s the list of issues the Post sees as problematic. Believe me, this is NOT a complete list, but it’s fun none-the-less:
* Bernard Kerik. His implosion as President Bush’s Homeland Security nominee is bound to taint Giuliani. New York’s former top cop under Giuliani was forced to withdraw his nomination amid revelations that he employed an illegal immigrant nanny, had ties to mob-connected businesses and carried on simultaneous extramarital affairs with two women.
* The Harding scandal. Giuliani hired the inexperienced son of Ray Harding, the politically influential head of the Liberal Party, only to see Russell Harding plead guilty to embezzling more than $400,000 from the city’s Housing Development Corp. Investigators also found child porn on the younger Harding’s computer.
* Marital woes. Giuliani was once married to a cousin, Regina Peruggi, then went through a bitter divorce with wife No. 2, Donna Hanover, while publicly romancing wife No. 3, Judith Nathan.
* Living arrangements. Conservatives might be put off by Giuliani’s decision to live with two gay men while estranged from his wife, Donna Hanover.
* Cross-dressing. Likewise, Rudy’s penchant for going for laughs by wearing a dress – for roles on “Saturday Night Live” and at the Inner Circle dinners -might not win him any conservative plaudits.
* Social issues: The former mayor has leaned left on gun control, abortion rights and gay rights, views that could put him at odds with right-wingers.
Norman Siegel of the NYCLU said he and others would gladly make the rounds with editorial boards to get out the other side of the Giuliani story.
Siegel clashed repeatedly with Giuliani and filed 27 lawsuits during his administration for alleged violations of the First Amendment.
“We won 23 in whole or in part,” Siegel recalled.
“Giuliani would not allow press conferences on the steps of City Hall. America doesn’t know that. Giuliani had a very poor record with regard to interaction with African-Americans and Latinos.”

Druid,
One of the things that “America’s Mayor” seems to ignore is that there is video tape. It’s hard to forget him announcing on TV that he’s leaving his wife to go live with his lover. Apparently, while he was announcing it to all of us, he was also announcing it to his wife, Donna Hanover.
Before we got a chance to deigest that he tried to make Hanover move out and then he tried to bring his girlfriend, Judy Nathan, into the mayor’s residence. The court shot him down citing the affect on his 2 kids. His next move was to move in with the gay guys.
Around that time someone started selling Voodoo Rudy dolls which we all used to good effect. T’was no accident that he got prostate cancer. I am so ashamed!
Someone who gets it
SBlueHeron, re 50
I thought Ed Rendell was”America’s Mayor”
YO Eddie!!!
Well, sure, Druid. But the best place to go is Shoutcast documentation page, and then read through the support forums. Lots of people far smarter than me there. Then just download the stuff and play. If it works, great. If not, you get to spend many hours cursing in frustration trying to figure it out. This is what I call “fun.”
sblue: :yinyang:
Speaking of shoutcast PJ is there any way to stealth port 8000? I tried a filter in the router but it doesn’t work the it does with port 113.
Ha. Christians gone wild! I like that. Having gone to a public school in close proximity to a couple of parochial schools, I can vouch for the effectiveness of Giacobazzi on Catholic school girls (though Boone’s Farm was the preferred concert wine, since the shape of the bottles made it easier to sneak in).
pjsauter , :rofl2::lol::rofl2: THX Will Do:!:
cursing in frustration Probably will do that too:yippee::wink:

In my day it was Annie Green Springs. I wonder if that stuff is still around?
Well, I use port 8888 for my Shoutcast, but whatever port you use has to be open. However, one thing you can do (at least, w/ my router) is direct an external port to a different internal port. For instance, you could create incoming links to port 3456, and then forward traffic to port 8000. Then port 8000 can remain closed and stealthy to the outside world.
Sue P :wink:It makes me more worried about anyone who ever voted for him.:barf: since they are :barf: SICK:!:

No no no no no no no! Melina no leave. That definitely was not my intent.
There’s a scene in one of the early MASH episodes where Hawkeye and Trapper are sitting around in the Swamp, getting annoyed with each other over a lot of little stuff and just general principle. They start whomping on each other with their pillows, then they suddenly stop and Hawkeye says, “Why are we wasting this on each other?” At which point they turn to the sleeping Frank Burns and both begin whomping the shit out of him.
Switch Bush for Frank Burns (they both have the same beady little eyes, come to think of it) and that’s sort of what I meant. Hey, at least it’s not a sports analogy. 🙂

PJ,
How accurate is the users online figure? Also, I think the people on the blog feature with an anonymous function for lurkers and the NSA might be a nice addition as your time permits. Then people to take it to the Chat Box for its convenience.
BTW, Al is about to talk about NOT leaving the show December 8 (I think).
I guess this means we’re not gonna get to leave voice comments?
Then again, maybe Al isn’t going to say anything. He sort of moved in another direction.
Roxie, I haven’t heard that particular bird recipe, but will check on it, thanks! I always brine the bird for 24 hours which keeps it very moist (or so the carnivores tell me).
hope al doesn’t leave. i like his
boringshow. He has good guests and I learn a lot about the neocons without having to read or listen to them myself. Al does better with an active – “straight” man/woman – co-host, imo.Al’s okay. The only way I’d want him to go is if I knew Marc Maron would take his place.
I think the show lost a lot when Lanpher left. He seemed like he could go it alone and soon started to bring underlings in but Katherine was more of a co-host and contributor than a captive audience.
She made real contributions and was a radio pro.
yeah, wvm, I’d even gladly put up with her over zealous & sometimes affected-like laugh.
You know something I miss out here is that they do not play much AAR on the weekends. The station manager (the same one who has started the ‘Al is leaving’ has put on a bunch of paid programming that is little more than infomercials and I just tune out for the most part and run Seditionist if I am on the computers. I liked a lot of those weekend shows in the old days, especially the cultural ones. For that matter, I enjoyed the earlier days of AAR when they broke up the politics with the books and music and films and FUNNY. I wish they would give Lanpher on of those weekend shows like the few she did back then although we would not hear it here.
At least the weekend shows are available for free download. I usually grab Steve Earle.

“Kramer” seems to lose it.
I’m looking at this MyChingo thing, and the big problem I have with it is (as far as I can see) there’s no way to limit who can leave a message. If you’ve ever read some of the spam I get, and some of the contact form submissions, you might understand why I’m reluctant to put that out there with not being able to hold people responsible for what they spew.
PJ, there is a limit to the free MyChingo of 2 minutes recording time. Two minutes is not much time to spew trash. Could we not try it out for a week and if it does not work then take it down?
Wouldn’t it be cool if Jim Earl, Kent Jones or Marc Maron left a message on MyChingo to all us bloggers. That WOULD be very cool!
Maybe Lawton Smalls would leave a comment or Angus McFarker?
So PJ do you know how I could add it to my site? I’ve not found a way to add html markup language to my iWeb. Guess that would be something I’d need to take up with Apple?
You just need to add the html to your page. I don’t know how Apple iWeb works, but maybe they don’t let you edit the html directly?
I might have to finally make a MY SPACE 😮 eck :slap:  (for :RATS: ):fustrate:

No I don’t think one can edit html with iWeb damnit

Houston janitors ended a month-long strike today against the city’s five major cleaning companies after reaching a tentative agreement that will guarantee higher wages, more work hours and medical benefits.
The settlement was hailed as a major victory for the 5,300 janitors who last year organized under the Service Employees International Union. It is the first citywide union contract since janitors formed a union last November.
“We’re very happy, and our members are ecstatic,” SEIU spokeswoman Lynda Tran said. “It’s an incredible, incredible day and this is a major victory.”
Under today’s agreement, the SEIU janitors will get a 126 percent pay raise over the two-year contract. On January 1, pay will increase to $6.25 an hour, a 21 percent increase over current wage of $5.15 an hour. That will go up to $7.25 an hour on January 1, 2008, and $7.75 on January 1, 2009.

Couple Calls for Global Orgasm for Peace
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Two peace activists have planned a massive anti-war demonstration for the first day of winter.
But they don’t want you marching in the streets. They’d much rather you just stay home.
The Global Orgasm for Peace was conceived by Donna Sheehan, 76, and Paul Reffell, 55, whose immodest goal is for everyone in the world to have an orgasm Dec. 22 while focusing on world peace.
“The orgasm gives out an incredible feeling of peace during it and after it,” Reffell said Sunday. “Your mind is like a blank. It’s like a meditative state. And mass meditations have been shown to make a change.”
The couple are no strangers to sex and social activism. Sheehan, no relation to anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, brought together nearly 50 women in 2002 who stripped naked and spelled out the word “Peace.”

Air America Gets Another Week for Sale
NEW YORK (AP) – Air America Radio, the liberal news and talk radio network headlined by the comedian Al Franken, has another week to find a buyer.
A lawyer for the network, Tracy Klestadt, told a bankruptcy hearing Monday that the company was in “advanced negotiations with a few parties” about a sale, and expected to have more definitive news on a deal in a week.
Under its financing agreement, the network had faced a deadline of this Wednesday to have a deal in place for a buyer, but Klestadt said the network’s lender had informally agreed to extend the deadline by about a week.
(snip)
It is continuing to operate in the meantime as it searches for a buyer. Klestadt declined to say who the potential buyers are.

A disgraced lawyer and his wife, who live three doors away from Bill and Hillary Clinton in Chappaqua, were shot and wounded in a mysterious incident, cops said yesterday.
Carlos Perez-Olivo, 58, told doctors he and wife, Peggy, 55, were waylaid by a gunman as they drove home to their two-story Colonial home on leafy Old House Lane in Westchester County late Saturday.
Bleeding from a stomach wound, Carlos Perez-Olivo managed to drive his critically wounded wife to Northern Westchester Medical Center in Mount Kisco, but gave authorities only a sketchy account of what happened.
Cops were puzzled over what might have sparked an attack on the disbarred attorney, who has a string of unhappy clients, and his schoolteacher spouse.

so did anybody watch the pacquiao fight? he knocked morales out in the third!

Nick, I just heard at the video game store that OJ Simpson put a signed PlayStation 3 on eaby and sold it for something close to 10 grand….I wonder if thats true if the goldman’s get that $$ or if its cash and really untracable.
The big story today has been should thew people who got them keep them or sell them. This is what happens when you go mall shopping. I had to pick up Will’s Wii (nintendo’s new game console) and after the extra controls and the nunchuck controls and the couple of games that had to be secured because they too will sell out, I spent $400…..and some little games for Fritz (one of the assorment of kids who lives with Ben)
Sharper Image has some cool things…..a hovering soccer disc that you can kick around inside and it has an air cushion so it goes really far but is very gentle on the furniture….
I have worshiped Macs from the beginning (and Steve Jobs). But alas, NEVER a Mac. They are from the area I was from.
AIV
Mac is no miracle. I can attest to this fact. Mine won’t let me add MyChingo to my website, Baaahhh. I hear the Wii is great machine. Sony is way over priced. OJ is 👿
well, not me…I wish to be on a mac system right now, but I dont like the OS and all the cuteness of it….I also dont feel like I can open it up. I would never have gotten this thing runnign if I hadnt taken off the side and messed aroudn with all the cards and power source. If a Mac stops working what do you do? Call tech support…..Though Im hearing for my friend who is just switching to mac that the tech support is excellent.
Well, People love the Wii…I want the XBox 360 because I like the pinata game. Apparently there are good and bad pinatas and you can send your friends exploding ones…the graphics are great.
Wow…TomKat kissed for 3 full mins at their ceremony, much to the distress fo the guests…went on too long to be real….Thank heavens Keith covers this stuff or I would never know!
Oh, you have to be able to edit the html, I would think. Certainly it isn’t anything you can’t do on your Mac, it’s just a matter of finding out where iWeb let’s you do it. It should have some cutsey button somewhere.
I love my little Mac computer. I wish yall would be nicer to it. It is a “BLUE” machine in a “RED” world. We must all de-program ourselves away from Windows.
The pages of my web are stored on the .Mac servers. I can get to them. I’ll work on it some other time. Just enjoying being here right now.
PJ, sometimes I get bumped to another day….wvm just posted over there too….something about turning off the mic on the mac….? Im confused….I was just on yesterday after refresh….
Greetings blogarino’s!
Mac is a hardware company. Windows is a software company.
Cruise is trying to prove he isn’t gay. I so hope he is not. But I could care less. He isn’t my type. Scientology! Please.
Nick I listened to the live show in the car this afternoon…i didnt even know I had it but itunes put it on my ipod
Yup you are right PJ, so sorry. But I think Apple is a bluer company. Corporate America? Who knows.
It was not one of the better shows. Trying to do two hours? No way will I ever try to do one so long without a lot of you guys and ladies around to join in the conversation. It was fun though. John Ong showed up unexpectedly. And Andy joined in the conversation. Everyone of my gay friends loved Andy’s voice.
Wow, I must be time travelling. I just ended up in yesterday.
Anyone know how to turn the Mac mic off.
I have an IMac 4 and a 4-5 year old PC laptop working in front of me. Except that the IMac is newer with loads more memory, I’ll take the PC. I just moved back to use it for everything but downloading and rue the day it finally craps out.
You received the show because you must have subscribed to the podcast. Since I uploaded the live show to my podcast page you automatically got it on your ipod. That is what I like about using Garageband, iWeb and .Mac to do my podcasts.
Yeah, Apple is a blue company. Microsoft is decidedly red. I have nothing against Macs. It’s just too bad Apple decided to keep everything proprietary, instead of licensing the architecture, the way IBM did. It’s what allowed the IBM PC clones to flourish (and, unfortunately, for Bill Gates to make a bundle on Windows and Office).
Just go to System Preferences on the Mac and choose the Mic you want to use.
the religious holidays are cash cows, but thanksgiving not so much…?
Comment by roxieseattle — November 20, 2006 @ 1:27 pm
The thanksgiving turkey should be stuffed with presents if anyone other than grocery stores are gonna make money on Thanksgiving.
It’s still getting into the friggin 80’s here! It’s been very nice weather but I want a good week long freeze to kill all the bugs. They’ve been really bad this year.
PJ could you delete Druid’s failed attempts at leaving a voice mail message. She did not realize you need a microphone to record a voice mail with the new message system.
I may be speaking wrong – Mac/Apple Whatever 😮 …
but Windows are cool too (but not a Mac/Apple:wink:). It hates me (It’s Alive, It’s Alive), my computer. And after I get about 11 plus Windows it “freezes”. Bah Humbug.
AIV
Thanks for the parts links PJ. I finally got my Ebay confirmation.
Currently 38 degrees in Birmingham, Alabama :cold:
cnick  druid
CNick, No, no  I feel for you. If I was in mountains it would be in 30’s , and it would get soooo cold it would feel my fingers would break off. So I will try to keep you laughing so you feel warmer. :rofl2: computerese   :rofl2: 😉
AIV
did you find that headset yet druid. We all wanna hear you!
Tonight I will try to have time to find your number amongst pages and pages of emails, then make a file “for you” so I can laugh with you again. 😉
AIV
You had me going earlier Druid. You made me smile . . . and laugh. And that is a good thing since I’ve been so down lately.
nick- I was off ordering food on peapod…delivers the heavy groceries and I have to bake pies this week!
I though that John Ong was a little stiff …I havent had time to hear his podcast, but he seems to be a little less spontaneous on someone elses show. I dont know much about him so would have liked to hear more about what he does….
Andy was great…and yeah, he has a great voice….I would have liked to hear more of the religion talk….You should schedule him as a guest coming up and delve deeper into what happens to devout religious people that opens their eyes and what theyre left with…because it must be a very upsetting transformation if the church was pretty important.
But, what theyve been supporting doesnt make sense….its really interesting to hear what people think of it and how its effected them….
why do you think youre down Nick?….did you feel the letdown after the election? I did….and just exhaustion catching up with me.
I guess its that and this time of the season. I really miss my folks. This time of the year brings it home to me I guess. I’ll be okay though.
It is in this/my office, and I have to SCAN a zillion articles for research and it is lost amongst the stacks of books and papers.
I have to run to store, then I will search — but I have been (causally) looking….but I will try harder. 😀
Never take your parents for granted. Show them your love every chance you get.
sorry that youve lost your parents so young….I cant imagine, though mine can be a real handful…then the grandparent still living….
but I think its important to have them around even if they drive you crazy. I guess thats why we try so hard to put up with this or that.
Will you go toyour sister’s?
I wish I could just see my few good friends this year.
My Mom is so beside herself about the upheaval in my sister’s mariage and how bad the ex or not husband has been to her in particular and me secondarily….its difficult
It’s okay Druid. Whenever you get a chance. I know what its like trying to find things. Much of the time they are right in plain sight. But I just look right past them. I donno why.
well, if I could, I would take mom to a long weekend spa or something…I really feel like the family is more me, her, and Will these days….the rest have been very disappointing….
on the upside, I am getting a handle on the christmas shopping thing….I want ot be mostly done when I go away so I dont have to worry
I finally got my co-op america book and kit. I joined to support green and blue broducts…and I guess there is some discount.
This is pretty nice
I am leaving Thursday for Muscle Shoals, Alabama. My homeplace. We’re all getting together at my neice’s for Thanksgiving on Thursday night. I’ll probably stay the night with my best friend Steve and drive back to Birmigham on Friday morning. I have a long weekend. I so wish I never had to work again. I’m not lazy. I’m just exhausted with life. I’ll stop.
You know, my aging father used to be very active in the church. Choir, board of whatevers…After my mother died, he re-married and changed churches for her. Nothing too radical, Methodist to Presbetyrian. He became very active in that church. Then his new wife also turned out to be a right wing evangelical wack nut as well and in time just sat in the bedroom listening to the nutjob preachers on the radio and sending them checks. Eventually he got fed up and they diverced and she took him for a big chunk of what he had. Not entirely unfair since she gave up a very secure life as a widow to marry him but a big bite. Went back to his old church but had some medical problems that limited attendence. He did not go back much after he was fixed. Then he stopped going altogether. Now he lives in a Methodist home and they have services at the home every Sunday and he still does not go.
I think it is the politics. Ror a Richmonder, he is a Liberal Democrat and I think he was made to feel unwelcome.
I just realize I might have (thx to Melina) the time when everyone called in. What day was that…I want to see and hear Andy. I may tease but religion is part of my breath since a babe. (I knew mass in Latin by 6, then they switched to Engish only.) Or did he and you speak of religion? If so What Date? Please. Or give me the general dates, since you should not waste time on it.

Gosh, I guess I really need to be getting ready for bed. Got’s to get up very early in the morn. And it will be a cold one to be sure. Brrr. I should have gased my car up this afternoon. Now I’ll feel the cold steel in my hand in the morning. O well. Good night everyone. Thanks so much PJ for adding the new toys (tools) feels like Christmas already has come for me. And thank you my dear sweet Druid for making me laugh tonight. And Melina for the encouraging words. What you say helps me. Later. I’ll try to be more upbeat tomorrow.
Yeah, I know the feeling….Im so glad that I made myself book this trip next month because I feel like, if I can just get everything done I will have 7 days and even if I just lay in bed it will be OK….I will just lay around and read….thats all….maybe kayak and snorkle too….meet guys because the single dads go there with their kids…try to maybe have fun.
My cousin wa shere for the weekend and she was just in Mexico because she has become something like the #2 world amateur woman bass fisherwoman….and she said that it will be very hot and nice in mid december….
feel good nick…sweet dreams….next car you get have an automatic starter installed. I set my heat on this evening so I can warm it up before I get in…well worth the extra $400.
I’m just exhausted with life. I’ll stop.

Shit, I know what you mean Cnick. And then, here comes the stupid holidays to rub it in. :smack:
wvm….seems that the more normal people are moving away from the church and even the more loose sects are becoming unwelcoming to those that they should be trying to attract. How did it get hijacked like that?…more than the bushies and media push towards whatever morality they think they represent…I think that there is this undercurrent of some sort of culture…like the left behind books which are such a phenomena…the best selling books ever….and this growing anger and worry about losing some sort of moral level that seems blown all out of proportion…like the red scare….Is society really breaking down?
Is Jesus a vengeful leader who is gonna strike down anyone not following the rule of law of certain sects? How did that papyrus leaf get so twisted? This is the real weakness of man…
hey krista…I wanted to say that if you find the cord on ebay Ill buy it for y ou hand have it shipped to you and you can just reimburse me however you want…then you dont have to deal with ebay….though I like them alot, you know…;-)
Im happy to do it for you if you want….
Krista what does your dad think of the turn of events…have you avoided talking about it or….god I hope you dont have to go over things for thanksgiving….its fun to rub it in if its general repugs, but when its your dad (or my karate teacher here) it can be messy…
Don’t forget we’re your buds Nick.
I think Nick is sleepy bye…he gets up damned early for his job…
Thanks Melina, I’m gonna order the part tomorrow. It’s not very much and I’ll just put aside my fear of buying things online this time. I’m sure i’ll live. 🙄
I haven’t talked to my Dad about the recent election. He’s supposed to be rolling through town soon. Not sure if I’ll bring it up or not.
I guess I am not one to really talk about religion because I walked away years ago. But to my family it was important so I respected that. As long as they did not try to shove it down my throat or stood in judgment of me or others. Unfortunately they did at a point early enough in my life to mess up our relationship to this day.
I hate being the most tolerant in the room and I can’t take it anymore. These Xtians have really pissed me off. I have found it amazing that as a non-believer, except for maybe sexual mores (who knows who is right on that one), I am probably much more Christian than they are at least from what I got from the teachings of Christ for 18 years. That my father can’t spend the remainder of his days as a part of that faith and community in which he lived really bothers me, especially when it is a short stroll down a long hall.
I think I am becoming an Atheist. All these friggin fanatics have made me realize that religion was invented to control people and I want no part of it. I’m sick and tired of religion and all the bullshit it spews into the world.
I know it’s early here but I don’t care, I’m going to bed anyways. Monday is a crappy night for tv anyways.
I guess I are one but I never wanted to really label my self as such.I really enjoy Marc’s read on religion and Xtianity. I think he nails it (no pun intended, at first).
well, the whole tihng should be about community…The jews are pretty good about that but they sort of exclude outsiders in their belief of being the chosen ones….but most just sort of disregard anything that seems silly and go on with life….I find alot more tolerance even amonf the more conservative parts of the jews…maybe not the hasids or the really orthodox…but the regular conservatives who maybe separate women and men and eat kosher only, can be so much more tolerant of personal issues that the bible thumpers…
Its like some part of society hijacked a big part of th ebelief system of this ocuntry and hyped the big dangers…and people are so stupid.
I was just looking at the news of the world or globe or whatever in the market and its got all of these predicitons that are like, N. Korea is gonna unleash biological warfare and disease on us….Iran is going to take over….all of this hysterical stuff…then IM sure in the back you can have a crystal ball reader tell you the future or send away for the miracle weight loss pills….and the televangelist is represented there too….
The problem is the educational system in this country…dumbed down is putting it mildly.
oh yes, his thing about magic and flying…its so great
Krista- studo 60 is on…thats great!
Im a big fan of prison break too but Im taping it because Im behind a few weeks….
nite all…..jon stewart is very funny tonight…..
I am going to try to be brief (not always easy for me).
Studio 60 is great and I don’t get NBC. I have to download it every week but it usually (knock on wood) gives me something to look forward to on Tuesday. I do hope they move away from the religion a little but I like that tension. I was very upset when I saw it might not make it since it is the first show I have committed to from the start since Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. It sounds like they are going to get at least a season.
Judaism might be the closest thing to what I might consider for a faith but it is still an organized religion and the organization has a whole lot of politics wrapped up in it these days as well. Most of my best friends are…
I am sure there is more but I am distracted by dinner and I need to get out the recycling and garbage.
hello folks:
blogs kind of deep tonight.
lost my mom 4 years ago after a 4+ year slide downhill, then my sister – totally unexpectedly – 2 years ago (sept 11th: not an easy date to forget).
this is not my favorite time of year for sure…
wvcm – I gave up on church when I was 12. I was spending part of the summer with my very catholic grandmother to get my annual indoctrination. while I was gone my cat disappeared and nobody really tried to find him. they found him a week later under the bathtub where he’d gone after he got in a serious fight with a dog or a very bad-assed cat. anyway his wounds were infected and he was half dead already, so he was put to sleep.
I came home from six or seven masses a week, catechism classes, novenas and rosaries…to the story of my dead cat.
put me right off church.
sounds like your dad’s maybe feeling that way — doesn’t sound like organized religion’s worked out the way it’s supposed to for him. are you taking him out for dinner on christmas?
melina: the disc thing at sharper image sounds intriguing. can you use it outside or does it just keep going if it doesn’t bump off something>
cnick: if you’re not asleep. eventually, i’ll figure out how to use the skype on my mobile to call the show. me and druid could start the techno-infant remedial branch of ms’ists.
OAOA all
roxieseattle, re 188 cnick: if you’re not asleep. eventually, i’ll figure out how to use the skype on my mobile to call the show. me and druid could start the techno-infant remedial branch of ms’ists.

our computer skills
our many strays and adoptees.
we must chat around christmas if not before.
Back in a bit…gotta run to store 😮 :omg::eek:
i’ll check back on the hour.

My family is in Va and I am in CA. I opted out of Christmas years ago. If I could, this year I would actually go back but it just can’t happen and I will probably have to go back by the spring.
Sorry about your Mother and Sister. Lost my mother 14 yrs ago and a sister 6 yrs ago.
I am not a holiday person but that is the toughest part.
wvmc:
on the other hand, think of all the obnoxious relatives you don’t have to put up with…
always a silver lining!
Every year with joy. That 3000 miles has been a blessing mostly.
I must love housework
I could spend every minute of every day and couldn’t keep up.
