Future Dimming for Puerto Rico Telescope
ARECIBO, Puerto Rico (AP) – At the world’s largest radio telescope, astronomers searching for asteroids on a collision course with Earth are bracing for a more worldly threat: The steepest budget cuts and first layoffs since the observatory opened in 1963.
Managers are warning staff and outside astronomers to prepare for a leaner future, with fewer research projects and less telescope time available as they finish a costly repainting job amid a looming cut in U.S. government funding.
“This place will change dramatically,” Robert L. Brown, director of the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center, which includes the observatory, said in a recent interview.

EPA May Drop Lead Air Pollution Limits
The Bush administration is considering doing away with health standards that cut lead from gasoline, widely regarded as one of the nation’s biggest clean-air accomplishments.
Battery makers, lead smelters, refiners all have lobbied the administration to do away with the Clean Air Act limits.
A preliminary staff review released by the Environmental Protection Agency this week acknowledged the possibility of dropping the health standards for lead air pollution. The agency says revoking those standards might be justified “given the significantly changed circumstances since lead was listed in 1976” as an air pollutant.
The EPA says concentrations of lead in the air have dropped more than 90 percent in the past 2 1/2 decades.
But Rep. Henry Waxman (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., the incoming chairman of the House Committee on Government Reform, called on the agency to “renounce this dangerous proposal immediately,” because lead, a highly toxic element, can cause severe nerve damage, especially in children.
“This deregulatory effort cannot be defended,” Waxman wrote EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson.

McCain taps ‘Call Me’ attack ad producer to be campaign manager
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), regarded as a top presidential candidate for the 2008 election, has lined up a controversial attack ad specialist to be his campaign manager, RAW STORY has learned.
Chris Cillizza writes at The Washington Post’s political blog, The Fix, that “according to a source close to the McCain operation, the candidate has lined up Terry Nelson to serve as campaign manager,” once McCain’s campaign becomes official.
Nelson, along with Karl Rove protegรฉ Scott Howell, produced a controversial ad in Tennessee’s 2006 U.S. Senate race between Democrat Harold Ford, Jr. and Republican Bob Corker in which a white woman seductively invites an “off-camera” Ford to call her. Ford, an unmarried African-American, and Corker, the white former mayor of Chattanooga who eventually won the open Senate seat, both criticized the ad. The NAACP said the ad was “a powerful innuendo that plays to pre-existing prejudices about African-American men and white women.”
It’s not the only controversy in the career of Nelson, who served as political director of the 2004 Bush-Cheney re-election team.
He was supervisor over James Tobin, the convicted New Hampshire GOP operative who schemed to jam Democratic phone lines in the 2002 election season.

U.S.-Bound Cargo to Be Screened at Six Ports
U.S.-bound cargo will be scanned for nuclear and radiological material at six foreign ports starting in February under a pact with host governments announced by U.S. officials yesterday, including a port operated by an Arab-owned company that ignited a political storm in Congress.
The Homeland Security and Energy departments next year will begin scanning all U.S.-bound containers at Puerto Cortes, Honduras; Qasim, Pakistan; and Southampton, England, officials said.
Limited scanning will also be done at Salalah, Oman; Singapore; and Busan, Korea, on a trial basis. The program will cover more than 7 percent of 11 million containers annually shipped to the United States.

U.S. port security unlikely to stop nukes: experts
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Bush administration efforts to screen U.S.-bound cargo for radioactive weapons are unlikely to stop a determined militant group from smuggling nuclear material onto American soil, experts said on Thursday.
Peter Zimmerman of Kings College, London, and Jeffrey Lewis of Harvard, who have researched the task of building an improvised nuclear device, said anyone hoping to hatch a nuclear attack on the United States would most likely build the weapon on American soil.
That would require them to smuggle highly enriched uranium from abroad. But packaging material as common as aluminum foil could shield the uranium from scanning devices meant to detect radioactivity.
“I am not presently optimistic that current efforts to inspect and scan will have any payoff against highly enriched uranium,” said Zimmerman, a nuclear physicist who is director of the Kings College London Center for Science & Security Studies.

Oil groups dream of day they can enter Iraq
( snip)
The big groups are therefore seeking to prepare for the day when they will be able to enter Iraq, trying to create closer relationships with Iraqi officials and to gain information about oilfields in ways that do not require visits to the country. BP and Royal Dutch Shell agreed to provide free assessments of the geological, technical and other data on Iraqโs two main oilfields, Kirkuk in the north and Rumaila in the south. This has helped them catch up with competitors such as Total, which may have gained access to such data when they negotiated contracts with the Saddam regime. Others such as Chevron have forged relationships and gleaned information by organising training sessions for Iraqi engineers outside Iraq.
There has also been concerted lobbying, some of which came to light during Australiaโs ongoing official inquiry into kickbacks the Australian Wheat Board is alleged to have paid during the Saddam era. Documents published by the inquiry of meetings among diplomats, business executives and lobbyists show that companies such as BHP Billiton, the Anglo-Australian mining and oil group, actively lobbied the US and UK after the invasion in the hope of securing contracts for Iraqi oilfields.

Report says Saudis are major financers of Sunni Insurgents
CAIRO, Egypt – Private Saudi citizens are giving millions of dollars to Sunni insurgents in Iraq and much of the money is used to buy weapons, including shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles, according to key Iraqi officials and others familiar with the flow of cash.
Saudi government officials deny that any money from their country is being sent to Iraqis fighting the government and the U.S.-led coalition.
But the U.S. Iraq Study Group report said Saudis are a source of funding for Sunni Arab insurgents. Several truck drivers interviewed by The Associated Press described carrying boxes of cash from Saudi Arabia into Iraq, money they said was headed for insurgents.

BAGHDAD (AFP) – US forces have killed 20 Al-Qaeda terrorists, including two women, in a ground assault and air strike northwest of Baghdad.

US “whistle blower” fears US has plans to attack Iran
Stockholm- American Daniel Ellsberg, famed for leaking classified documents on the US war in Vietnam in 1969, Wednesday expressed concern over possible US plans to attack Iran. Ellsberg was one the winners of the 2006 Right Livelihood Awards, often called the Alternative Nobel Prizes, to be handed out on Friday (December 8) at a ceremony in the Swedish parliament.
Ellsberg said it was key for US officials who had information and documents relating to plans to launch airstrikes on Iran to leak them in order to “avert a war” that may include the use of nuclear weapons.
“There is a much better chance of stopping an Iran war before it starts,” he said.
Information about the possible attack plans have been mentioned by unnamed officials, quoted among others investigative reporter Seymour Hersh, but documents would back up these reports, Ellsberg added.
However, ultimately the individual must weigh the personal price for such a discloure, Ellsberg said.
Speaking about the current US administration, Ellsberg said “we have seen them do things just as crazy in Iraq and you might hope they have learned, but all the evidence from the inside is that they have not learned.”
In an op-ed piece in Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter, Ellsberg Wednesday urged US allies in NATO to leave the alliance if the US carried out the airstrikes or deployed nuclear weapons.

I heard a promo for the show during Franken’s show yesterday, and Sam didn’t mention Marc, so I’m guessing he probably won’t be on. But I’m tuning in just in case.
Speaking of Franken, today is the live show from Minneapolis. Tom Davis and Katherine Lanpher are both scheduled, which smells like a farewell show to me. Al is off beginning next Monday for the USO tour, and won’t be back (if he’s coming back) until after the first of the year.
Note to Al: Please please PLEASE don’t do Mastication Theatre. Go out with a little more class than that. The Oy Oy Oy Show is OK as always. And don’t forget to miss all your cues when you go to hard breaks – we wouldn’t know how to act if you actually hit them more than once a show. ๐

The pump is down in the well. I just called the well man and he said to put a space heater in there and turn off the power to the pump, give it a couple hours and if it’s not working, call him back. He said it sounds like it’s frozen. Oh, I so hope. It’s a very deep well so I guess it’s the pipes the freeze. Our water main broke the other night and I had to call an emergency plumber. I feel like I’m living in a movie and I need chewing gum to hold the house together. It’s actually a well-built house, guess it is just time some things break. :omg:
Kat do you have plastic or copper pipe in the well house ??..Plastic usually is more forgiving than copper is to having the water expand inside it . If the pump is in the well it should be fine as long as the temperature does not stay below freezing for several days .
Oh MAN! :rofl2: Goyette is playing a clip of John Stewart. It’s a really good one!:rofl2:
Did Sam say that Marc would be on today ??
plastic at the pump house, copper at the house. (scary that I know this!). The break we had the other night was at the connection between the plastic and copper up at the house – it was a freaking river under the house. They’d put in a valve at the joint and then buried it three feet and it was at this useless valve that the pipe broke.
I am having trouble getting the stream at AAR but Sam not :sammy: Seder has Marc Maron on his list for today.
Kat Just don’t put the space heater to close to the plumbing. Plastic is not very forgiving to being melted .:eek:It stinks too .:yuck:.

so tech peoples….I need some help and pj is busy on his projects…if any of you techy guys out there would help me it would be appreciated.
Seems that Monarch computer is going under and thats why they havent followed through…
I figure that for time’s sake I need to get another desktop because thats how I run things and what Will uses….
I might as well rebuild this PC over the holidays or right in the new year …just for fun…so I need to order new parts from somewheres like new egg or tiger…
But I want to tell you what Ive got and see what I should get because Im hearing that its best to invest in a better motherboard etc…
At this point I think I need ot replace the power supply, the motherboard and the HD.
The memory is pretty new…and Im sure that I dont want another ASUS motherboard because this one has failed 2 times and the forums at MOnarch are all full of failed ones…Id prefer ot spend a little more and get a better one….or the best one….
And I want to try to figure out how to build a computer…but I dont necessarily want to do all the settings if I dont have to.
I just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone has any ideas on what to order to replace the following:
ASUS K8V Deluxe Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (retail)…maybe dont need to replace this part?
Western Digital 2000 JB 7200 R
Liteon DVD LDW811S (r/rw…drawer sticks and I have to use a butter knife to get it to open)
Power is Antec true 380 (380 W max)
There is also ASUS Radeon 9600 XT 128 MB DDR
and Corsair 3200 512 cas 2 Meg ddr.
I am only just up to year 2 of this machine and its been alot of trouble…and the company started going down over the summer…now they seem to be going out of business.
I can probably get the parts replaced directly by the suppliers and then sell em on ebay or use them to build something else…but for now, I figure I should try to order some parts in the direction of trying to rebuild this thing just to see if I can.
Meantime, I have to load replay and my phone and palm stuff into the laptop that I rebuilt before…and load my ipod somewheres….
The new dell is so fragile that it crashes everytime I try to add software…I have to deal with that but for now have to get up and running so I have something to take travelling with me in a week…
any help will be appreciated…and there is no rush!!
I am only in
Kat…if you can plug in a space heater try that…also maybe a heair dryer on the pipe directly. The pump guys just use a torch!
I had my old pump house put underground last time I did big digging here…well, maybe 2 times ago…but anyway, the pipes in the studio still freeze if Im not careful and now I keep one of those tapes attached.
I guess you dont have to worry much about that down there, but it seems like the weather is going crazy…tornados in london, sudden cold bursts in this very hot fall….
Im happy that its cold today…wearing my coat new coat when I get out. I got 2 puffers from Gap…a long and a short. The great thing about Gap is that they have tall XL so things are really long!…not so great for most of the stuff I do that involves getting into and out of the car and hauling stuff, but good if Im just going to meetings and waiting rooms….
But I must go and get my seltzer from the car before this gets any worse….
see, your pump guy agrees with me…oh man, what Ive been through with this place!
Especially since when I moved here and grandpa’s ideas of upkeep became clear (7 layers of roof, totally rotted beams, holes through oldtime plaster through powder beams up through the broken stucco…with carpenter ants everywhere animals and vines growing up through the walls to pull the place down!!) I realized that he had a space heater plugged in in the old pump house, set at some low temperature so it kicked on if it got cold, and the pump itself heaped with old pink insulation completely infused with mouse poop and half on the heater, and mice everywhere…..and if the plug got knocked out the thing would freeze!
This is what happens when a boy from bronxville buys a country place…no clue!! What a nightmare…steep learning curve for me!
that’s pretty funny about your grandfather, melina.
:yippee: H2O :yippee:
(tonight I’ll remember to keep the light and heater on)

The Good News Implied in Feingold’s Decision Not to Run
Earlier this year, when courage and clarity seemed dangerously rare among our politicians, many of us were heartened when Senator Russ Feingold stood up for the rule of law, proposing a motion to censure President Bush for his flagrant violation of both statutory law and the Constitution. Feingold quickly became a champion for many who hungered for someone in high places to speak the truth about the reckless criminality of this regime. We began to hear talk of a possible Feingold run for the presidency in 2008. And the idea had appeal to many, including me.

Possible Owner of AAR not able to afford Franken and Rhodes?

According to two sources familiar with the negotiations, Air America is in the final stages of arranging a sale to a small media company, which they declined to name. “My understanding is that everything is done except for the final touches,” says one former Air America staffer. “It’s a media companyโa very small one. I had never heard of it.”
Both sources expressed doubt that the new owner could afford to employ Air America’s two biggest namesโFranken and Randi Rhodes. “There’s the question of whether this little company has the money to keep it going,” says one source.
“There’s no way that their current contracts will continue,” says the former staffer. “And the question is, will Franken and Rhodes compromise in order to stay?”
Franken insists he’s not paying attention to the turmoilโ”I’m Zen-ing it,” he saysโand he’s focused on his upcoming USO tour. And what will he do when he returns? “Fall asleep on the couch.” And after that? “I don’t know.”

Re 75,
I am one of Feingold’s constituents and this is how I read it, too.
Feingold could not speak as plainly as he does if he were running for
President. I don’t see how he could appeal broadly and raise the
money and support a presidential run requires and still be himself.
I’d support a President Feingold but I don’t see how he can make a run without selling out – whether in the Wisconsin legislature or in the national Congress, Russ has always treated his constituents and colleagues with respect and honesty. He’d have to undergo some
kind of extreme makeover to run for president. His decision not to run seems to me to be an acknowledgement that he can do more good and best be true to himself and his constituents by concentrating on his work in the Senate. Frankly, this decision
shows how smart he is and how much he’s got his ego in check.
on his work in the Senate.
seems like Gore may also be opting for the same thing as Feingold…cant blame em really…and maybe there wll be someone who can be greatly influenced by them…and maybe they can be the mouthpiece of the heads of state who have to please a wide array of people…
Doesn’t Feingold have some baggage from his first marriage that might plague him with the possibilities of attacks from religious Reich too.:tongue:
And how many of us would miss Franken, eh?
I’m sure this will be discussed endlessly on the reich wing blogs. And maybe someone sane will mention it on some news show that isn’t Faux…maybe Olberman or even the newly and (I suspect) temporarily sane Joe Scarborough.

On another note, check out the planetary triple play or whatever on Sunday, if you can.
Well I hope you like it . Later!
PS I will try to get up to see it. Thanks.
It’s just that I don’t have a job yet. Like Painting Girl, I applied for something that I am totally capable of doing, with one hand tied behind my back, and ended up getting the short end of the stick. Really upsetting, since I typed that I was getting it here on the blog a few weeks ago. Anyway, I’m going to go take some pics of Seattle, so I’ll try and post some later. Later!.

Feingold is twice divorced now…and Jewish too. Though I haven’t heard anything ugly about either divorce or about any member of

Re Franken, I always worry about him when he goes to Iraq. Not only is that a dangerous place to visit, but opponents of the Bushes have been known to have “accidents” from time to time. As a Minnesotan (Wellstone), I suppose he knows this.

Okie, nothing really to report. So I’ll see what else I can get into. Travis take some good pix. I’ve never been out of the SE and would love to see the real Seattle!
Hey, I just realized…I forgot my recipe today. Anyone have any requests?
BTW, I’m looking for a reasonably priced mp3 player, preferably one with an FM receiver. Anyone have any suggestions? I don’t need anything big. I’m thinking 1G ought to do it.
Melina,
This motherboard will allow you to reuse all your existing hardware. I have no personal experience with DFI but generally hear good things about the brand. Unless your son is into PC gaming you can use the current video card. I would still replace the current power supply as I feel it is suspect. 400 watt minimum to allow for future upgrade. This would be your least expensive option. If you want to spend more dough, let me know.
Insert Prof. Frink emo here.

HW was crying because he has come to the realization that W is insane and is destroying whatever legacy the Bush name held up to this point. Good point Vernon Re: 145
The guy from the GAO said this morning that another two years of this war and the national indebtedness would be such that we would have to default. We would owe ourselves and our creditors more than 70 trillion dollars . :bf:
In defense of Windows: I cannot wait to get my hands on “Vista”. I want to see this new OS and run it on my Mac.
So Bush is destroying our country too? Who will rid us of this madman? (Fred RE: 152)
I think Cheney will step down ala Agnew before Bush is ever pursued for impeachment.
The guy from the GAO explained that in addition to the 10 trillion in the national debt we currently owe the Medicare and Social Security trust funds 40 trillion which the republican congress borrowed from them since RayGun.. it sounded like defaulting would mean a reduction in those programs rather than other places since they represent more than 50% of the budget. The interest payments on the this debt will be more than the 2006 federal budget if this continues . That would seem to rule out any national health care .. The thugs have created the perfect storm ..
I wonder if rethugs are good to eat.:bf:
This blog seems awful sluggish of late. Wonder if PJ needs more disc space?

As for problems with Windows. It could be that Windows XP/Vista requires better hardware than most people want to purchase or can afford. So everyone tries to skimp on hardware., buying the cheapest motherboard, video card, so on and on. And so when it crashes we wonder WHY?
Franken today sounded like he may not be coming back so he was circling the bases. Original comedy partner, original co-host, old family friend who was a guest on his first show, live from the first place he performed with Davis. Big acknowledgments for his staff.
The show will be a highlights show while he is gone run by his staff live with possible phoners from Al on his USO tour.
It sounds 50-50 that he will be back.
I think I am here for a few-ish.
CNick, only recently, many pro(ish) folk had to “run” windows and have PC’s. Only recently PC and Mac/Apple could “coalesce”. And I am a Mac Whore ( :spank:) , who lived in that “area” and dreamed to oneday have a Mac/Apple…Cuz so many ‘uper cool ๐ HAD BOTH…. and since “The Joining” now one can have it all…..Ha:!:
Sounds like from prior post of Melina that Franken and Rhodes both may bite the dust. I just hope there is something left after the storm.
Most of the Vista problems will be in the support of older hardware like video cards and sound cards.. I think it also requires a minimum of 1 geg of memory and 50 gegs of disk space.
A lot of the older computers ( like an Intel PIII 750 meg or something) can’t have that much memory on the mother board. The parts are cheap though. Hp has some desktops for under 300 dollars …I think its a conspiracy between the vendors to make people buy new stuff..They may be sadly disappointed this time around . .:bf:
Well I like Randi-, I hope she lands on her feet. Franken was going to leave anyway to run for Senate so screw him.
Druid . . . you can buy a Intel Imac for as little as $919.00. I have the 20″ first generation Intel Imac. Yup . . . early adopter. I have not been disappointed. I am craving 17″ Macbook Pro laptop.

The good thing about the new Intel Mac’s is not only the fact that they can boot Windows XP and the upcoming Vista, but they come with Ilife which includes a host of programs that make it easy as pie to create a podcast and a website. Check out iLife, iWeb and Garageband they all come with every new Mac.
The reason I want the Macbook Pro is I can take it with me to Pride in Atlanta this coming summer and broadcast with Nicecast software from Piedmont Park. All kinds of hotspots in Atlanta! And I can do a podcast while in Atlanta. And not have to wait until I return to Birmingham to do the podcast.
So I’ve come so close to buying the Macbook. I’ve resisted up to now. I feel that resistance breaking down. If I were str8 and had a wife and kids I’d be in divorce court by now! ๐

And Re 179, I can always record the live broadcast with Nicecast while at the park and upload it from the hotel later that evening to my site as a podcast.
I give up Druid! Keep your Windows box. Whatever! :slap:
I’m really hoping to get lots of interviews at Pride this coming summer. I need someone who could wag around my minidisc recording people around the park while I set up shop at one end of the park as a base. The Pride Committee allows one to set up tents in certain locations in Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta. So I should be able to get lots of interviews. Hopefully! Some of these gay guys have attitudes you wouldn’t believe! :slap: Alright bitch just talk into the mic!
There are versions of Linux for PPC MACs so a MAC that runs an Itel part should be the same as any other Intel based machine . You should be able to boot Windows, OSX and Linux on it ..Does parallels let you run Linux in parallel with OSX in other words you can switch back and forth without rebooting
Of course 183 and 184 would require that I purchase a Macbook Pro.

Linux gives me a headache though. I do not currently have a Linux virtual machine setup on my Imac. But I have had it on here. I don’t remember why I deleted the Linux VM. I may use some of my time this weekend to create it again just for the helluvit.

i disavow all knowledge of post number 194
There is not much difference between Linux and OSX at the operating system level .. You can for example run X windows under OSX .. When we were playing with MACS the OSX and Linux file systems were not compatible . I got a patch to allow Linux to read the OSX file system but never achieved the opposite operation.. Having all three in memory at the same time would requires huge amounts of memory or it swaps a mempry image to disk which makes it really slow .
You can go here to watch a live feed if the Shuttle happens to launch tomorrow night.
I’ll create a Linux VM this weekend and run them at the same time with programs running and see what happens.
I have that Christmas party to go to tomorrow afternoon. I’d just as soon skip it.

More interesting than anything on the TeeVee.
I wish I could find that letter I wrote to Bush awhile back. Let me look
ok, here is a letter I wrote way back when to bush at the whitehouse. I’m not so smart so excuse it please. N e way. also excuse the long post:
Mr. President, You say you had authority to listen in
on private telephone conversations of American
Citizens. Based on my understanding of the law you are
in error and have committed a felony offense under the
law. Thus you have disgraced the very office and the
laws your swore to uphold. When you came into office
you promised to be a “uniter, not a divider”, but
everything you have done since entering the office has
created more and more division within this land.
Anyone who disagrees with you is seen to be
unpatriotic. You used these words of division in your
news conference today when you called those you oppose
this war and seek its early end . . . “defeatists”.
You acknowledged that intelligence was faulty. Your
principal reason for going to war with Iraq was
because it was an “imminent threat” and its leader
possessed “weapons of mass destruction”. I agree there
is no easy fix to the mess you’ve made. Our standing
is diminished throughout the world, thanks to you. I
doubt you’ll ever see this letter as you have clearly
been insulated from day one from your critics. My name
will probably end up on some enemies list thanks to
this email. I’ll consider it a badge of honor. Perhaps
your thugs in the Secret Service or the FBI will do a
sneak and peek of my apartment. Of course, I’ll never
know. Its “Big Brother” in America, the end of
liberty, the beginning of the fascist states of
America. Geo W. Bush has all the proper answers and
anyone in opposition is the enemy. Right? Is this not
what you think, you and your cronies? I wonder if
Bill Clinton had made an end run around the court what
the Republican Majority would have done to him? You’re
a lucky man (Mr. Bush) that you are surrounded by a
government ruled by your own party. Absolute power
corrupts absolutely. If I’ve quoted this wrong I’m
sure you’ll excuse me since you seem to suffer from
the same affliction. Ha Ha. It is ironic that you are
destroying the very liberties that you claim to be
protecting. Perhaps to much pot smoking and cocaine
use in your early adult life has short circuited your
brain? Or maybe its just that you’ve got away with
every nasty thing you’ve ever done to those less
fortunate. Just repeat certain “keywords” to the
masses, your base and they’ll follow you to hell. I
hope Karl Rove is indicted and you’re ignorant war
mongering friends, VP Dick Chaney and Defense
Secretary Rumsfeld go down with all the other corrupt
officials of your Republican party. You should all be
indicted. You for thinking you possess extra ordinary
powers. I guess I shouldn’t expect more from a man who
did everything he could to stay out of combat during
the Vietnam war. Your granddaddy and you dad protected
you unlike those unlucky enough to serve in the
military under you and your draft dodging friends. It
makes me sick to see how you use our military as a
backdrop for your blonder during repeated trips to
military bases in hopes of improving your poll numbers.
We’re not all stupid out here. I hope you get whats
coming to you and this nation wakes up to your
criminal behavior and removes you or forces your
resignation. You deserve nothing better. And to
whoever reads this – thank you for allowing me to
vent. I’m not a threat to anyone. I just want our
country to be a beacon for freedom. Not for facists
run a muck and religious fanaticism. P.S. Merry
Christmas

Rep. McKinney’s parting shot: Bill to impeach Bush
WASHINGTON (AP) — In what was likely her final legislative act in Congress, outgoing Georgia Rep. Cynthia McKinney announced a bill Friday to impeach President Bush.
The legislation has no chance of passing and serves as a symbolic parting shot not only at Bush but also at Democratic leaders. Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, has made clear that she will not entertain proposals to sanction Bush and has warned the liberal wing of her party against making political hay of impeachment.
McKinney, a Democrat who drew national headlines in March when she struck a Capitol police officer, has long said that Bush was never legitimately elected. In introducing her legislation in the final hours of the current Congress, she said Bush had violated his oath of office to defend the Constitution and the nation’s laws.

I guess Peter is SOL tonight. It is to COLD to get out. This southerner is not used to this kind of cold. This stuff is supposed to stay up in the NE or maybe the North pole?
Yeah, the Free Radicals. A militant biochemists’ group.
Yeah, it’s only 25 here, though it was 12 when I got up. We got some snow, but missed out on the heavy stuff. With Lake Effect, it’s all a matter of how the wind blows. Still, I shoveled the driveway for the first time this season. I rather enjoy it – especially while listening to “Suspense.”
Low tonight in Bham is supposed to drop to 20. We are well on our way.
Must be freakin’ people out down there. 20 is downright balmy for a low in December here, but not down your way.
I meant to say something this morning but didn’t have time. I hope John doesn’t rest in peace but comes back here to Earth to help us! :fire:
And Farmerkat’s pipes froze, even! I would say that that happens after a certain age, but of course I am not that crude.
“Imagine” is my favorite John Lennon song.
The complex posted signs “Freeze warning” and warned tenants to let the water drip. I don’t let it get that cold here in the apartment. I guess the Gas bill will just have to be high. I refuse to freeze.
Yeah, had I not been so busy, I’d have not forgotten this morning. I was just 20 then, in school at Oswego. It was a Monday night, and some of the guys were watching Monday Night Football, but I was listening to a Rochester radio station (which came in well, down Lake Ontario), when they announced first he’d been shot, and then he had died. I went down and told the guys in the lounge, and a moment or two later, Howard Cosell announced it to the MNF audience. I was stunned for days.
28 degrees! maybe you’ll get some snow Nick.
He had just released Double Fantasy (OK, Yokos songs sucked, but his were great), and he had another two albums planned out. He was back. Such a shame. He was only 40. Younger than I am now. Just too damn bad.

Yeah, John Lennon’s death was a shock to me even though I had never paid much attention to The Beatles or him for that matter up to that point. But his new album was climbing the charts and I liked it. I really am not sure why it hit me so hard but it felt like something had gone terribly wrong in the Universe when he was murdered. ๐ฅ

Wonder if Travis got those pix of Seattle? Where are you Travis?
About a year or two before he was killed, John came to channel 6 here in Philly to do an interview with Larry Kane (John was also doing a charity fundriaser for WFIL 56 AM). Kane had travelled with the Beatles during a US tour around ’63? Anyway the interview was great, but he stayed and wound up doing the weather report as well. It was hilarious! Some time later some moron at the station recorded over the whole thing – lost forever.
Great story Andy. Did the guy keep his job after that f up?
It wasn’t long after that I went through my own little Beatlemania phase. At first I checked out all the Beatles records from the library. And then one of the radio stations was doing an all Beatles weekend and I stayed inside and taped everything. I used to hang out at the bookstore at the mall in the music section which was way in the back corner and I think I read all of their Beatles books right there on the floor. I got my best friend into them too and we would play The Beatles and dance around her house when her mean ole mother wasn’t there. I wasn’t supposed to be there.
It amazes me that I still know all the lyrics to all the Beatles’ songs. I can’t remember where I left the fucking remote, but I know all the words to “Hey Bulldog.”
The station was trying to save money, it wasn’t an accident. At least according to Larry Kane.
You know why I know all lyrics to Beatles songs is cuz I sat down and went through all the cassette tapes I had taped of The Beatlemania weekend and wrote out all the lyrics.:bow:
I did that with American Pie too, so I still know all the lyrics to that one.

I don’t think so.
So, this one most certainly has leftist global warming overtones. They go into a big chorus of Snow is good or some such nonsense. I only applied them to the original Frosty in joking but it’s in this one for real!
Nick, why dont you do the live show on Sunday?
Andy, thanks for 119…I was just copying it to notepad…what if I want a better video card?…Will does do gaming and supposedly this computer has a good video card…?
But you can have a phone number on skype to give out to people…and you can call land lines for a penny a min…I got a coupon for 1.50 or something…I am now an account holder of skype credit….
Is a motherboard really that cheap?
Shouldnt it cost more?
Which hard drive do you suggest?
Which video card?
which power supply….should I just try for the same ones?
You can upgrade to a better agp card. I have an EVGA 7800GS CO. Very fast but still AGP so you don’t have do a Major upgrade. Kind of pricey though. about 300+
can one really buy an intel mac and have it run all windows programs and act like a PC but still exhibit the supposed stability of the Mac?
Well with this MB you can use everything you have. It’s similar to what you have now. As for power supplies any 400 watt unit from Enermax, Antec, Sparkle. All decent. If you curent HD is close to full just add another.

I just want you to soothe lil Lion. I am from The City and LALALAND and I saved a 5 year old , when I was 5, from a 3rd grade bully. At 5 I stood between and I directed the whole event, telling one lil girl to get the teacher, and I told the 3rd grader he would have to go through me and not ever will he hit a “kindegarner” (sp) again.
In otherwords, I can be a bit gregarious :omg::rofl2: :dancers:
