Dem Sen. Tim Johnson undergoes surgery
The Associated Press is reporting that Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) “did not suffer a stroke or heart attack, contrary to initial reports.” Political Wire’s “Insider” blog additionally reported that Johnson “is speaking and is expected to be fine.”
However, a late report at CBS notes the following:
Johnson underwent surgery late Wednesday. There has been no word on the nature of the surgery, which lasted past midnight, or on Johnson’s condition.
Sources close to the situation, speaking before the surgery was made public, tell CBS News the situation is definitely not good.

All of the MSM newscasts last night were speculating on the possibility of the Senate going back under Repig control if Johnson falls into such ill health that he has to resign. Timmy Kartoffelkopf was practically drooling. Nice.
So much for “liberal” media.

Economic Report: Job Creation In Five year Recovery Worst Ever
Economic Report
By Jesse Russell
Employment data through the first five years of the recovery, in comparison with four other recoveries of this length, shows job growth this time around to be the slowest on record. The Economic Policy Institute crunched the numbers and and found that payrolls in both the private and public sector are down. The slow growth means it will take longer for working families to see gains.

Severe space storm headed for Earth
Satellites and power grids could face potential interruptions
Space weather forecasters revised their predictions for storminess after a major solar flare erupted overnight, threatening damage to communication systems and power grids.
“We’re looking for very strong, severe geomagnetic storming” to begin probably around midday Thursday, Joe Kunches, lead forecaster at the NOAA Space Environment Center, told Space.com Wednesday afternoon.
The storm is expected to generate aurorae or northern lights as far south as the northern United States on Thursday night. Astronauts aboard the international space station are not expected to be put at additional risk, Kunches said.

The worst Christmas specials and TV movies ever
Christmas Comes to Pac-Land
This 1982 cartoon special starring Pac-Man and his family was a crass attempt to cash in on the video-game craze. It was named the second worst holiday programming ever, after the Star Wars fiasco, in Television Without Pity’s 752 Things We Love to Hate (and Hate to Love) About TV. “This holiday special’s across-the-board suckitude remains seared into our memories like a brand,” the authors wrote. Trying to capitalize on Pac-Man fever is one thing, they noted, but not when the poorly animated characters look nothing like the original. “How hard is it to animate a circle with a pie piece cut out of it?”
snip
‘The Star Wars Holiday Special’
If you thought Jar Jar Binks was bad, check out this 1978 CBS holiday special spinoff of the original Star Wars film. Better yet, don’t. “This is some of the most painful television ever created,” said a review on the Web site, Oh, the Humanity! Most notable for introducing the cult character Boba Fett, this special featured the film’s cast, plus such guest stars as Harvey Korman and Bea Arthur. Carrie Fisher, deep into her hard-partying days, sang a “Life Day” carol based on the Star Wars theme. “If this isn’t an argument for getting people off drugs, I don’t know what is,” the reviewer wrote. Bootleg clips can be found online at YouTube.com.

No Response is needed, please. :knit: :gate: Great Works, Great Time
Not much needs to be done with this site, really. It isn’t about me, it’s about everybody else who comes and contributes. This isn’t so much of a blog as it is a community. As for school, my method seems to be to procrastinate as much as possible while being totally uninspired, and then allowing deadlines to force me into action. There is virtually no creativity required for most of it, unless you consider having no idea what it you’re supposed to do, but doing something anyway, to be creative. At this point, it’s just doing it to get it over with, not because I particularly enjoy or am interested in it – or even feel that it’s doing me any good. I guess I just figure that, after having been a college dropout for so many years, it might be nice to be able to say I have a Masters. It sounds pretty good, if you don’t know any better. Maybe I’ll go to Law School next. I have a friend who teaches there, so maybe I can see about getting a free ride. Or maybe a masters in International Relations. Another friend runs the graduate program there. Has to be free, though, and I don’t know if I can keep up with all that reading.

Male seals are reaping the benefits of climate change by having more sex, scientists have discovered.
Subordinate grey seals are taking advantage of rising temperatures and falling rainfall to mate more often.
Due to climate change female grey seals are being forced to travel further for drinking water – removing them from the watchful eye of the dominant males and allowing the subordinate males to take advantage.

Hello everyone,
So I’m finally able to locate my podcasts by running a search in the Apple iTunes Store. But for some damn dumb reason the numbering system of the podcasts is not correct! And one of the podcasts inexplicably disappeared from iTunes. ๐ Maybe this will all just magically correct itself so I don’t have to worry about it anymore cause I’ve got a headache. ๐ On a positive note my new HD Camcorder arrived this afternoon. But you have to charge the battery before using it. It’s still charging! ๐ I doubt I’ll have time to play with it tonight. Prolly just skim over the instruction manual. I’m excited about this new camcorder and plan on uploading a video podcast to my podcast page this weekend. Perhaps even tomorrow night if I can figure it all out and there are no more clitches. I’ve been sending positive vibes out Senator Johnson’s way! We just cannot afford to lose the Senate. Someone have a backup plan? Ok, well my newest podcast is up. A short one. Go here to listen to or download. Later.

Here we go, folks-
I have been told that I will be appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday Dec. 19th. If that changes I will let you know. We know what happened last time.
Since I will be in NYC I will be guest hosting Sam Seder’s show for the week from the Air America Radio headquarters. I haven’t been there since they sent me away. I’m looking forward to it. Jim Earl will not be joining me in NYC. Maybe we’ll call him at home. PW McDonald, Bruce Cherry, Pashman, Lawton, Jeff DiCarlo, Svetlana, David Poland, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Reich, Army. Lt. Ronnie Rudolph and more are scheduled so far.
ALSO, the brand spanking new http://www.marcmaron.com is up a mostly there. Check it out.

Woah PJ!! There’s a link to Seditionist Radio on Maron’s new site!
Farmerkat, but when I said he too could have success anywhere, but staying with AAR he could be like a “god” and run everything. Many on AAR site could not here that then – He left, was a success (although he is a bit pensive) as you know re his feelings. He was “pissed” but then he heard they just couldn’t (now) afford him. But you know his “heart”. When he heard what came down, he was “there to help” Sam and AAR (probably after Goldie left). (I hope this is not a dream.)
Cuz he, like SOME, are “all that and then some.”

Ah, reminds me of Claude Bolling. Got to see him with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Alexandre Lagoya from about the second row once. Outstanding. Guy Pedersen played a fretless double bass.

Jean-Pierre Rampal
long ago, my brother had given me boxed sets of his ALBUMS and my college roommate (who was overweight so for some reason ate red jello all the time while keeping the kitchen covered in red sticky goo) STOLE them. I’m still mad about that.
Hey, anybody who wants to play with a software pbx, this is free:
http://www.3cx.com/
I’ll have to play with it when I get a chance.
Yeah he’s no Ian Anderson, but still…. Lagoya was pretty impressive. I’d never seen classical guitar played in person before, and being so close was truly amazing. But Guy Pedersen, man. I’ll never forget that huge bass and the way his fingers flew on it. Had a rag stuffed into the bottom, too. Got to see Ron Carter up close at the gazebo at the Jazzfest at SPAC one year, too, and he was pretty darned amazing himself.

PJ- I didn’t know you were a jazz fan. If you ever get a chance to see Dave Holland live….go! He’s got a small group and a big band. Either one is great. He’s played with everyone- Miles, Chick Corea…
Many years ago he was with Stan Getz. I was in a band with Getz’s son, Steve. We opened for Stan and we got to hang out. He was such a nice mellow buddhist guy. I think he’s the best bass player around.
howdy doo everyone…what a long day but I think Im finally sort of on top of things…and just exhausted….but have alot to do still….
Im so happy that Marc is coming east for this week though sad that I wont be around for it…not that he does much when he is doing the radio machine thing……but maybe he will book some weekend gigs round x-mas….
Any word on his other supposed fill in slot thing? Maybe the guy meant an different week?
I dont know if anyone has brought this up because IM behind in reading here, but Ive been wondering why Sam would suddenly go on vacation unless he has to do his vacation days before the end of the year, or he has to use them now or lose them forever….
The holiday starts next Friday, so I would think that he would take the following week off….
Im so happy to have Marc on but I have a nagging fear about Sam’s contract. I hope they dont screw him.
At the same time, its clear that Marc is in good standing with this new management situation…and they are flying him here (or letterman is anyway) and he is assembling the crew….for the anniversary of the last day….
No Riley I hope!!…very doubtful….
PJ did you finish, or is tomorrow night the deadline?
I actually took some advanced class run by Jean Pierre Rampal when I was a kid and played classical flute….he is fantastic.
PJ, remember that Doug went from RN to Lawyer and he really hated it….the corporate thing was not for him and full of very young people. Now that he is working with the archdioses he loves it, but not making much $$ as an in house lawyer for the catholics….
Are you really considering law school?
