Damn, the Democrats have been in charge for almost a whole day now, and the haven’t fixed everything that the Republicans have managed to fuck up over the last six years. I knew it I knew it, I knew it. They suck. The sky is falling. It’s all terrible. One more thing I’ll have to straighten out when I’m in DC next week, I guess.

A teacher was fired for setting a fire in her classroom. Neither the teacher nor the students were IN the room when the fire started but the adminstration accused her of having lit a cigaret and then put it in her pocketbook where it smoldered and started the blaze. The teacher said the allegation was as absurd as it was untrue but was told that if she fought she woud lose her license as well as her job.

A SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY continues for Denver through 6pm today. Most areas can expect 3-8 inches of total snow accumulation before the snow tapers off by this evening. Foothill locations will get hit hard again with totals around 9-16 inches. Areas south of Denver along the Palmer Divide including Castle Rock and Kiowa can expect 5-10 inches. Northerly winds between 15-25 mph will cause blowing and drifting snow especially east of Denver. Expect slow travel this morning with icy and snow packed roads.

The winter weather in Colorado is usually sunny with highs in the 40s and 50s.. If this snow keeps up we will start having glaciation on the northern facing slopes in the city .. :yuck::eek::eek::crap::reaper::reaper:
The bulk of our snow generally comes between now and the end of the season. Ordinarily, we have about 40 inches of snow at this point – this year, a paltry 12 – and we get another 75 or so. At this point, we’re gonna lost our Golden Snowball award (not sure if they considered the way a snowball normally gets a golden color before they named that one).

Any other suggestions that don’t involve massive lawsuits? Someone I work with suggested Limewire- they’ve had a pending lawsuit since 2004 from RIAA but they countersued late last year.

I think Mrs. Art is kind of scared of the blog. She’s still trying to decide whether to go to work. Her little Civic couldn’t make it out of the driveway. My neighbors car couldn’t back out into the street without piling up snow blocking it from going further.

Hi, no, I didn’t see that. I haven’t purchased anything from them – if I was going to, I guess I would go with Click & Buy to buy a gift certificate and buy that way. I don’t quite trust giving a CC# to them. Once you download the mp3, though, I don’t see as you’re vulnerable to a lawsuit (assuming you don’t then share the file). But, whereas I’m not a lawyer, what do I know?
Limewire, Bearshare, all that – you’re sharing files and that’s not legal, and the RIAA is rather Gestapo-like, so I don’t do that. Ditto with bittorrent. They’re more after the heavy sharers, but you never know if they’ll jump on you or not. And it’s just safer and easier to buy it legally.
So, I reckon you could check out Yahoo or eMusic, or something like that. I don’t know how the selection is. Rhapsody has a pretty good selection, and their tracks are 89 cents to buy. I haven’t bought anything from them, personally, but AFAIK, the mp3’s you buy aren’t DRM crippled. If you subscribe to their service, you can either stream their stuff (Internet connection required, obviously), or you can download stuff locally and play it back when you’re not connected. That content is DRM protected, and you can only play it back if your subscription is current. I don’t have a problem with that type of DRM, personally, because I think it’s fair. I just feel that if I pay to own it, I should then be able to do whatever I want with it, so long as it abides by traditional fair use concepts. The allofmymp3 thing appeals to me because it lets you choose different bitrates and encoding. But, as I say, I’m a bit leery of it.
Wikipedia has quite a lot of information about it. RIAA has a 1.35 TRILLION lawsuit against them. There’s talk of keeping Russia out of the WTO over it. Visa and MC have stopped allowing payments to clickandbuy. And people have had their email addresses copied and are receiving a ton of porn/spam.
Allmp3.com has only been declared legal by a russian court- it doesn’t sound like anyone else in the world recognizes it as being legal. They say they’re making payments directly to the artists but that appears to be BS- no one has received a dime.
Ah, well, that’s too bad. Though I’d take anything in wikipedia with a grain of salt. Every time I find something that’s wrong in there that I actually know about and make a change, it gets changed back to the wrong information almost immediately.
It’s quite an extensive piece- I don’t think it all could have been made-up.
I looked into Rhapsody- does it only download to one of their mps3 players? I’ve just got the new nano and I’m not going to put out anymore $ for something else.
If I remember right eMusic is a good deal but they don’t have any new music. Maybe it’s just all the snow that’s got me feeling so negative about this today.

The Sammy cam is kind of slow during the breaks.
Rhapsody works on your computer, though they have a “to go” option. But that’s only for listening to subscription stuff off-line. When you buy stuff (again, I’d double check), it’s mp3. mp3’s play on anything that mp3’s play on. So, as long as it remains OK with Apple that you listen to mp3’s on your iPod, then you can stil listen. You couldn’t download subsciption stuff from Rhapsody to listen to offline, though, ‘cuz the device has to supprt the DRM crap that they use (which is helix, based on some godawful wma crap), which isn’t currently compatible with a whol lot of players (more all the time, though). That’s why there ought to be a standard, if we’re gonna get stuck with it.
