So, does big Al finally get to go to Congress and straighten everything out today? I certainly hope so, though I really won’t be able to (or at least shouldn’t) pay attention, since I have way too much shit to do. Sounds like Harry Reid has taken about all the crap he intends to take from our petulant little boy king, too. Well, good for you Harry. Even if I don’t always like where he stands on some things, he at least seems to have a bit of a spine. The liberal media is gonna crucify him, so let’s hope we the people stand up and support him.
Gosh, this weather tires everybody out, apparently. :sammy:

Maybe the prospect of Gonzo’s head exploding today from trying to explain all those contradictions, like one of those psyborgs in the old Star Trek, will cheer everybody up. “But if everything i say is a lie, then i’m lying about lying, but then i must be telling the truth, but i can’t tell the truth because everything i say is a lie, but.. wait” [kabloom]. :sammy:

Senate Republicans blocked legislation yesterday that would have allowed the federal government to negotiate Medicare drug prices, denying Democrats a victory on their 2006 election vow to lower prescription costs for senior citizens.
“We’ll have plenty of additional chances,” said Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), a supporter of the bill. “This is not the end of the debate.” Democrats needed a 60-vote majority to start debate on the measure, but lost 55 to 42.

I love the XM Radio channel called Soul Street. It plays really deep soul cuts, with a lot of Chicago stuff thrown in. Listen to this cut by the Chi-Lites called Are You My Woman.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/oldies-the-chi-lites-are-you-my-woman-mp3.html
Does anybody recognize the intro to this song as bumper music on Morning Sedition?
Although Soul Street plays pretty obscure stuff, there is enough of a rotation that you will hear stuff over again. My favorite song in rotation is Lamont Dozier’s “Fish Ain’t Biting” from the early 1970’s. The lyrics have a weird edge, showing a guy getting pretty depressed about his economic standing, which conflicts against the snappiness of the tune. He also takes jabs against the war and Nixon.

Hey, that was Brian calling in to Stephanie Miller!
Will conservatives support our troops when they mutiny?
Disobeying commands that would result in certain slaughter has already taken place.
One such incident happened in Ramadi. A squad from the Second Battalion, Fifth Marines was asked to duplicate a mission performed by another Marine squad that had been completely wiped out — to take the same path, invite fire, and hopefully expose Iraqi insurgents to cover fire. Fearful of a second massacre, the chosen squad, to a man, refused to move out. At the last minute, an alternate mission was authorized, thereby avoiding possibly violent insubordination.
Hey PJ, Yeah, Brian calls into Miller semi-regularly, I heard him a couple of months ago.

Leahy is doing OK. Hatch is a hack, but a truly loyal bushie.
I was wrong yesterday about my guess that this Thornhill [the boyfriend] might be black – still makes no sense why the cops got so excited about him that they decided not to lock down the campus while the real killer ran amock. I did say it was a guess.
Here’s another guess: Gonzo is gone-zo by saturday at the latest. Then the White House can pretend that this worthless whining tool was the real problem, instead of the malignant tumor we call Karl Rove. :sammy:
Gonzo is a rather inarticulate, intellectually-challenged yes man. He should’ve stuck with the Texas Supreme Court. Make you kind of glad that the Bushies are so ignorant and incompetent. They’ve just about destroyed our country as it is. Imagine the damage they could’ve done if they weren’t so friggin’ stupid.
Math formula for the SAT:
“I am not a crook” is to The Nixon Years as
“Brownie you’re doing a heckava job” is to the GW Bush Years.
Its government by Brownie. This schmuck is AG? All the Senators who voted to confirm him should kiss my ass. :sammy:
I dunno, I’ve watched enough Law & Order and NYPD Blue to know they always go for the boyfriend (or husband) first. What was the deal, anyway? I’ve been trying to mostly ignore it (not easy to do), but from what I gather, they got a call at like 7:00 that there were two people dead in the dorm, and Cho didn’t start shooting again until like 9:00. So, I suppose they figured the first two were all there was gonna be.
Ooh. Tell us what you really think, Chuck!

Well the rent a cops and Barney Fifes got all excited supposedly that Thornhill [wasn’t that Cary Grant’s name in North by Northwest, and we know he was innocent] took the girls to the shooting range. In Southern virginia, owning a gun and taking it to the range is an unusual characteristic? He must have flipped off the cops, or maybe he has some sort of record. Or maybe they’re “Brownie” Cops. :sammy:

DITTO ❗ … :fustrate: :paranoid: :fustrate:
Well, that bill was signed into law in 2003, not recently. And, yeah, it’s surprising that he voted for it. The real concern isn’t so much the standard “right to choose” meme, but the fact that there are some 30 years of precedent that says any abortion restrictions have to have a provision that includes the health of the mother. Frankly, I think people voted for it believing that SCOTUS would slap it down. That was one Alito ago, though.
And giving the father and/or grandparents the right to sue is really weird, too.
cresttwo, re # 65 and Thornhill, I was dealing with other deaths :reaper: ,,, any further info?
I might be mixing issues.
I heard yesterday that as of now no longer D.E. (i think) but now has to be by “inducing labour”. Then to have many women and men calling (AAR or NovaM — it was either Thom’s or Jeff F.’s) talk-shows about how this procedure was the ONLY WAY to cause the life and safety for the mother … and peace for the grieving parents of a “terminally ill child — in the womb”. One recent occurrence was a child born living without a skull. Thankfully, the father said, the child died within a day.
It was Thom’s Show … :rofl2: he was the only one that was able to repeat saying the procedure to the callers, that could not state correctly… Come now PJ, I know you can probably say it “trippingly over the tongue” 😉 … :rofl2:
Yesterday, the Supreme Court upheld the ban on so-called partial birth abortions (the medical term is “intact dilation and extraction” – an alternative to dilation and evacuation). Intrauterine Cranial Decompression is another term. These are done in the second trimester, but are fairly rare. I believe this procedure requires less instrumentation, and is preferable in certain cases. For instance, since an incision is made at the base of the skull of the fetus with the head still inside, and a suction catheter is then inserted to suck out the brain tissue, causing the skull to collapse, it allows the fetus to pass more easily through the birth canal. This is less stressful to the woman than having to pass the head.
The reasoning used by the majority on the court was that this didn’t limit the right to have an abortion, just one specific procedure. There are others that can be used in the second trimester.
Apart from it perhaps signaling the willingness of the Bush Court (or perhaps Nader Court would be a more appropriate term) to take on Roe, it also doesn’t have a provision allowing the procedure “to preserve the health” of the woman.
I believe it does have an allowance if it’s necessary to “save the life” of the woman, though.
Thanks PJ …Intrauterine Cranial Decompression — D. & E. (aka) and thanks to you for the &. I knew you would know, and it probably was not even being married to RAGING Granny 😉 I was not following except, to VOTE PROPER and sign petitions…

Imported ingredients used in recalled pet food may have been intentionally spiked with an industrial chemical to boost their apparent protein content, federal officials said Thursday.
That’s one theory being pursued by the Food and Drug Administration as it investigates how the chemical, melamine, contaminated at least two ingredients used to make more than 100 brands of dog and cat foods.
So far, melamine’s been found in both wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate imported from China. Media reports from South Africa suggest a third pet food ingredient, corn gluten, used in that country also was contaminated with melamine. That tainted ingredient has not been found in the United States, the FDA said.

For six years, the Bush administration, aided by Justice Department political appointees, has pursued an aggressive legal effort to restrict voter turnout in key battleground states in ways that favor Republican political candidates.
The administration intensified its efforts last year as President Bush’s popularity and Republican support eroded heading into a midterm battle for control of Congress, which the Democrats won.
Facing nationwide voter registration drives by Democratic-leaning groups, the administration alleged widespread election fraud and endorsed proposals for tougher state and federal voter identification laws. Presidential political adviser Karl Rove alluded to the strategy in April 2006 when he railed about voter fraud in a speech to the Republican National Lawyers Association.

Climate change skeptics say it\’s hard to get heard
BRUSSELS (Reuters) – skeptics of the seriousness of global warming complained on Wednesday of not being heard by the public or policy makers while warning governments to take a second look at the scientific consensus on climate change.
Scientists who doubt the scope and cause of climate change have trouble getting funding and academic posts unless they conform to an \”alarmist scenario,\” said Roger Helmer, a British member of the European Parliament, at a panel discussion on appropriate responses to rising global temperatures.
\”If global warming is happening, we can then ask: is it accelerating and is it likely to be catastrophic?\” he said. \”Many people think not.\”
