Well, I have to figure out whether I want to take the walk this weekend or not. My first inclination is to blow it off, of course. I wouldn’t bother with the commencement on Sunday anyway (though I wouldn’t mind hearing the speaker, Frank McCourt), but the convocation on Saturday would give me a chance to say goodbye to the folks I’ve gone through this with over the last couple of years.
Unfortunately, after something like $31,000 in tuition (never mind that it was the Feds that paid for it), if I want to attend the convocation ceremonies, I have to pay $60 to rent (rent, mind you; I don’t even get to keep it, not that I have a use for it) a cap, gown, and master’s hood. Oy. It’s not the money so much as it is the principle of the thing.
That and having to parade around in a goofy looking dress with a pizza box on my head.
cap, gown, hood and scowl…priceless!
For the life of me, I can’t remember who gave the commencement speech at my college graduation. All I remember is that they gave honorary degrees to several non-entities, including Peggy Cass. [If you’re less than 40, you have no idea who the f**k she is/was].What a dopey time it was. :sammy:

An auditorium full of people standing around waiting for something to happen, a boring speech, and then a parade of people you barely know waving to the audience? Sounds like a political convention.
But seriously, go. And write a personal statement on top of your flat hat. I didn’t go to mine, and now I kinda wish I had. At least I might have had one last shot at Debbie Abbott. :hubba:
PJ, Ya did the Deed, go do The Walk  … don’t ya get to keep your cap? Someone will want to take your goofy pixs.
RAGING  or whomever :peace:
Yeah, after all that angst you gotta go. You’re way ahead of the game with McCourt – Think of all the appalling alternatives….. :sammy:
Yeah, McCourt would be OK (being an Irishman, I’m sure he’ll give a good speech). But I’m definitely not going to the commencement on Sunday. That’s just a big dog and pony show at the Dome with all the undergrads and grads from SU and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. If I go to anything, it’ll be the convocation for the School of Information Studies, which is just the undergads from that school and the three masters programs (and maybe a PhD person or two, if there’s anybody). Much smaller, and less bullshit.
BREAKING: Conservative Dems expected to vote with GOP to give Bush unfettered blank check on Iraq tomorrow
PJ, take the walk. Post the pictures.
Good morning guys….so tired today.
I stayed up and watched the rest of fast food nation last night…What in incredible ending…has anyone seen it? It shows the industrial slaughter in grotesque reality….I dont even know if I can eat meat, even if its humane now….

When I was in my 3rd and final year of college (I never finished 🙄 ) I was located in wonderful Charlottesville, VA where they delivered the Washington Post daily. In the summer when I went to find a place to live I first read about a petty burglary at the Watergate in the WaPo. We would get up early to check out the next development in the erupting scandal and revel, not that we needed an excuse. I moved to the West Coast before all was done but many had picked up the scent by then. I am saddened by what the Post and many papers have become but as the Rutles once put it, “i’m living in hope” some folks might grow a spine when they smell some blood in the water.
Meanwhile today the Brit LapDog steps aside and Gonzo is slated to go amnesiac once again.
Good Morning :joe:
I am sort of enjoying scarborough in the moring on MSNBC. I think its a much better use of him than his evening show, which is just so-so….but then, Im desperate…
I cant get over the end of that movie…just cant get over it…it was so horrible…and matter of fact. I guess thats the way it is.
Morning / Evening :yinyang:
pj- take the walk, leave no regrets.
I felt the same way about my graduation from ASU. I wanted no part of it but I had to do it for my mom. High school graduation is more fun anyways because you can still get away with pranks. 8)
Funerals aren’t for the dead, they are for the living.
pj, who is your graduation for?
pj, I would do it but I am a glutton for :spank: . You (is this a female :sheep: ?) earned it for better or wurst. Notice that A-man always wants the pictures?
Actually, I was just drifting back in to say that I hope the resucks maybe don’t get it that Iraq is not the whole problem. Maybe they will fool themselves to think if they ‘resolve’ that issue things like their total rape of this nation and the looming disasters we face will go unnoticed.
Presto, change-o. Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat!
Yes,Kp , what will sauter wear under the rented robe.? His pj’s? I don’t suggest commando, rented and all.
Maybe he can tape some Gilbert and Sullivan stripes on the sleeves. Then he can Syrecuse himself if necessary.
Sorry :fustrate:
I wouldn’t pass up a chance to see Frank McCourt. I don’t think anyone of any sifnificance spoke at my graduation.
Well Spoken King Kong :yinyang: :bee: Cool 8) 😉

I really just want to see the people I went through this with, and say goodbye. When I finally got the undergrad degree, I’d finished up the last 60’ish credit hours part time, so I never really got to know anybody very well (they were going through at 15 hours a semester, and I was doing 12 a year). Plus, they were young and I was old. But I did this one full time, and actually feel as if I’m part of the class. Plus, this is about it for me. My wife has standing orders: if I ever start talking about going to school again, she has to shoot me.
Big Love starts again on June 11th, but they’ve been re-running it.
Bill Clinton was the speaker a couple years back – in 2003. He gave an excellent speech. Of course. Say what you want about the man, but he sure can speak. Last year was Billy Joel (he’d just given a shitload of money to establish a fellowship, though I’m sure that had nothing to do with it 🙄 ). My undergrad year, it was Jane Goodall.
8) PJ , jealous, especially regarding Jane Goodall WOW
I had someone great like ahhhh ahhh whoever ????????? = ZERO
maybe a doctor from a dept 🙄
 a.i.v.
My high school graduation was interminably boring. We were the first class not to have it at the school, opting for the county Civic Center instead. It was OK until the girl that gave the speech got up and went on and on and on…. Oy.
Then – exactly 20 years later – my stepdaughter graduated from the the same school I went to, in the same building, with the same accoutrement (red for the boys, white for the girls, the same ram over the stage – we were the “Red Rams”). Now that was weird.
Thanks, Druid. It’s not my original, but it has worked for me many times.
OK, here’s what I need to get.
I was back in VA last May just about now and was able to attend my niece’s graduation at Va Wesleyan. It is not what I do but it was a great time. I’m pretty jaded but I loved the enthusiasm and joy. And, pj, you might get some fun from being the oldest boy in the room.
re 19 Vernon, Sorry, can’t help it :rofl2: 😆 :rofl2: “his pj’s” :rofl2: …

Hey, the US Treasury is going after Michael Moore for breaking the cuba embargo. I guess they figure Fat Mike doesn’t have enough money, and his movie badly needs publicity. What a bunch of dimwits. :sammy:

hey…was it krista who posted a link to organic dog food?
I am looking for a kibble, at least, in which the animals used were raised humanely and fed only american grown grain….ha ha ha ha …..I was just in the pet food emporium and good luck finding anything not from china or with free range animals…even the organics don’t say about where the meat really comes from. the focus is on the grain.
maybe it was on B@B in the comments section back in the beginning if the melamine problem.
ok I’m going home to try to catch some hearings…..maybe I’m too late?
They’re still on Melina.
And the Repug’s are still apologising for him
My mom used to give money to all kinds of animal causes and her mail would contain pictures of horrible cruelty which, like a tune that gets stuck in your head, would intrude and intrude into my consciousness. I can’t eat animals anymore but I’m working hard at not becoming a pest around people who do.
I have made an exception for poor hubby, to whom I just gotta say something when he orders meat. Poor man is learning to like veggies.
I know how you feel, Melina.
Giuliani’s consulting firm represented a drug company that made Oxycontin and just pled guilty to charges that it mislead doctors and pharmacists when it didn’t divulge the stuff was very addictive. Guiliani met with ol’ Asa Hutchinson, when Asa was head of DEA, investigating the drug company. After the meeting the pace of the investigation was slowed by Asa’s interference.

Bad news: “Back To Black” drops back (wasn’t that a Dr. Seuss book?) from 11-14 on the Billboard album chart. (This piece-of-shit PC I’m using won’t let me post a link to Billboard.com, but you can go look there if you want.)
Good news: Six new albums debuted in the top 10, so Amy falling only three positions can be seen as actually hanging kinda tough. Sales are remaining steady.
Even better news: Speaking of steady sales, the RIAA has certified “Back To Black” gold in the US.
It’s official: America LOVES Amy Winehouse!

Apparently retail sales in general were very bad leading to an almost 150 point drop in the crap shoot. They blamed it on the weather ❓ ❓
Ah, it’s Syracuse. There’s a lot less to run into here.
BOULDER – Police have finished a third search of Boulder High School and released the school to the district after an employee saw two people in camouflage inside the school Thursday morning, prompting the school’s closure.
At a 2 p.m. news conference, Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner says the room-by-room search of the school did not find anyone hiding inside. The third search ended around 3:30 p.m., with investigators going through the school with staff members who are familiar with it, to make sure there was nothing out of the ordinary.
Authorities say a cafeteria worker arrived at the school Thursday around 6 a.m. and saw two men inside wearing camouflage. One had a ski mask. Beckner says it was a credible sighting.

What movie was that?
It turns out that the pet food that is the most organic, correct and cruelty free is…get this…Paul Newman’s, Newman’s own….
See these companies will say that their product is organice and whatever but not how they are raised….I want cruelty free, us grain fed….
I had to run out because my friend and her son found a couple of finch eggs in their garage…cracked and one with a live tiny baby hatching. One is alive and in the incubator at the bird store but I think it will surely die but at least it will be warm when it does.
Its nearly impossible to hand feed the tiny ones.
Fast food nation….the end shows the real deal of cow manufacturing on a large scale…the actual slaughterhouse working….unbelievable!
