Man, these two day weekends are just too damn short. Mine was relatively productive, as far as things go. In addition to the typical happy homeowner stuff, I managed to get a batch of beer bottled and even managed to catch the last couple hours of the US Open. The only thing missing, of course, was my dad. It sure would be nice to sit down and watch some golf with him again (or, better yet, play a round or two).

Debate heats up in US over coal fuel for cars
A fiery debate has been rekindled in Washington as US lawmakers mull proposed incentives to produce diesel fuel from coal.
Backers of coal-based liquid fuels say they can help reduce US dependence on imported oil. Critics contend the use of coal in any form would lead to increased greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful environmental effects.
Synthetic motor fuel from coal has been around for decades, but interest has been growing as a result of the surge in petroleum prices. Some point to the experience in South Africa, which produces much of its transportation fuel from coal.
In the US Senate, a proposal to provide up to 10 billion dollars in loans for coal-to-liquid projects is gathering steam and may be attached to a wide-ranging energy bill, which would among other things mandate more ethanol production and increased fuel economy for automobiles.
Other proposals being studied in Congress could provide fresh tax credits and other incentives for coal-to-liquid fuels that can be used in cars, trucks and even airplanes.
The technology for using coal for liquid or “synthetic” fuel has been known since the 1920s, and Germany used it extensively during World War II. The process being studied now would convert coal into a gas to remove impurities such as mercury and sulfur and, in a second stage, into liquid fuels and other chemical products.

It appears that google desktop uses alot of resources and can cause pc crashes….I uninstalled mine (and honestly I dont know what I had it for anyway…they just offered it to me but I wasnt using it as a reader or anything)…I have the google search bar and I go to google if I need something, but I dont keep it running anymore…Im trying actually to keep less things running, as far as stability goes with these Dells…
and believe me, Im gonna get out of the Dells asap unless they improve something quickly….
I would split Dell into 3 or 4 regional units and have ont he ground tech support …if youre gonna have your stuff built by chinese children you gotta expect that every little connection and plug will not be perfect….
But a couple of different techs told me that they have been seeing problems in systems with the google desktop.

My friend told me she heard it was supposed to hit 130 degrees this summer! :omg: I really can’t believe that. It can get to 120 here and it seems to at least once or twice a summer but I just can’t fathom 130. I was out and about in the all time record heat of 123 degrees back in the nineties and that was pretty bad but I just can’t imagine 130.
What’s worse is, I was out and about with my MOTHER in her un-air conditioned car that blistering day. I just remember thinking the whole day, “Holy CRAP! It’s hot :hot: ” and getting home and watching the news and finding out it was record hitting day. :nod:

AIR AMERICA CUTS NEWS: The progressive network Air America is eliminating its news service at the end of June.
The decision was “based solely on economics,” according to a staff memo from COO Scott Elberg. “We spent the last three months looking at all the options,” his memo said. “In the end, it didn’t work.”
Air America, heard locally on WWRL (1600 AM), was bought out of bankruptcy this year by Stephen L. Green, who pledged to run it with fiscal responsibility.
The news service has four staffers: Wayne Gillman, Bill Crowley, Mike Piazza and Mark Scheerer.

Meanwhile, much to my surprise the Quake presents an hour long locally produced news program after Rachel at 5PM that is not 1/2 bad and actually addresses some local stuff and extended content.
I was just reminded that back in the late 60s/early 70s we had a great radio station out here called KSAN http://www.jive95.com/ . They actually had a news department, not like Les Nessman, that did some great alternative news coverage and boasted staff like Larry Bensky, Dave McQueen, and Scoop Nisker. AAR should have checked out the heyday of that operation and some of its talent.

Laura Ellen was one of the creators of the trailblazing station KFAT in Gilroy, CA and when it was sold and disappeared went on to help raise KPIG from the ashes in Freedom, CA. KPIG is available on line as well as on a few satellite stations around CA.

We’re in Utah. A beautiful state if you don’t have to meet the residents. Nice antelope though and cute ground hogs. Not many hawks.
Still not a lot of “Love the War” signs. The most I’ve seen are “Support the Troops” magnets on peoples’ car but not even a lot of them.
We drove though Wyoming where the cows must be the Rethugs “cause there are very few people. Tried to figure out how Chaney the Impaler managed to find a gay wife and raise a gay daughter there.
Utah isn’t a great wifi spot. Not too great with Nextel cell phone coverage but then again Nextel coverage sucks anyway.
One thing they have plenty of in Utah is mosquitos and I’m getting bitten in spite of the Deep Woods Off, so I have to go in and that means the end of the wifi.
