fil·i·bus·ter ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fl-bstr)

The use of obstructionist tactics, especially prolonged speechmaking, for the purpose of delaying legislative action.
An instance of the use of this delaying tactic.

Yeah, Duid. I’m still here. I was tryin’ to hear sound Bytes of Bush, but my ears can’t take it. :ear: Either can my blood pressure:mad:
i’m not sure if she was on or not, Druid. it seems like she would be a great guest.
quietgirl, Her name sounds familar but I don’t know from where?
I tried to call Mark, but …. I think he has moved on. 🙁 ….. :fire:
travisdem_04 , Listening to bush = :billcat: ugh = :growl: …. :fire:
that’s cool Druid. At least you tried:banana::love::razz:
Check it It’s Malloy playin’ the stuff from Kansas.
I am a DEM but I hate — yes i said hate — their weakness’ and whimpyness :mad::mad:
Bad Dems :spank: — I won’t leave cuz I WILL disrupt:!:
Travisdem_04 did you hear I might some year kinda join ya — probably Juno. Any wolves and any places close to town but kinda in wild? Any such place? But probably NOT Juno …. :fire:
hey you guys….i have to finish up some storyboards so i might not be posting as much as i have been. but i’m still here…sort of:banana::spank::yawn::bong:
Mornin’ Seditionists!!
I’m not sure about the wolves, but if you look up all the statictics about Alaska, you may want to reconsider moving. It’s a good place to hang out for a while, soak up the atmosphere, smell the roses, that sort of stuff. But to settle down here is, to me, something to be avoided. Although, you’ve lived in Canada and know what it’s like, so anywhere you think is a good place to drop in at, is probably the best place.
Alaska is a bridge to nowhere, remember?
I hope I don’t sound like a jerk.
Riley just said he loves Jerry Springer’s TV show!:omg:
travisdem_04 I said the only way to go back to the intense snow is to protest drilling in Anwar(sp)and to let the (r) know I am in Alaska. Now in 😎 places I got major death threats … so up there how long before I receive? And do the (r) threatened or just do? I am stratezing my BRAIN… …
What a jerk! :sammy: Just kiddin’ bro! :peace:
Yeah, I think I’m gonna stay in Japan for a little while longer. I’ll come back when the revolution is at full strength! :growl:
Oh, sorry, I thought that was about me…
Hey I posted sound bytes of Malloy going through Bush’s speech on Monday night….Hear it here
What! You’re kiddin’?Riley loves Jerry’s show. Was that sarcasm, or what?
:40:
I typed other stuff, but I erased it somehow?
Sorry :sheep:le. No limerick yet. Thanks for the praise though. I have to sleep sometime. Maybe tomorrow.
Hey quietgirl, show us some of your storyboards. You’re very talented. We like your stuff.
quietgirl 😉 :bong:
Long Live The Art  and I am serious —
Get to work :spank:  😉
Bon Chance:!: …..:fire:
Nope, he said he loved it…
They paid Riley to say that. They must have.
I don’t think so man. He said it made him feel better about his own life….
I guess the exploitation of other people makes him feel all warm and fuzzy inside….
Sean, Naomi Klein is terrific. I heard her interviewed on Randi’s show last year talking about the war profiteers. I have read her articles in The Nation and Harpers Magazine. I think she also writes for The Guardian (UK).
Alrighty fellow seditionists, I’m gonna have a cold :40:
and do the news for a while. I’ll check back in later..
:peace:
Oh well, I guess. I haven’t heard Riley since the first Monday after Marc left. From the posts it doesn’t sound too great for Mark. I’ll turn it on and listen
He’s not on anymore and that sound hurts my ears. So much for that idea.
I remember Marc kidding Mark about rushing after they would finish MS for the day in order to catch Jerry on the tube. He is a HUGE fan.
druid, what do you mean when you say
❓
Kevin M and jasonwkinney G’Evening/G’Morning.
jasonwkinney I tried your link a few times, got Mike’s site and after trying to “listen” RATS 3 x’s and :growl: I give up and my :love:/:growl: relationship with the internet kicked in. :billcat:
Time to try again later, I quess. :fustrate:
:fire:
MORNING BLOG WARRIORS!
:billcat:
foggyblue re 😎 = cool so in cool places (like LA) How much more? I’m an “open book” :fire:
Even before Springer was on AAR, Mark confessed to being a fan of his TV show. 😐
Hell, I don’t care about Springer on TV – just get his radio show off of AAR! 😡
Good to see you’re off to a good start this morning. OK, gotta go now. See ya.
:billcat: this is me after all my emails to Senators telling them to do the right thing. Why do they need encouragement to do the right thing? Boggles the mind. 😯
I was very impressed yesterday with the statements made by Democrats on the Judiciary Committee. They painted a very grave scenario if Alito is allowed on the supreme court. If they can get the Senate to reject Alito or filibuster, those statements yesterday, I think, will go down in history. How a fellow democrat could listen to what they said and still vote yes is both confounding and inexcusible. Any democrat who votes yes on Alito is shameful. Voting yes means you are breaking your vow to uphold the constitution. Senators, you are suppose to be statesmen/stateswomen. If your constitutents told you to vote for slavery, would you??? You have to stand up for this country not for your reelection!
isi yea, I think you answered the question as to WHERE DID I HEAR HER? I always listen to Randi and, especially then, I listened almost 24/7. I am trying to change my sleep patterns. But not yet cuz 😮 I didn’t even know it was 4:30am PST (2 min away)
Good Morning .. I like what you said on your blogs of yesterday …. especially re subscribing to XM and A-LIE-to but then again I  The Posts of All:!:
:fire:
hey blog sibs, check this out (from the new scientist):
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8629
imagine the mood player hooked up to sean or travis or druid!!! they’d blow out its little heart. maybe maron could get one. he had a good time when his ipod talked to him. he’d have a great time with his mood player in charge.
Farmerkat G’Morning. :billcat: I  this emoticon — It reminds me of my “outside” strays. …..:fire:
Well, the Raleigh N&O hasn’t published my latest letters, so once again I post my latest and greatest here:
good morning. i think i wanna go back to bed
foggyblue, A new form of The Mood Ring :rofl2: the scary thing is I kinda like the tech stuff like that.
Bad Me :spank:
QuietGirl what say yea:?: Read the end of article and it states a bit what we were talking of re graphic artists. Hmmmmmm :rofl2: …:fire:
have a sore arm/back from washing & waxing one of these yesterday. OUCH! 😕
Hey trav, been wondering for a while…why have alaskans put that wack job ted stevens in the senate:?:
I have got to go to bed … just when the blog really gets hopin’. I have to feed fire then check back here then  But the odds are no  till Rachel is over … and call as many Senators in Washington DC before I fall asleep. :fire:
Well. beats me. He is the second most senior senator and sheeple think that all the power he’s accumalated over the years will help open ANWR. Alaska’s politicians are the most corrupt people around, and the constituents are the most greedy, so they love each other.
There’s more, oh yes, there’s more.
nc, I’d think they’d print it just so the list stops getting bigger.
file this in the government’s dumbest arguments folder:
so trav, alaskan corruption breeds like a fungus. :yuck:
The corruption is about as common as all the snow here.
I just can’t remember all of the specific circumstances
RE: CORRUPTION IN GOVERNMENT
I’d like to know why the regs don’t attack the companies who try to buy off political leaders. For example, the dukster’s giving of gov’t contracts to a defense company; why are there no rules requiring that company to give up their profits? If it wasn’t profitable, these creeps wouldn’t do it.
Farmerkat AHHHHHHHHHH  Now when I awake I must brush my “monster” and I will do so with nary/narrie (whatever) a’bitch’n cuz it won’t be as backbreaking…..:fire:
NC Blue I make cut out what you wrote ( with your name) and put on my wall just to REMIND ME:!: :omg: ….:fire:
Where is everybody? oh, I hope guys weren’t waiting for me to post. I know I said there’s more, but I’m too lazy to function man. I prefer readin’ it than typin’ it.
“As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there’s a twilight where everything remains seemingly unchanged, and it is in such twilight that we must be aware of change in the air, however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness.” — William O. Douglas, longest serving Justice (36 years) U. S. Supreme Court.
So, I was watching some music videos of John and Yoko last night and I think the whole Bed In For Peace idea is pure genius! No more standing out in the cold rain with a big dumb sign! Stay warm and cozy while you protest for peace. Set an example! Alright then, maybe I’ll go back to bed instead of going to work!
Sammy “the fish” Alito.:rofl2:
ISI, that’s great stuff man. It goes with our Twilight Zone theme today. Greatness.
Undecided Republicans:
Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
Lincoln Chafee (R-RI)
Susan Collins (R-ME)
Olympia Snowe (R-ME)
Any cigarette smokers on the blog who want to kick the habit? Maybe you need more patches because of your genes:

Fill the Bastard!:omg:
travisdem_04 Ditto  Great link…Where’s everybody? Now truly, I have to feed fire. Oh, Also I am not from Canada … my grandmother was, but not me only to border…I have been in snow from 07 ish degrees with wind chill to zero or 3 degrees and so on. But I am a CA girl (woman) mostly even at one time living in LA 🙂 …..:fire:
I watched a beautiful documentary yesterday while washing the beastie:
Don’t think it’s out yet – but wanted to mention so if you hear of it, it’s definately worth watching.
😉 NickiRose G’Morning: …fire:
Druid-
I love LA. Isn’t that the saying, from that tune, by that guy, a while back? You know what I’m talkin’ ’bout. Randy Newman, right? Do you really want to leave that place?
Okay, at this point it is a waste of energy to contact my rethug senators. Which Dems do we need to contact and show our support for filibuster?
Senate Floor Debate/Alito
Today
9:30AM ET
cspan

Time to go.-:nixon:
Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska
foggyblue, Wow… I guess I quit during the archaic times……But I have a friend that needs to know this, before his child is born in February. …. :fire:
Krista, last night Sam Seder mentioned contacting Mary Landrieu (D-LA).
If Ben Nelson is the only Democrat to vote yes, he could well be the person who gives Alito a majority!
Did I mess up? oops.:40:
Everyone should contact him and share their outrage with his vote, that’s what I ment. Sorry, please don’t ostracize me now.
Ostracize you, no way!
Ciao!
:fire:
Krista, Democrats in the gang of 14 who crafted the filibuster compromise:
Robert Byrd (D-WV)
Mark Pryor (D-AR)
Daniel Inouye (D-HI)
Joseph Lieberman (D-CT)
Ben Nelson (D-NE) (said he will vote yes)
 Ken Salazar (D-CO) will vote no. Don’t know his stance on filibuster.
travisdem_04 :rofl2: In school I use to sing I hate LA. I hate it. but that was before I married someone from S. Pasadena.:eek: ( orinally was from the San Francisco area and The City I even lived and worked there ) But if the snow is calling again :omg: “I will follow him (with cheesy smile)”
I will deal. Is there any wild near Juno? He loves polar bears, but that’s way too cold for him. and I am sending your links cuz Anchorage is tooo poplated. I am a recluse and he and I like about 10 or 20 miles out kinda. He did say there is Victorians or cabins type or things away from towns. hmmmmm
I was going to calls Senators but I will awake around 11am or so AND CALL SEN THEN 🙂 … :fire:
Druid, let me think about where the best place to reside in Alaska is and I’ll tell you tomorrow, is that cool?
Thanks isi. I guess I gotta get moving on this.
My clock is slowing and my light is dimming. I’m about to cash this check and hit it, you dig? (whatever that means)
I’ll see you guys later.
I know conventional wisdom says the Dems won’t filibuster, but the issues at stake are so important I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t do all I could to pressure for a filibuster. Too many people in our country’s history have died for our liberty to give up the fight now.
thanks for the tip isi….i just sent another letter to lamar alexander-r from my state.
I’m in a hurry today so here’s another Lynne Rosetto Kaspar recipe to tide you all over until I get to work. (BTW, has Gordon Smith weighed in on Alito beyond calling him “supremely qualified?)
Sweet Potato Galette with Sharp Cheddar
© 2006 Lynne Rossetto Kasper. All Rights Reserved
Serves 2 to 3 with a salad
2 large cloves garlic
3 tight-packed tablespoons parsley leaves
2 medium yams (about 1-1/2 pounds), peeled and sliced 1/16- inch thick (food processor or mandoline makes short work of this)
1 medium red onion, sliced the same as yams
1 small sweet red pepper, sliced the same as yams
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 scant teaspoon whole cumin seeds (bruised)
1/8 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes
Shredded zest of 1 large orange
1/3 cup pitted Kalamata or other black olives, coarsely chopped Salt and fresh ground black pepper
6 ounces (1-1/2 cups) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Oil a 14-inch pizza pan or a cookie sheet. Mince together the garlic and parsley. Place in large bowl with the potatoes and onion. Fold in olive oil, cumin, red pepper flakes, half the orange zest, and half the olives with generous sprinklings of salt and black pepper. Toss everything to coat the potato slices.
2. Spread potatoes out in an even single layer on the pizza pan. Bake 20 minutes then sprinkle with the reserved orange zest and olives. Bake another 10 minutes, or until potatoes are speckled with golden brown and the zest has darkened. To get the top to a rich gold color it may be necessary to broil the “pizza” for 2-3 minutes.
3. Sprinkle cheese over the potatoes. Let stand 1 minute. Remove from the oven and serve hot. Slice in wedges and lift off the pan with a spatula. Can be reheated.
Druid, it’s fixed now. Just click on each individual link….here
Scroll down a bit to see it…:fire:
They are only about a minute each.
Travisdem_04 G’Night. You are probably gone but sorry I was shutting and closing down and prepared fire for the night (for me) day for others …
 and all our talk made me think/to dream soon of “Songs From The Woods” I am gone about 10 min ago (2hrs ago mentally )
All Be Well G’Day 😉
jasonwkinney 😉 😎 I believe you, although I scrolled before  I know its my :love:/ :growl: relationship with my NET 🙂 when I awake I will hear and read then … if IT is in the “mood”. My husband never believed, but now he does….he seen it (the bee-zzare electrical behavior between my computer/NET/and me — strange menage a trois :omg: 😉 I am viewing for a few more … but  fading, fading, almost gone :yawn: …:fire:
jasonwkinney, since I am still awake…I wanted to say to you how your humour regarding your original “POST” name was perfectly sarcastic….and extremely humourous. :rofl2:
Okay, I admit I have been intermittantly listening to AA because there is only so much NPR one person can take.
Yesterday or Monday night I heard on one of the shows and it could be from Rachel to Mike Malloy an interaction Bush had with a college student who asked about why they cut a $1 billion dollars from the student loan program. It was an especially embarrassing interaction with Bush not even knowing about the cuts. Does anyone know where I can find that clip online or what show played it?
Indulge me a mid-week “vent” here — I sometimes listen to Rachel’s news – but I wish someone would tell her that she doesn’t have to mention her name 2-4 times every time she signs off and on between commercials. It is annoying after awhile, like a small mosquito that buzzes around. “Now we return to the Rachel Maddow show (announcer). You are listening to the RM show (Rachel). This is Rachel Maddow.” DUH, really. Sometimes they add in, next let’s talk to Dr. Maddow with Dr. Rachel Maddow. DUH, again. It has that hokiness and ego ring and so impersonal. It’s like she talks about herself as if she is not there and she is NOT very funny if that is what it is supposed to be. How about, “I’m Rachel.” Okay I stop…had to say it!
Boo-hoo I miss MS every day. 🙁
Druid_666. Thanks for pointing me to the . (As you can see I am still catching up on last week’s reading!
If the reruns occur as they should with Conan’s show, just a reminder that Marc is on the re-run either tonight or Thursday night.
b amazed – i think the clip you’re looking for was on both rachel and mike malloy (yeah, i confess, i’ve been listening in too. but only to these two shows. even laura flanders doesn’t do it for me anymore).
in any case, mike spent more time with the soundbites from kansas. i think it was on monday night’s show.
sorry, i meant to add this link. to mike’s show.
Is Rachel Maddow turning into Al Franken? Sheesh!
Krista, you gotcher eyes on? 🙂 Would you mind if I printed out your analysis of “Hustling Backwards” to share with the Exec Director at the agency where I work? We deal with poverty and the working poor and it’s of great interest to her how people are dealing with poverty. And you having lived in this area at one time (okay NEAR this area, since we serve Washington County and you were in my neck of the woods in Multnomah County) it would really be something she’d want to read.
Here’s what Mike Dirkx at KPOJ replied in response to my query about them picking up Maron’s new show.
I think everyone who listens via KPOJ needs to email and make this request.
Hi torn t. Thanks. I quickly searched all the shows and could not find but will now go back and look more closely at RM and MM. I kind of remember I was half asleep which would make sense with one of those shows!
My heart is only half in listening to AAR, but I have either cspan or AAR on during work day in home office and switch between sound and mute depending on which is most informative or entertaining.
Waking up without MS is hard. Have to go back and see if the final word is out on Marc’s new show.
Krista, you can email me at work if you want. I tried to send this privately but can’t so here it is for all the world to see. pjohnpoll@caowash.org. And if anyone else emails me at work there’s a 50/50 chance I’ll reply.
George Allen (R) Va
:priest:Igominious
He just said on the floor of the Senate, “make my day” (meaning filibuster)to the democrats and watch us proceed with our right for an up or down vote. I know we’re supposed to mix humor with politics but I’m finding it hard to find humor in this.
Beat around the bush update:
Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to vote Yes
thanks anyway isi…….dang it! i thought it was too good to be true with all frists influence here!
I 🙁 for our nation. Our great experiment in a demoncratic republic is dead.
We have a complacent citizenry (and I use that term lightly).
We have a media that’s become a corporate arm of the current administration.
We have impediments to our civil liberties.
Exactly how are we a free nation?
ok people i have to get rolling down the road again you all have a nice day and ill see you all again real soon

A couple of little things from today’s CQ mid-day update:
Political Clippings
The Harrisburg Patriot News reports that “Robert P. Casey Jr. might have turned the Democratic base against him when he announced yesterday that he supports confirming Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court. After refusing to say whether he would support Alito, Casey’s decision puts him at odds with abortion-rights advocates, a group whose support is seen as critical to his campaign to unseat U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa. . . . Casey’s announcement came hours after Gov. Ed Rendell, an abortion-rights supporter and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said he thinks Alito ought to be confirmed.Rendell’s declaration provided Casey ‘cover,’ but is unlikely to soothe many Democrats.”
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that “wealthy trial attorney Mike Ciresi, who for months has stayed mum about his political future, said Tuesday that he’ll announce next week if he’ll be a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. He ran for the seat six years ago, and should he run again, it could slow the momentum of the front-runner,” Hennipin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar. Child safety advocate Patty Wetterling, Klobuchar’s main competitor for the Democratic nomination, withdrew from the race last Friday. Veterinarian Ford Bell remains a candidate, but Klobuchar “holds a wide lead in fundraising and support of prominent DFLers,” the paper said.
So what am I seeing on C-span ?? Is this “the vote” or a vote on a vote to see if we will vote or what ??
Ouch, gypsy that is horrible news about Casey. My brudder in PA will NOT be happy. btw, my printer didn’t print parts of the recipes, so I’ll just type ** where it was cut off. I ifgure you are the better person to fill in the blanks!
Sean – DRIVE CAREFULLY! (what kind of rig do you drive and what do you haul? when you cruise the Atlanta highways, I might see you!

:billcat:
Man, am I happy to not live in Pennsylvania. Casey vs. Man-On-Dog. Some choice. :barf:
I was trying to find out if the MS shop at Cafe Press was still in operation (it is) and found this shirt which I want. If only I could afford it!
Hey, Farmerkat, thanks so much for all the help on the recipes. Everyone else, if you’ve saved one or more of my recipes, please post them in the blog entry pj set up for it and that I can’t find the link for right now. But I will. I can’t sell anything with all those recipes because at least two thirds of them are copyrighted by someone else but I do want to put togeher a booklet, with illustrations and memorable blog entries (possibly the memories thread from the old blog) to share with everyone who wants it. (I’ll probably charge for postage and maybe for paper. Or not. Depends on my mood. The old trolls get special editions, gratis, but you don’t wanna know what I’m sending them if they ask. :rofl2:)
the way I accessed the recipe page was via the link on yesterday’s blog – perhaps pj the blog-god could post an easy-access link
Well, Kerry was doing a good job in his speech just now, UNTIL at the very end he said, I hope I’m proven wrong (essentially saying he won’t filibuster).
John Kerry :rant1:
http://morningseditionists.com/msblog/?page_id=65
PJ, honey darling dear, would you put that up as a link on the side of the page? Pretty please with sugar on it?
I just ordered a book I’ve been drolling over for months. So I’m kinda  dancing now. I’ll deal with my anger at Gordon the Jerk Smith later.
The folks over a DU seem to think that what is on C-span is not “the vote” but the first of what will probably be several votes. They may not Filibuster ( if they do filibuster) until it comes time for the fat lady to sing.
Fred, as I understand it,the democrats are requiring that they be given time to debate the nomination of Alito. They alternate each hour between Democrats and Republicans. The republicans are ticked off about this because they just want to vote. Essentially their arguments are that Alito should be on the supreme court because his friends like him, he’s a decent man, Bush won the election therefore he should get his pick, people are frightened of gay marriage, etc. On the other hand, the democrats have made really substantive statements.
Fred, do the people at DU think the democrats will filibuster?

Military Contractor Philanthropy
Why Some Stay Silent
By JOAN ROELOFS
The military-industrial complex is elephantine, yet it is rarely taken into account by political commentators. Connected to almost everything, it is one reason why the home front sustains our aggressive, illegal, military interventions and occupations throughout the world. Many good people are in thrall to the military-industrial complex, and consequently are silenced, unwilling to become active opponents. These include liberals, social justice advocates, and even professional soldiers who question our illegal interventions. There are, of course, some protesters in our nation, but not enough to make militarism the main issue in Congressional and Presidential elections, or to give the subject much visibility on a daily basis.
Militarism is promoted through the relentless manipulation of public opinion in all media: Hollywood films (aided by DOD armament loans), TV, video games, the public relations army of the DOD, newspapers, magazines, parades, etc. For the intellectuals, there are articles in “liberal” magazines alleging that violence is genetically implanted in humans, and a generally positive force. This barrage normalizes violence and war. Most people want to regard themselves as normal, and not fuzzy idealists or crackpots, so they increasingly view aggression as inevitable, and perhaps a good thing. Bombing people into democracy (as in Yugoslavia) becomes a reasonable proposition; overthrowing governments (as in Haiti) just a routine world improvement activity. Both these actions were widely accepted or ignored by liberals, among others.
Fear motivates human behavior; many people eschew protesting wars as they are afraid of being considered unpatriotic, and subjected to government harassment, discrimination in employment, social penalties, or beatings by local thugs. Even those who suspect that war is not normal may be convinced that nothing they can do will change anything.
Yet the home front support is not based merely on psychological manipulation; there are interests served by the military-industrial complex…

(Comment on #145) Does this mean that Franken will not be running for the senate? His name was not mentioned in the brief. Isn’t a run for the senate the reason why he moved back to Minnesota?
Rawstory seems to think that the dems will not Filibuster Alito but it has gone from very unlikely to don’t think so … to ????
http://tinyurl.com/a5k4k
One comment from the senators is that there is no ground swell to vote against Alito.. How many phone calls, faxes, and emails do they want for heavens sake.
It is tough to show the general population what is at stake if Alito is confirmed when the media, even the left leaning media like Huffington Post is paying absolutely no attention to this. But, you know, the Senators have to be more passionate and decide if they want to stand on principle or stand for reelection. What if your vote kept Alito off of the Supreme Court but you were defeated in the next election. So what, at least you kept a right wing idealogue off of the supreme court.
Well Nicki… : Al may have found that the Minnesota Democrapic party is just like the Colorado Democrapic party and will support the guy who is most likely to fund most if not all of his campaign out of his own pocket and this guy has more money in the bank than Franken does. Getting politically active is not running for office.. its just something you do to occupy all your time so you don’t go out on the streets and break some rethugs stuff.
But, Gypsy, there’s been a link over there on the right for “Gypsy’s Recipes” (under Pages) all along.
I sure want to know the democratic senators who oppose a filibuster and those who support it.

Nicki, Franken is running (if he runs) in 2008. He would be going up against Norm Coleman for the seat that Paul Wellstone occupied prior to his death.
Amy Klobuchar is running this year for Minnesota’s other Senate seat. She was on Franken’s show today, as a matter of fact. Sounded sensible and progressive, and most importantly of all, of course, she set up Al’s jokes very nicely.
Her website is
http://www.amyklobuchar.com
if anyone wants to check it out.
You know, this upsurge of lobbying activism over Alito–and the seeming lack of response–sort of reminds me of the anti-NAFTA campaign. I mean, big mobilization against it. I know, different struggle. Corporations do not have a stake in the anti-Alito struggle.
Keep up the pressure!:omg:
Re: Franken for senate. Hell. I forgot about ’06. I thought they were talking about the Coleman run. I hope they run that rightwinger out of office. (BTW, has anyone tied Coleman into the Wellstone murder conspiracy. I like tin foil hat stuff when it can be used to wreck rightwingers.)
The senators sited polls in the Rawstory article … I have not seen many polls concerning Alito recently. Zogby just sent me a new one but there was nothing concerning Alito in it. The senators seem to get their news from .. maybe behind their left ear some place.. The Roberts nomination had a lot of phone calls and emails from unhappy constituents in the last weeks before the vote and they seemed to have been ignored.
I like what Mike Malloy said, we shouldn’t have to lobby Senators to do the right thing. That’s what gets me upset when senators say they need a groundswell from the american public to take action. Most people don’t have the time to do the research on these issues, they’re suppose to do the hard work and then inform their constituents of why they are going to vote a certain way. It’s the easy way out to follow some poll.
Ignore us at your peril, you political dogs. Take names. Let Lincoln and Oly know that they will pay a price, as well, for toadying up to the neocons and the taliban.:crap:
Ms Rant’s attempt to be the afternoon Stephie Miller has a bit to be desired.
Randi has to be preaching pretty much to the choir these days so why does she keep iterating over and over and over and over and over again about the made up intel on IRAQ, Jeff Gannon and the rethug scandals.. Its not like knowing about this for the two hundredth time makes any difference at this point.
Malloy is right. Our problem is that we do not live in a democracy. But you know, this is a political struggle, not one against corporate interests. GE and Boeing don’t necessarily want Alito confirmed; Bush wants Alito confirmed. Meaning: WE CAN WIN THIS SON OF A BITCH!
:rant1::rofl2::rant1::omg:
Nicki : fascism is where the corporate interests and the political interests are merged. Alito is nice combination corporatist and nut job so he works for most of the rethug supporters. There is something about being on the inside of the beltway that blurs the politicians view of what the public thinks.. There are just not enough significant figures on the amount line on your check.
Corporations are not united on Alito. Such things as Unitary Executive, and Roe v. Wade are of concern to bigshots in the corporations.
I just got this email from People for the American Way. They haven’t given up.
Alito’s nomination is being debated on the Senate floor as we speak. Call your senators and Democratic leaders Reid and Leahy now. Tell them the time to stand up is now — ask them to make a commitment to do everything possible to defeat Alito’s nomination.
I wouldn’t give up either.. Like they say its not over until its over. Wayne Allard will only be detoured from the kiss Bushes ass road by perhaps a well placed brick.. Salazar already voted NO
Randi needs to get more principled libertarians like Turley on her show. Great interaction.
:banana:Patty Murray (D) Washington
Voting NO on Alito
How is Lincoln Blue Blood voting?
Are activists targetting any Republican Senators to vote against Alito?
:omg::omg:
Can you use the words libertarian and principled in the same sentence ??. Most of the libertarians I know are idiots. The Katrina disaster is a libertarian kind of thing.
The last I heard the undecided Republicans are:
Lincoln Chafee
Susan Collins
Olympia Snowe
Are you baiting me, fred? If Katrina was a “libertarian kind of thing,” what does that make the Viet Nam War? A liberal…
PJ, yup, I just found it. Thanks. I’ve been blind all day for some reason…
I would say that the disaster that was caused by the Bush admin and Katrina and Vietnam are like comparing apples and oranges. In the 50’s and 60’s everyone was made afraid of Commies and most Americans were initially in favor of trying to stop the advance of communism with vivid memories from newsreels of terrible acts committed by Communist dictators like Joe Stalin and Lenin and the imprisonment of eastern Europe. The Katrina disaster was caused by libertarian concepts of no government is good, let free markets and the survival of the fittest determine who lives and who dies. I don’t quite see the connection.
Up until the Bushes took office the Socialists were far left, then the dems then the moderate dems then the moderate rethugs, then the regular rethugs then the libertarians. The libertarians were generally considered to be on the far right. It went from large do everything government to small do nothing government. The Bushes seem to be large spend everything but do nothing government
Fred, I’ll go along with much of what you said about Katrina and the libertarianism, but please be kind to us Old Farts who remember the Beatles fondly, and spell it “Lenin.”
Finally a free moment. I’m trying to stream Randi, but airamericaradio won’t come up. What’s going on? Is this part of that new Premium nuisance?
I was able to get the AAR stream ok about two hours ago. What kind of things are happening to you when you try to access the stream ??
The libertarians fatal flaw is that they believe in markets as the best way to dispense “the goods”.
We attacked Viet Nam because the US post-WWll global system could not stand independent development.
The main thing that Bushco is doing is, domestically, going balls out to kill the New Deal, and, internationally, acting unilaterally into the world. He is isolating the US.
:rant1::sammy: bush :growl::growl::growl:… even now still e-mailing (again and again and…) from. But I Had To Come Up (for a sec) Out Of The PUS:!::!::!: What the HELL is happin’ to MY/OUR GOVT? :growl: :growl: :growl: () Call/email Mary Landrieu:!::!::!:
 :fire:
listened to kerry today i swear after a speech like that how can he not support a filibuster????? im crossing my fingers and praying for one so the rethugs pull out the nuclear option just so they actually show the american public how anti-american they really are then again that might not work since they kinda show that every day anyway damn it i feel like im so ineffectual grrrr:mad: anyway im gonna eat my food now
Evening, Seditionists.
I’ve been down for three days with a really nasty stomach flu. What’d I miss? Anouncement from Marc? I’m still not quite out of the woods, but I did notice PJ’s note about gypsy’s recipe.
Gypsy, if you’re out there, the MS blog is still up and you can search it. I did a quick search on the word recipe and got many, many hits, but frankly was too sick to go any further.
Someone please fill me in if there’s any news from the Paranoid Jew–I can’t possibly read through the six hundred or so posts I’ve missed over the past few days!
Statement from the short sighted Mary Landrieu::roll:
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., released the following statement today regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to succeed Sandra Day O’Connor as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Sen. Landrieu is a member of the so-called “Gang of 14,” a bipartisan group of Senators who last spring brokered a compromise to permit a floor vote on contentious judicial nominees while allowing the Senate to move on to other matters important to Louisiana voters and the nation.
Sen. Landrieu said:
“Because we have such a full plate of pressing issues before Congress, a filibuster at this time would be, in my view, very counterproductive. It is imperative that we remain focused on creating the tools New Orleans, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast will need to rebuild. This includes passing the Baker bill and allowing our state to keep its fair share of offshore energy revenues. We simply cannot afford to bring the Senate to a halt at a time when we need its action the most. If called to vote for cloture on Judge Alito’s nomination, I will vote yes.
“I will continue to consult with constituents, groups, organizations and colleagues to decide on my final vote. I do think it is important that we have an up or down vote.”

citizenkahn, there has been nothing new about maron or his show since his appearance on conan on the 18th. the supposed announcement from aar on monday was a ridiculous mention that aar would make maron’s and thom hartman’s shows available on podcast for a huge sum of money just like all the other aar programs. no mention of when marc’s show might start or its time slot or NOTHING. aar just gets poopier every day that passes.
Hi everyone!
Long day…again…and I had to go out so early this morning for a meeting at my son’s school, I didnt get to check mail or blog or anything!
My Mom was just telling me that Bush spoke today on every channel…and it was rather unintelligible and unclear as to why he was speaking again and interrupting all TV! So she started switching channels and went to CSPAN to see what was up with the hearings and there was Hillary speaking…then right after her came Kerry. Coincidence? I think not! Bush obviously planned to turn off all normal TV at a moment when they might have carried a bit of the hearings because the stars were speaking….heh heh…
I think Mom may have had her tin foil hat on today, though I put nothing past these creeps!
I listened to half of Rachel today and then switched to the one Bill Mahr show podcast that is left on iTunes. It is SO funny…I was walknig round the supermarket laughing out loud! I remembered again how important the funny is to me in these dark days.
Also, one of my worst ever pieces of writing was published as a letter in the local paper today. It was taken from a letter that I wrote to Lieberman and Dodd, stating that our Senators work for us and that history will look back on…blah, blah, blah…bloody war to create this country…yada, blah, blah…Anyway, they contacted me to change it from “you” to “our Senators”…and its good that it was published except that I dont know that it makes much sense ultimately because I dont explain myself well enough in the area of political expediency and doing what one does to keep one’s job or garner power in the scheme of things vs. being a freakin hero and going down in history for going down in flames for having real belief in what people have fought and died for!!
Oh well….
Long day and Im just tired…my own worst critic too.
I cant get on the Seditionparty website…is methaz out there? whats going on?
Im worried about the pay thing and am trying to get the rest of the shows one way or another…I gues I will have to continue from the AAP site, but its harder there because its set up differently and the links dont change color when you’ve downloaded them!
Hey, I listed my iPod on ebay to sell and 3 days later they took it down because I said that I would leave the content on if the buyer wants…I said that I had a novel and some study spanish stuff and some AAR shows plus music. They cited copyright issues…since I only listed AAR Im thinking that they are scanning ebay (as I scan ebay for my grandfather’s bootleg shows,)
I had read and read the ipod book to try to figure out how best to do this and alot of people offer to leave content on their pods without mentioning what it is….Apple allows one to put their content on as many ipods as one wants…and so it didnt occure ot me that you couldnt give your ipode away or dell it with content on it. I half expect that when the person sets the ipod up with their computer, the content will go because it is not on the computer anyway….I just find it funny that AAR may be looking for bootleggers on ebay…as if they really had something to sell. I just dont see this subscription thing as something that will bring in enough to make it outweigh the value of podcasting in bringing in new listeners….as in advertising….
craziness!
Medicare Bill Tied to Abramoff…heh heh…and dont forget Delay too!!
I dont know why this gives me such a thrill…but it does!
I think we should somehow “save” the old Morning Sedition blogs..(I saved the Oregon one.) How much do you thing Danny will charge for a blog download?
:rofl2:
ISI THX …I heared of this before I called her … :rofl2: :growl:
I use to be in a high power position (before I decided to go — with others, into the mts), so I know the “succinct”, direct GAME to “PLAY” in regards to “yuck-speak”. But now I just speak and barely type my anger here.
I know SOME get very WORRIED (and put in this blog) that I speak with only :mad:and :growl:, but I can peel ones skin delicately and slowly with “the correct words” and manner. Here I can barely write (no time) and think and SPELL (not) and talk mostly in “smileys/emoticons”.
And if you like to tether me, Bon Chance:!: 😉

Okay, I’m back in the studio  I had to write a bad check and get a damned measles shot and run all over campus:fustrate:, but I have access to KILNS and CHEMICALS! Funny I got all mad about having to submit to a credit check for a job. :sheep::roll::wink:

Thanks Foggyblue. sometimesI type so fast and think so fast that it moves into a higher cortex or whatever so I dont know what Ive written….I guess I have to try to get some sleep.
Ive been messing with this blogger thing and have made a blog but it hasnt got much on it yet except for a post that I should really edit…alot…heh…
anyway it is here if you wanna take a look. I have to work on it a bit more tomorrow…but now Ive got to get some sleep …and the daily show is on!
:banana:ok well i sent an e-mail to the working families party about running for congress on the working families line i actually got more of a response from them than i did from the dnc when i walked into the dnc offices in person to inquire they sent me an e-mail that said they will be holding interviews in may and that they will be putting out a questionnaire at the end of march beginning of april very annoying that my own party wont answer my questions about how to run on their platform and the working families party gets back to me within 24 hrs with information ughhh i hate my local dnc i think im going to just go in there one day and take the place over in the name of real democrats everywhere!!!!! viva la revolucion

BREAKING: FILLIBUSTER WITHIN REACH – CALL NOW!!
by DerekLarsson Wed Jan 25, 2006 at 05:41:44 PM PDT
Folks, this message just in from Progressive Democrats For America (PDA).
_____________________
The Fillibuster is within our grasp!
Call now and let them know we mean business!
Fillibuster here we come…
No Retreat, No Surrender!
Senate Democrats refuse to signal whether or not they will filibuster Alito. They appear to have 41 votes, since Ben Nelson (D-NE) is the only one of 44 Democrats who supports Alito. Jim Jeffords (I-VT) should oppose Alito, and 5 Republicans – Lamar Alexander (TN), Lincoln Chafee (RI) Susan Collins (ME), Olympia Snowe (ME), and Ted Stevens (AK) – are undecided.
We’ve called and called, but we need to call our Senators again and DEMAND A FILIBUSTER: TOLL FREE – 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641
For extra credit, use the same numbers to call all the 2008 Presidential candidates who are sitting Senators – Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Russ Feingold, and John Kerry – and tell them to either LEAD THE FILIBUSTER or FORGET ABOUT YOUR SUPPORT. You can also send that message to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (202-224-2447) and the Democratic National Committee (202-863-8000
