Back to work. Bleh. I actually did some work from home yesterday morning. If I have to work, I’d really prefer to do it from home. There’s really no reason I couldn’t. Except for the “Theory X” people in charge, who apparently feel that if you aren’t sitting at a desk in a windowless office, you won’t do anything. I honestly think I’d get more done from home and would probably work longer hours (I mean, a lot of my work day is comprised of getting ready and commuting – time I could spend actually accomplishing something). Plus I have a window. Daylight would go a long way toward making me happier and more productive. But, no.
I have support duty this week, so hopefully a lot of people are off. Talk about a productivity killer. Having to respond to idiot questions can get pretty tedious – especially since it’s mostly crap that has nothing to do with me. I mean, how the hell should I know when you’re gonna see your raise in your paycheck? Ever hear of a department called “Payroll”? People are stupid.
Mondays are getting more and more difficult for me these days. I spend the whole day filled with what I can only describe as despair. I think it’s the lack of daylight. I sat around with my sister and her hubby yesterday as we tried to brainstorm ways to make money (not for the first time). They’re retired and could use some extra money, and I would like to be retired. We couldn’t come up with anything.
Oh well, I suppose I ought to get my mind right and get going. I need to get gas on my way in (oh boy, more money).
I can’t imagine working in a windowless space. I, too, would find that really depressing.
As for retirement, life has been it’s usual turmoil without the hassle of getting up and going to work. I sorta miss my colleagues, but not enough to actually go to see them.
Palemale and his new love, Lima, seem to spend more time together than he and Lola used to. Palemale has begun to refurbish his nest so perhaps spring is not so far away. And, Lincoln has great pictures of the owl in Central Park.

In 1988 Paul made a presidential campaign stop at the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws while running on the Libertarian Party ticket. “What was so bad about the period from 1776 to 1914?” Paul wondered, referring to a time in American history when drugs were legal on the federal, and, in many towns, local level. “In the 20th Century, the doctors, like all business people, decided that there ought to be a monopoly. ‘If you wanted a little bit of codeine in your cough medicine, it would be much better if you come to me so I can charge you $25 for a prescription.’â€
Paul, in a speech aired at the time on C-SPAN went on. “Before the 20th Century there was none of that and it was the medical profession as well as many other trade groups that agitated for the laws. And you know there’s a pretty good case made that this same concept was built in with racism as well. We do know that opium was used by the Chinese and the Chinese were not welcomed in this country,†Paul said. “We do know that the blacks at times use heroin, opium and the laws have been used against them. There have been times that it has been recognized that the Latin Americans use marijuana and the laws have been written against them. But lo and behold the drug that inebriates most of the members of Congress has not been touched because they’re up there drinking alcohol.â€

Largely insulated from the country’s economic downturn since 2008, members of Congress — many of them among the “1 percenters†denounced by Occupy Wall Street protesters — have gotten much richer even as most of the country has become much poorer in the last six years, according to an analysis by The New York Times based on data from the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit research group.
