Whoopie, it’s Sunday! That means I have to go to work tomorrow. Sometimes I think it’d be better not to even get the weekend off. Then maybe we’d all realize how badly we’re getting screwed, and we wouldn’t put up with this shit any more. Not that I don’t love my job, you understand. It’s just that it really fucks up my whole day. Anyway….
On Press the Meat, it’s Hack Day, as Timmy Potatohead hosts a plethora of hacks, all on to “talk politics.” Today it’s Dan “got no” Balz of the WaPost, Ron Brownstain Brownstein, of the LA Times, the always hacktacular John Harwood of the Wall Street Journal, Mrs. Alan Greenspan, Andrea Mitchell, Eugene Robinson of the WaPost, and Chuck “the schmuck” Todd, of NBC News. Whoopdie-doo, whoopdie-doo.
Over at Faze the Nation, they’ll try to pack a whole lot of nothing into 30 minutes, as Bush Buddy Bobby Scheiffer hosts Pat Leahy, Arlen “all talk no action” Specter, SI’s Frank Deford, Jason Whitlock of the KC star, WaPost schmuck John Feinstein, and Jim VandeHei of the ever-incorrect Politico.com.
On Fux News Sunday, weaselface Wallace hosts Russ Feingold, the increasingly insignificant Nwwt Gingrich, and (for some reason), Cal Ripken.
On Goebbels, George Snufalufagus has Chuckie Schumer, Bush suck up (and sucker) Orrin Hatch, Bob “hey, with a wife like mine, you’d need viagra, too) Dole, and his little buddy, Donna Shalala. Then at the roundtable, it’s Fareed “token” Zakaria, Cokie “the hag” Roberts, and David “pickled” Gergen.
Wolf Blitzer’s Late Emission looks pretty lame (I mean, he’s got Ken Blackwell on, for god knows what reason), with the only bright spot being the ever entertaining Charlie Rangel.
Later, on 60 Minutes, the rerun episodes include Steve Kroft paid off Congress to pass the Medicare prescription drug law, Morley Safer profiles jailbird Dennis Kozlowski, and Scott Pelley does a story on “mixed martial arts,” which combines boxing, wrestling and jujitsu.
Enjoy your Sunday, everybody.

A key aide says Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s relations with Gen. David Petraeus are so poor the Iraqi leader may ask Washington to withdraw the overall U.S. commander from his Baghdad post.
Iraq’s foreign minister calls the relationship “difficult.” Petraeus, who says their ties are “very good,” acknowledges expressing his “full range of emotions” at times with al-Maliki. U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker, who meets with both at least weekly, concedes “sometimes there are sporty exchanges.”
It seems less a clash of personality than of policy. The Shiite Muslim prime minister has reacted most sharply to the American general’s tactic of enlisting Sunni militants, presumably including past killers of Iraqi Shiites, as allies in the fight against al-Qaida here.
An associate said al-Maliki once, in discussion with President Bush, even threatened to counter this by arming Shiite militias.

A surgeon general’s report in 2006 that called on Americans to help tackle global health problems has been kept from the public by a Bush political appointee without any background in medicine or public health, chiefly because the report did not promote the administration’s policy accomplishments, according to current and former public health officials.
The report described the link between poverty and poor health, urged the US government to help combat widespread diseases as a key aim of its foreign policy, and called on corporations to help improve health conditions in the countries where they operate.

Amid surfers and skaters, a tiny blue butterfly has scored a telling victory in its fight against extinction.
The rare El Segundo blue has returned to two popular beaches southwest of Los Angeles where it has not been seen in decades.
This is no mere academic sighting of a rare species.
Scientists say they are surprised at the resurgence. Dozens of the rare butterflies are thriving, not in some rarefied fenced-off reserve but in public view at county beaches in Redondo Beach and Torrance.

:rofl2: I just had the best synchronicity, I have Sedition Radio on and I saw that cockroach that skittered under the refridgerator earlier so I proceeded to take my flip flop off and smash it over and over. You gotta see guts or it aint dead! Since it’s in my house it’s free game. :pirate: After several whacks, I finally saw guts and stood there watching it for a few seconds. As I was standing there, weapon in hand, Morning Rememberance came on with the intro, “Every week we take a moment to reflect in our times of sorrow as we look back on the lives of the recently departed…….” The ghost of Morning Sedition visited me this morning! :rofl2:
U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen is preparing legislation that would allow states to make prescription drugs more affordable for low- and moderate-income Americans, a challenge to Bush administration policies that have thwarted such efforts in Maryland and elsewhere.

Exclusive: Gangs Spreading In The Military
Evidence of gang culture and gang activity in the military is increasing so much an FBI report calls it “a threat to law enforcement and national security.” The signs are chilling: Marines in gang attire on Parris Island; paratroopers flashing gang hand signs at a nightclub near Ft. On Fux News Sunday, weaselface Wallace hosts Russ Feingold, the increasingly insignificant Newt Gingrich, and (for some reason), Cal Ripken.
Reason being he was inducted into the Hall of Fame this afternoon, along with Tony Gwynn. My question is, why did Fux invite Ripken and not Gwynn? Maybe cuz Ripken is white and Gwynn is…
nah, that couldn’t be it. Not Fux, the fair and balanced place. ๐
I’m not following baseball as much as I used to, but you gotta like guys like Gwynn and Ripken, who played hard every day without extracurricular assistance. (Sorry, Druid.)
Ah, baseball. Thirty-seven seconds of action, packed into three hours.

Comment by pjsauter รขโฌโ July 29, 2007 @ 7:30 pm
As opposed to Devil Rays baseball, which is thirty-seven seconds of misery packed into three hours. :barf:
Which probably has something to do with why I’m losing interest. Although they actually won today for a change, from what I understand. I didn’t watch it.
Baseball in person is fun (more for the people-watching aspect). On TV, not so much. I always thought they should televise baseball the way they do golf. Just keep switching to where something is going to actually happen.

that’s what I like — doing nothing :yippee: :pirate: I’ll take a mimosa please. A!I!V!
I used to like listening to baseball on the radio. But now the announcers spend too much time showing off the irrelevant facts they, and only they, remember or care about.
In Brooklyn, we have a minor league team called the Cyclones. They’re a Mets farm team. The stadium is in Coney Island and you can see the Cyclone roller coaster over third base. Tickets are $10. On a nice evening, the sea smells great, the Cyclone riders scream and they do all kings of crowd entertaining, singing and dancing and having silly races. The team fills up the 8000 seat stadium almost every night. It’s lots of fun
Giuliani had the stadium built because he wanted to build a stadium for the Yankee’s farm team in Staten Island. That team is named with all the imagination the Yankkees usually show. It’s called the Staten Island Yankees and inspite of being across the water they do not get nearly the attendance of the Cyclones.
RG, that’s a pretty little baby.
Just saw The Simpson’s Movie. I thought it was pretty darn-diddly good, IMHO. I laughed like I used to laugh and I missed not being able to see it with my Simpson’s pal ๐
