Get ready for the “terrifying megastorm” (as the lo-cal paper puts it this morning). I don’t think it’ll be a major deal up here, but it doesn’t sound so great for the NY Metro area. Let’s hope things aren’t quite as bad as they’re making them out to be. Though I guess it’s probably not a good day to take the ferry to Staten Island.
Congratulations to the SF Giants for their sweep of the hapless Tigers. Any time you can get the World Series over in four games, it’s a good thing. I just hope that your part of the city went unscathed in the after math of the “celebrations” last night (I assume that the media blew the “riots” out of all proportion, and things were nowhere near as dire as they were made out to be).
Speaking of Giants, congratulations to the NY Giants for spanking The Cowboys last night. It’s always enjoyable to see Dallas lose – especially at home, and especially after they clawed their way back from a huge deficit, only to fall short in the end. As Nelson Muntz would say, “ha-ha!”
Meanwhile, election season crawls to a merciful end. I just hate the thought of Romney winning (though I think if he “wins” at this point, it will be due to the fix being in in the swing states, coupled with the massive amount of Super PAC money being thrown out there), so I guess I just won’t think about it. Let’s just hope the wingnuts don’t take the Senate.
Oh well, time to get ready to get out there and face another week. Stay out of the subway.
The police came to visit us last night at 11 PM. They wanted to tell us that we had missed out opportunity to evacuate and were on our own. Don’t call them if we need help!
This morning at high tide there was a bit of street flooding. This evening at high tide is the real test.
As long as they’re not planning on coming back to kill and eat you, I guess that’s OK.
I’ll keep that in mind.
It is Emperor Bloomberg who decided that having the police deliver that message would surely make community relations better. One neighbor called to say that he’d never call the police if he needed help anyway. Bloomie’s stop and frisk program has not endeared him to many. But he’s still better than Ghouliani who would have had us arrested.
I just want to make it clear that I NEVER voted for either one of those jerks.
Hmm. Schools seem to be closing early today. SU is cancelling all classes after 1:40 this afternoon, and all day tomorrow. The weather? Right now, cloudy and calm, as far as I can see.
Are they massively overreacting, or should I be worried?
SueP- I really hope you and your loved one comes
through ok. This isn’t looking good at all.
As for NY further upstate, the wind will turn sometime tomorrow
and pile the water up on the south side of Lake Ontario 😮
The current wave predictions for the Lake Ontario shoreline are in the 15-25 foot area, with Oswego looking to be at 30+ feet. That’s pretty high.
Looking at Atlantic City photos – seems to be under water. Times Square is also under water and abandoned. Good luck to everybody on the coast.
It seems that the hurricane has sped up and will make landfall several hours before high tide in Red Hook. That should help.
Emperor Bloomberg said that police etc. would help people who did not evacuate. I guess his, “Don’t call us” message from the police last night was not received well.
Bloomberg has Gubnor Krispy Kreme to make him look gracious and nice. I’ve seen some pics of the high water in Red Hook.
This is The Riot in San Francisco that matters.
What a GIANT night!!! :alc: HumBaby!! San Franciscans don’t riot, they just party and have fun. :nixon:
Stay safe and dry, folks. :gate:
And remember to follow the advice from R’Money’s Tweet:
OK, Folks: Here’s what’s REALLY going on!! Good one to set as a desktop image if you had a work computer (which I do not have in my new job where they are still using tin-cans-&-string to communicate with the place where I used to work that has all the computers that now owns the tin-cans-&-string place …. it’s complicated).
