It’s too dark to see how much snow we got, but I don’t think it was all that much (though it’s still coming down some). Maybe eight inches if we got what Syracuse got. Maybe more, if you believe my sister, who says she has a lot over at her place. It’s only about 5 miles as the crow flies from me, but we’re a valley apart, and the weather can vary quite a bit. I can see car headlights off in the distance, so I reckon traffic is moving OK. Still, I reckon there’s enough to plow the driveway (on the odd chance that FedEx actually makes it here today).
Otherwise, I don’t think I’ll be doing all that much. If I go out, it’ll be to get some more mouse traps. I found a little path they like to use under the baseboard heater and over to a dog food bowl. I’ve gotten three in the past 4 days, but now my trap doesn’t want to reset, and I can’t find any others around. I really should be more diligent and set some up in the basement where (based on their turds) they seem to like hang out. I don’t really like to kill them, but what am I gonna do? Take them out to the country? I’m already in the country – I’d have to take them to another country. If they’d just hang out and stay warm it’d be one thing. But they piss and shit all over the place, and they chew through all kinds of stuff. So, PETA forgive me, they just have to go.
I wouldn’t have to do this if the cats were doing their jobs.

My friend on Long Island got 23″.
:omg:
I heard hundreds of cars were stranded on the LIE. That’s got to be hard for them, ‘cuz they flip out if they get an inch or two. Haven’t heard from my brother on LI – whenever the wind blows, he loses power, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the dark. He keeps saying he’s gonna get a generator. I wonder if he’s gotten one yet.
My friends still have power but many do not. I haven’t seen much yet on New England.
I thought I heard Bloomie relinquishing some of NYC’s emergency services to A-Cuomo because LI was hit much harder. Must be a post-Sandy conscience thing. I will have to look later to see how the places heavily damaged by the ‘Superstorm’ Sandy.
We got more than a foot. It’s hard to tell how much because there was so much drifting. Lola couldn’t get off the deck. The snow was higher than her belly. We put some bird feeders under the grill and although they got partially covered with snow the birds found them this morning. Can’t get a car out of the driveway. Mike wants his very own plow.
We lost power for a half hour but we got it back and so far no more problems. I can’t tell if the roads on the island are plowed but they probably are. The ferry may be running too. There is a person who is coming to plow the driveway so perhaps we’ll get out later.
The problem is the rest of Suffolk County. Many roads, according to the news, are not plowed and there are many stranded cars blocking them from doing so.
We got eight to ten inches here. Not much of a problem. I’m glad it wasn’t more.
Hartford, CT
Today it is possible to get around Shelter Island, but it is still not possible to get to the city as the Long Island Expressway will be closed until 5PM. We are going to try to get into the city this evening because the Dept of Buildings is coming tomorrow to OK the gas connection that was made when our heat was repaired. They will not cancel the appointment because we didn’t giv e them 24 hours notice having had the bad sense to have the storm on Friday and the weekend does not count for in that 24 hours.
The snow is quite hard this morning, but Lola doesn’t trust it and will not leave the deck. There are some really long icicles on the eaves. One is 4′ long.
We also got the Sunday Times. Yesterday, of course, no papers made it to the island.
