I heard those depressing, Monday morning words from Steve Inskeep again on the way into work – “Cokie Roberts joins us….” Bleh. She shared her “wisdom” with us on the whole sequester thingie, and whether or not it’s a big deal. Well, Cokie, where I work, it means over $7.2 million dollars gets cut out of an already stretched, cut, stretched again, and cut some more budget. Hopefully I’ll still have a job when all is said and done, because I think I’d have to sell my house (and my dogs) if things go in the crapper.
Worse than having to listen to Cokie, though, was that I had to listen to her while I was the third car in line behind a snow plow (note, it wasn’t snowing) that was going 35 mph (downhill – 30 up) for a substantial portion of my drive in.
It took the two idiots ahead of me almost 8 miles to finally make a move and pass (at which point, about eight of us made a break for it). Annoying. What was it George Carlin said? “Anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anybody going faster is a maniac.”
Except I think they’re pretty much all idiots. If they aren’t idiots while driving, they immediately turn into idiots when they step foot inside a grocery store. But don’t get me started.
If I lived in an area where a giant sinkhole could – suddenly and without warning – open up and suck my bedroom in while I was sleeping, I’d have even more difficulty sleeping than I do already. I mean, the bugs down there in Florida are bad enough, but, shit. I think maybe Ross Perot was wrong about where they giant sucking sound was coming from.
Oh well, time to get back to that giant suck hole known as work.
Usually I manage to drift back to sleep during Cokie but this morning I was straight up awake for the 3 AM b’cast. Even at that, I couldn’t remember a thing she said although she seems like she might be a go-to girl on the popey-changey thing. Even though I am tired of the whole affair already, I could listen to Sylvia Poggioli read the phone book.
Having not completed the entire 2 hours of ME, I came downstairs to catch some of the Morning Jerk. The Scar kept on ridiculing the ‘Sequester’ as not that big of a deal and the sky wasn’t falling like O’Bama had predicted and, hey, cons, the military could use a good trimming which wasn’t going to happen anyway. Mika tried to fight back to some degree saying it was really going to hurt a lot of regular people but the pressure to do something about it might because it isn’t going to kick in right away and is so widely spread through the gubment. One first fun fact is that the federal employees have to get 30 days notice before losing any time so they will still be on the job full force until April. That when you will see services decline, and just in time for taxes. I imagine SU will get hit by the same funding cuts like our UCSF Medical School. I was making some headway at getting a job there several years ago until the anti-tax repugs pulled the same thing on this state that their doing now. The school had a big hiring freeze and even temp workers were cut. For now there is a real Dem governor and legislature with a working majority, they have finally raised revenues and things were looking better. Now, as is usually the case, these cuts will just trickle down to the state and local level where they can mete out some real pain that not many congress critters or grovers will feel. Federal funding cuts to hits state hard I guess one can only hope the FAA and TSA reductions will make their trips home more inconvenient. It sounds like a lot of smaller airports might get closed as well making it harder for them to get back to Dumbfuckistan. I think a lot of their tax-hatin’, teabaggin’ supporters might be in for a surprise or two.
I just listened the Hag again to see why I couldn’t remember anything. I guess it was because she lacked any single original idea. Her repetition of the CW is astonishingly predictable. She said a lot of what the Scar said and then some of what Mika tried to counter with. Cokie on all sides of the fence?
:omg: :barf:

“Anti-Piracy Alert System” about to kick in.
Depending on your ISP, you will get six “warning” notices if you access verboten IP addresses, or they might start slowing down and/or cutting off your Internet access.
Beware – Big Brother is watching you.
Listening to Cokie the-whore breathlessly describe popey “Vlad the Impaler” Benedict’s last day in his lair I thought I detected a small puddle of moisture pooling under my car speakers :jerk:
