Glad to see that OKat and family are okay. The pictures and video from Oklahoma City are just incredible. I’m really glad we don’t get that kind of thing around here. An occasional small tornado isn’t totally unheard of around these parts, but they’re extremely rare. Too many hills around to break them up, I guess. I hope Oklahoma gets a break from these tornadoes, but as we experience the effects of climate change, I’m afraid this stuff is just gonna get more frequent. It’ll be interesting to see what Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn push for to “offset” any disaster relief funding that goes to OKC. Maybe they can eliminate the Global Change Research Program.
I traded with somebody so that I’d work from home yesterday and my late day would be today. That was really nice yesterday. Today, not so much. The only good thing is that I really didn’t want to get out of bed this morning, so I guess going in late isn’t so bad. Having to work until five sucks, though.
But I guess I better start getting ready.
They used to tell us we could never have tornadoes in West Virginia because of the mountains but they have. Of course, the double whammy of the coal industry blowing the tops off of while helping contribute mightily to climate change. They also told us there would never be earthquakes in NYC because it was built on solid rock but that isn’t true either. I don’t think it is because of fracking like some but earthquakes aren’t just for California any more.
Meanwhile someone on FB has accused me of being like Pat Robertson for saying essentially the same things said here about Coburn and Imhofe and climate change denial.
:smack:
I believe that some smaller quakes have been tied to fracking.
Oh, I agree. I just meant not in Manhattan. All of those states buying into America’s new energy bonanza could be shaking like a leaf in the future.

Coburn wants offsets. Inhofe, who called FEMA relief for Sandy a slush fund, says OK is totally different than Sandy and no offsets are needed. Lord, I despise these Rethugs.
I think he was referring to ‘pork’ money that was spent on the (US) Virgin Islands and DC, both of which are actually part of the USA and were also affected by Sandy. It was like that with Irene. Because it didn’t live up to the hype in DC and NYC, it just became a big media whew although it did tremendous damage both north and south of those media capitals.
Inhofe was on tv this a.m. painfully trying to say this tornado was nothing special, just like the big one in 1999. Because we of course can’t have ANY severe climate occurring. He is dumber than a mud fence post and everyone knows it. He’s bought and paid for fer sure. I called his office before and found his staff to be every bit as intellectually challenged. Don’t think Coburn has cut his own salary nor do I believe his staff has been put on furloughs. Absolutely can NOT STAND those two ne’er do wells. :blech:
I think the whole OK tornado thing was staged by Apple as a distraction from Tim Cook’s Senate testimony today. (Hey, it makes as much sense as some of the :tinfoil: I’ve been seeing.)
My guess is that Obama did it to divert attention from all of his “scandals.”
God didn’t do it? But,but, but…gay marriage.
