It’s hard to get excited about the weekend when you know it’s bringing us one step closer to the end of Morning Sedition on Air America. But that doesn’t mean it has to be the end of the Morning Seditonists. Blog your weekend away here, and don’t forget to check out our forums.
Weekend thread. Has DG offered any reasons for his decision to cancell Morning Sedition?
AS far as I know, Goldberg hasn’t said anything, but if you haven’t seen it already, this post by MS’s original producer Jonathan Larsen should give you a pretty good idea.
Nice to see the Weekend Thread. Thanks Patrick. Much more user friendly comments block!
I reaad Larsen’s article. DG did not like Morning Sedition. Pure and simple. The excuse was that the show was not holding its own in NYC, But ad Larsen mentions in his post, that was not the case. Howard Stern has the dominant radio show in NYC. But, as Larsen points out, Morning Sedition was taking listeners from Stern’s show–as it is doing in Portland. Furthermore, there will be quite a vacuum to fill when Stern goes to Sirius on January 1. Who better to fill the void? But oh no. Morning Sedition will be gone by then. My conclusion is that DG is a mindless jerk.
somewhere I saw
DG =f-ing moron
but really…
DG =f-ing Maron
Thanks for the Jonathon Larsen article posting. Interesting how he describes and I totally agree with his description of
Maron’s brilliance. It is unmatched and he is truly a gem, but obviously Danny Goldberg never had a clue. I met Jonathon
a couple of times at the public shows and his humanity, intelligence, and competence was always obvious with how he managed
these challenging in-person shows.
I enjoy Rachel and Riley, but think he shifted Riley to the least desirable spot and put Rachel in the 7-9 because it sounds
like DG wants people to think he is an intellectual like Rachel and he thinks by putting Rachel there that it makes him look
smarter. Guess no one told DG that just because you hang out with the smart kids doesn’t make you smart especially if the
gang is laughing behind your back.
What’s with the “select your favorite skits from the MS show?” Sounds to me like an emotional bribe to keep everyone coming
back. Soothe everyone with all the oldies but goodies and maybe they will not notice that the real MS is gone?? And the
best part of MS – Marc Maron – is gone. My intention is to go back to sleeping until 8:30 and skipping the morning shows.
MS was the first and the last I will be married to without MM. As I said, I like Riley and Maddow and will tune in
occasionally, but neither is an entertainer and a radio show without some fine-tuned, off beat humor is just noise. I can
find the news myself in a paper or online and read. What I can’t replace is Marc’s brilliant, funny, wacky, vulnerable, and
insightful humor.
I fully expect Marc to find himself in a better position from all this and someone else just waiting to pick him up. Jon
Stewart would be a great place. In my mind he has the entertaining brilliance of Robin Williams, John Leguiazmo, etc.
who can appear successfully in many different venues. Can’t wait to see where he lands and too bad for our loss.
MM rocks
DG sucks
My thoughts towards DG — Good going Danny Goldberg. Wonder how it feels to know so many think you have truly bad judgment
and you are not capable of a wise decision or not competent to see brilliance when it is right in front of you. I would
not be surprised if your days at AAR are numbered with such foolish and unwise decision-making! Don’t let the door hit ya
where the good Lord split ya!
Secretary of Defense – Joe Lieberman?
On this morning’s Face the Nation, host Bob Schieffer said:
😯
My personal opinion is that Lieberman is a man without a party. The right is patronizing him like Zell Miller. They will use him to show they work with “democrats” and that they are only at odds with the “Michael Moore” crazies of the Left wing Demos. They will discard Lieberman as soon as he is used up.
Just my opinion.
I think the Republicans can have Lieberman; he’s no Democrat.
I really hope the Connecticut Republicans can get Lowell Weicker to oppose him next time around, and I hope MoveOn backs Weicker.
Weicker showed a lot of strength in the Watergate hearings, and showed what a real, honest Republican can be (or at least was).
I’ll take a true Republican over a fake Democrat any day.
Danny-pants gave a reason. He just couldn’t convince most of us. He said he’s replacing MS because there’s a mid-term election coming up and liberals can’t afford to let the all-important morning drive period go without making it hard-hitting.
Sounds like what cows do in the meadow to me. And I don’t mean chew cud, although it is something that sounds like cud…
I have to tell you, I hated Lieberman the minute Gore named him veep candidate. When he explained about all the bells and whistles necessary for an orthodox Jew to hold such a time -consuming post as veep I realized that the man is a liar. He could have just told the truth, that he’s not so orthodox that it would stand in his way, but that if he were, here are the options he would have had. No, he had to pose as something he’s not because he thought it would make him more acceptable to the religious right. WHAT A CREEP!
End of rant. I don’t practice Judaism anymore anyway. I got damned good at it and decided to practice something else…
Good post, gypsy.
Anyway, I was wasting time googling, and came across a message board that had people posting, as they were waiting for KPOJ to switch from Moldy Oldies to Air America. I remember seeing Franken and Garafalo talking about Air America on cable, but I was not aware that Portland was on the list of first day affiliates. Does anybody know who Michael D is? This person seemed to be aware of the change. I wonder if he became a regular AAR blogger. (lisadawn82, too.)
(Here is a part of the thread from 3-31-04)
‘Super 62’ Signoff (none / 0)
In Portland, the station being taken over, KPOJ 620 “Super 62,” has been playing a very, very diverse playlist of oldies — most of which haven’t been heard since they originally charted — for a little less than a year. The host of the morning show, Tom Murphy, used to be a DJ at a very popular station several decades ago. The DJ just read a warm goodbye, read his last “Murphy’s Law” (the same as the first “Murphy’s Law” he ever read), and played “Mack the Knife.”

In his post, Larsen briefly mentioned that Morning Sedition’s ratings were up and down–but basically good. But no details. Are these details about MS’s ratings available?
I don’t know much about ratings, but I’ve heard that the Arbitron ratings are for subcribers, and are pretty expensive. I don’t know if there are rules prohibiting subscribers from publishing info, or if it’s something that they just don’t do, but I’ve never been able to find any “hard” numbers anywhere.
