I actually got a good night’s sleep last night, as opposed to the night before when my foot hurt so bad all night long, all I could do was lay there with my earbuds in listening to old time radio and trying not squirm around too much and keep my wife awake. I attribute last night to the fact that I spent most of the day (and the evening) soaking my foot in ice water. In fact, I have it in ice water right now. If it doesn’t actually help, it at least numbs the shit out of it – and that’s good enough at this point.
So, as you may have seen on the news (or experienced for yourself) the cold weather finally arrived on the East Coast. I think the high yesterday was 8° here. It wasn’t so much the cold, though, as it was the wind. It was a constant 40 mph or something. Fortunately for us, is was blowing directly from west to east, which means we got almost no snow. For the folks to the east of Lake Ontario, though, they got like three feet of snow in addition to the cold and wind. Sucks to be them.
It’s still in the single digits here this morning, but it’s supposed to get all the way up to 18, so that will feel nice and warm. Not that I’ll see any of it, since today is my late day and by the time I get home it’ll be darker than a, well, something dark (I’d say a well-digger’s ass, but that would be crude plus I think the expression is actually “colder than a well-digger’s ass,” which it will also be by the time I get home).
Today is Governor Snotball’s State of the State address (or whatever he calls it). My wife is actually attending (there’s some bus going or something), and she’s going to attend next week’s lobbying day in Albany, where our State representatives (or, more likely, their bored staff members) pretend to listen to and give a shit about what We the People have to say (unless accompanied by a wheelbarrow full of cash, I somehow doubt they’ll be doing a lot of listening, let alone caring). But I’m just a cynical old bastid, so good for her and everybody else that’s going.
I guess I’d better pull my foot out of this ice water and get ready for work. Stay warm out there.
It’s a balmy 23 in the sun. Even Lola thinks it’s too chilly to lie on the porch and keep a watchful eye out for that bad squirrel. Of course Palemale and friends are facing the cold, too and fortunately Lincoln and his cameras are there to take their photos:

Today they will also name the Baseball HoF class of 2014. My votes would be for Bonds and Rose but my ballot must have been intercepted by the NSA.
Slept in a little this morning but turning on MSNBC I discover that new host Ronan
SinatraFarrow is a Hil-bot. Interesting. I had a long talk last night with a friend about racist relatives and he was wondering what the alternative to Hilary was because she couldn’t win.:omg:
I was upset because some younger relatives were making denigrating comments about some of the players at Florida State and earlier about what I thought was a great national anthem at the Rose Bowl.
My aunt, the only family member with a little wisdom, told me that all families are crazy, some just cover it up better than others. She also told me that babies are cute because if they weren’t nobody would put up with them.
That was an amazing game to watch. My understanding is that AJ McCarron’s momma got the hate tweets going. Nice role model.
Speaking of role models, Barry deserves to be inducted. Drugs schmugs – they almost all did it during that era. Let in Sosa, McGuire, Clemens etc. There will always be a * by their names and who are we to get moralistic about the game we supported and cheered while they swatted the ball to new heights?
But Rose, I’m not so sure. Gambling on the game was the one written rule labeled verboten. :tommygun:
(shooting at gambling not the player!)
My Giants buddy in OBX-NC made that same point this morning. Rose is banned and they consequently banned the banned from the HoF. Otherwise the HoF is in the hands of too many self-righteous sports scribes who probably couldn’t survive scrutiny and the hand of the sleazeball used car salesman from Milwaukee who presided over the PED era is also in the mix.
Damn, has it been 199 years already? Seems like yesterday.

I went to Albany with 2000+ of my closest friends today to tell Gov. Snotball to FRACK OFF  The Gov had a “free speech” zone set up to pen us in at the entrance to the speech site. Signs were draped over the fences and taped to the fences and there were numerous mini marches around the outside of the fencing with lots of chanting and noise. We were told that musical instruments and noisemakers were not allowed (like you could really hear any kind of instrument with all those people hollering at the Gov to BAN FRACKING NOW!).
The Onondaga Nation and Two Row Wampum Campaign folks were there as well as some of the Haudenosaunee Singers who had drums with them (verboten contraband) and played them and sang. None of the numerous State Troopers policing the event dared to mess with them, though, lest they spark an international incident and none of the Smokeys even asked them to stop. I thought that was pretty interesting because they tried to bully one of our local activist singers into giving up her ukulele, which no one could hear because of all the noise — it was pretty ridiculous. Not only did we not stay within the confines of the “free speech” cage, there was a constant flow of people walking & hollering outside the cage and there were way more of us than there were Troopers. I also found it interesting that most of the Capitol Troopers there were really short (I mean, not a whole lot taller than me and I’m only 5’0″) and while there were a lot of them, there were WAY more of us and it’s our Capitol, Dammit!! The Troopers were not too aggressive or mean, unlike some of the NYC cops I’ve seen in some of the actions I’ve been to.
I do hope Gov Snotball didn’t have his earplugs in because my 2000+ friends and I were hollering loud enough for the whole Capitol building to hear. Some media coverage is now showing up about it.
Mama Don’t Allow No Hydrofracking Round Here
One of my physician colleagues says that Cuomo’s medical pot plan will produce “a bunch of stupid stoners” I contend that the medical school he went to certainly produced at least one really stupid doctor. The arrogant docs like this guy who would not hesitate to gork his patients out with whatever drug-du-jour his Big Pharma hot female drug rep is selling him does not give a :crap: about the unfortunate human beings who end up being treated (badly) by him.
He’s part of the “best health care system in the world”

Amen!
:fist: Granny!!
I’d noticed the number of comments on Huffpo was down. So there is a reason…

Perfect!
You gotta admit, that uniform looks natural on him.
Though Schultz was a much nicer guy – owner of the Shatze Toy Factory before the war..
