I know this is a highly overused phrase, but thank god it’s Friday. All I can think about is getting through this godawful day, and getting home again. I have so far refused to pay attention to yesterday’s caucuses, but I suppose I ought to go take a look and see who the big winner was. Or maybe I should just call in sick and go back to sleep.
I have to admit, I don’t get this whole caucus thing. Obama is the “big” winner, and Hillary came in third. But, according to this, Obama winds up with 16 delegates, Clinton 15, and Edwards 14.
So, I think this is all about what the traditional media decides it’s all about.
I don’t get the dispurportionate delegate thing either but looking at the state delegate numbers you’ve got to figure that things will hash out at the Iowa state convention where Edwards will throw his delegates probably to Obama (can’t see them going to Clinton) if he’s out of it by then (which I expect he will be).
Spot on, pj. The caucus is nothing but a beauty contest. (And an opportunity for Bree Walker to let us know how much she enjoys pronouncing the word CAUCUS.)
Not that there’s a chance in hell (so to speak) that I would ever vote for him, but kudos to Fuckabee for spanking Willard sore in his magic underpants. As much as I despise all of the Repig candidates, Willard is possibly most despised because he thinks he can buy the presidency. FUCK HIM. And his magic underpants.
:fu:
Well, plus there are like 2.5 million registered voters in all of Iowa. There are probably close to twice that in NYC alone. So why do I have to give a shit about what these people think? Or New Hampshire? Other than a bunch of white people out in the corn fields voting for a black guy is pretty interesting.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens when we hit South Carolina.
So, what is really the score if the delegates break down 16-15-14? Did Obama win big? Did Clinton lose big? Can either win a general election?
It’s all about the framing and perceived ‘joementum’ by the m$m.
:joe: :joe: :joe: :joe: :joe: :joe: 😮 😮 :yuck: :crap: :paranoid: :paranoid: :paranoid: 😯 😯

Well New Hampshire’s primary is next Tuesday can’t you just wait ?? :reaper: :reaper:
I think what it really means is that it’ll be easier for Obama to raise money. The traditional media had already decided that if Edwards didn’t win by a large margin, he was dead, and so now they are asking “how long can Edwards stay in.” Conventional wisdom at this point has NH going for McCain, which may be bad news for Romney. After NH, you have Michigan, Nevada, and then SC and Florida, before February 5th, which is probably what will put somebody over the top. Seems to me that it all depends on what the traditional media tells us to think.
I have no comment on this story.
I think all his Iowa caucus thing showed was that the Iowa Democrats were pretty uniformly divided among the three candidates and that the rethugs love Huckaturd and said Rudy and Mit who ?? 😮 😮 😯 😯
Now that Chris Dodd is done in the Presidential race we need to convince him it is in the best interest of the party and the nation he wrest the Senate Majority Leadership position from Harry nd the appeaser faction of the Democratic Party. I still haven’t figured out who to replace Nancy Pelosi with.
DK on Bill Moyers tonight. Check your local listings here.
Iowa also showed that the guy with the most money to spend doesn’t necessarily ( as apposed to the conventional wisdom from the M$M) win…. To the M$M spending money is what all these primaries are about.. ( ONK ONK squeal squeal) :reaper: :reaper:
Maybe we could get that IBM supercomputer that plays chess to replace both Ploser and Harry Dweeb… of course most of it was probably made in China. :tap: :tap:
re:14- I think there’s a good candidate to replace Pelosi here in christolrado- Dianne DiGette. A rock-solid big D dem who was one of only nine congreespeople to vote against the absurd “We support christmas and christians” handjob a couple of weeks ago. :yuck: :barf:
One has to wonder why the members of the house and senate elected Nancy Ploser and Harry Dweeb in the first place.. Do they have better stuff at their parties or what ??
Have you ever looked at the Democrats in the House and the Senate? Believe it or not, they aren’t all Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy.
Women and gay men are likely to be the worst drivers, a new study has shown.
First, they didn’t test driving skills, they extrapolated from a study of spatial perceptions.
Second, they haven’t watched men drive. I would like to send them free rides in NYC taxis and I will specify that the cabby be heterosexual.
From money.cnn.com
U.S. payrolls up an anemic 18,000 in December, unemployment rises to 5%.
Add to that the 85,000 jobs created in November coupled with a 0.8% monthly inflation rate and we have a recession in progress. It takes ~115,000 new jobs a month just to break even.
Hopefully the next administration will tell the people the truth. The latest official word is everything is rosy. Meanwhile some OPEC members are saying crude oil prices are climbing mainly becuase the dollar is at historic lows, driving world-wide inflation rates.
Ooh, unemployment went to 5 % from 4.7% and only 18,000 jobs were created. Not good news for the Rethugs!
the worst drivers
Maybe what they need is a DVD player to calm them down. Yeah, that’s the ticket. Maybe a drink dispenser in the dash. Maybe a sunroof so they can catch some rays and increase their vitamin D production…
Rush Limprick said last night that he was not supporting Huckabee and then quickly launched into a tirade about how the MSM was only talking about Huckabee and wouldn’t mention Obama.
Darn, I missed Rush’s show last night.
With his “late state strategy” slowly imploding, Rudy Giuliani now plans to campaign full-time from this Friday through next Tuesday’s primary in a last ditch drive for a face-saving showing in New Hampshire, where his chances of winning have inexorably eroded over the past four months.
Odds are overwhelming that a Giuliani victory in New Hampshire is beyond reach – he is running 18.8 points behind Mitt Romney and 21.3 points behind John McCain, according to RealClearPolitics.
But even worse for the New York Mayor is the fact that his once-promising chances in Michigan on January 15 and in South Carolina on January19 have turned into long shots — and even in Florida, whose primary is on January 29, Giuliani’s numbers are declining.

And while the caucus thingie was going on, GOP contender John McCain, who about tied for third among Republicans in Iowa, had something quite startling to say about Iraq while campaigning in New Hampshire today. He interrupted someone recalling that President Bush envisions U.S. forces in Iraq for 50 more years with, “Maybe a hundred [years].†He continued, “That’s fine with me, I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-Qaeda is training and equipping and recruiting and motivating people every single day.†Video below. Notice that “Independent Democrat†Sen. Joe Lieberman is standing behind him.

The Bush administration is restricting the ability of states to expand eligibility for Medicaid, part of an effort to prevent them from offering coverage to families of modest income who, the administration argues, may have access to private health insurance.
more stories like this
The restrictions mirror those the administration placed on the Children’s Health Insurance Program in August after states tried to broaden eligibility for it, as well.
Until now, states had generally been free to set their own Medicaid eligibility criteria, and the Bush administration had not openly declared that it would apply the August directive to Medicaid. State officials in Louisiana, Ohio, and Oklahoma said they had discovered the administration’s intent in negotiations with the federal government.

A federal judge yesterday severely limited the Navy’s ability to use mid-frequency sonar on a training range off the Southern California coast, ruling that the loud sounds would harm whales and other marine mammals if not tightly controlled.
snip
In particular, Cooper banned the use of the sonar within 12 nautical miles of the California coast, expanded from 1,100 yards to 2,200 yards the Navy’s proposed “shut down” zone in which sonar must be turned off whenever a marine mammal is spotted, required monitoring for the presence of animals for one hour before exercises involving sonar begin, and required that two National Marine Fisheries Service-trained lookouts be posted for monitoring during exercises. The judge also forbade sonar use in the Catalina Basin, an area with many marine mammals.

Yeah, it astounds me that I can buy a 5 litre box of wine for about the same price as a six pack of my favorite beer.
But, as they say, life is too short to drink cheap beer. Life is not, however, too short to drink cheap wine.
Stock markets reacted to 18,000 new jobs. DOW down 159 points.
Yeah, I saw Bush’s war on the poor is escalating. Think he will win that one since the poor don’t have any way of fighting back.
Hey, that USA Today article says US adults drank 30 gallons of beer each in 2006. That’s less than 14 cases of beer for an entire year! Clearly, some of you out there aren’t doing your part. If you can’t manage at least a case a week, you’re really not trying hard enough. I mean, I’m trying to pull your weight, but it’s really kinda killing me here.
Larry Kudlow says everything is fine, all we need to do is give the corporations another tax cut.
Corporate tax breaks. That’s all we need, another incentive for corporations to send more jobs overseas.
I’m sure Obama will be able to sit down with the major corporations and negotiate a deal fair to all.

Gee, seems a lot of these Republicans don’t like the Huckster. They call him a socialist (and worse). Unless Night of the Living Fred makes a remarkable comeback from his coma, I guess St. McCain will have to be their savior.
Sadly, No! has this from VodkaPundit (who looks like an anorexic fella with a pretty wide stance, if you ask me).
He also trashes Jimmy Carter, both as a President and as an ex-President.
Rudy, clever fellow, managed one more time to tie 9/11 to whatever he is doing:
The former New York City mayor said he’s not concerned about his recent slides in polls here and in Florida, where he later campaigned in the afternoon.
“On Sept. 11, I was worried,” he said. “The way I approach politics, you don’t worry about these things; you deal with them. “

Wasn’t 911 Rudy’s vote total in the Iowa caucus?

The vet put a less restrictive bandage on Minnie, yesterday, and the new found mobility allowed her to run around the backyard. The result of this was that her paw swelled a lot.
I called the vet this morning and she gave us detailed instructions about bandaging the paw.
And, really nice vet and person that she is, she called me this evening to see how Minnie was doing and to tell me to call her any time I need to.

When the unemployment numbers the administration routinely extracts from it ass actually go up they must either have screwed up or they are signaling the IDIOT MORONs that invest in Wall Street that the water has breached the water tight doors on deck D and it is now time to proceed to the boat deck…and…. prepare to abandon ship :reaper: :reaper:
Sue P .. I don’t think you have ever mentioned how old Mini is ?? I know people who have actually had hip replacements on their dogs even though they were over 10 years old.
