I haven’t got anything much to say this morning. Still trying to figure out who I’m supposed to hope wins the Democratic nomination. I guess to a large extent, I don’t much care. I can always say, “don’t blame me, I voted for Edwards.” Never mind who I think would actually be a better president amongst the “other two.” I have a hard time believing that Hillary could win. The Republicans despise her, and the Democrats who don’t love her, hate her, too. My mother-in-law still hates her for the cookie baking remark. I’m sure there are a lot of racists who would never vote for Obama, but he seems to be pretty non-threatening to most of white America, so I reckon he’s probably a safer bet than Hillary. I just hope all these people who keep expressing their confidence that he’ll “change” everything are right (whatever they mean, exactly, by that).
Oh well, who really cares? I’ll let the media (and Kos, of course) tell me what I’m supposed to think. It’s easier that way.

so two of the last four idiots are all but gone.
Now Walnuts and Willard can beat each other up for the next few weeks and make the Dems look sort of presidential. If the Dems will let them. Which is not a given.
(Note to Hillary: You didn’t win Florida. You can’t win an uncontested contest. But claim it all you want if it makes you feel better. Whatever.)

Rudy’s gone. Judi’s gone with him. We’ll be spared the smile he had to practice for months before he campaigned. But, he’ll probably come back to New York. I wonder where he’ll take his next “love” interest now that the command center is gone.

According to a lady that called into either Heartman or Fat Heady yesterday the reason the dem vote in Florida didn’t count was because the thug legislature in Florida determines the date of the primaries ..but… Why was it that Howy Dean decided that these early primaries in Florida and Michigan should not count ?? .. What percentage of the total vote have we decided so far ??? Most of these states that have had caucus and primaries so far have not been for squat in terms of population . :reaper: :reaper:
According to MSNBC via deap Modem mom at DU just a few moments ago John Edwards is dropping ot of the race … He couldn’t wait until super Tuesday was over with ?? :reaper: :reaper:
By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer
DENVER – Democrat John Edwards is exiting the presidential race Wednesday, ending a scrappy underdog bid in which he steered his rivals toward progressive ideals while grappling with family hardship that roused voter’s sympathies but never diverted his campaign, The Associated Press has learned.
The two-time White House candidate notified a close circle of senior advisers that he planned to make the announcement at a 1 p.m. EST event in New Orleans that had been billed as a speech on poverty, according to two of his advisers. The decision came after Edwards lost the four states to hold nominating contests so far to rivals who stole the spotlight from the beginning — Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP’s earlier story is below.

==============================
The IDIOT MORONs have once again spoken ..
I hereby bestow my kiss of failure to Obama. My suspicion is that this is a stop HRC move to give BHO a chance to win Tuesday and perhaps Cali. Glad that I did not mark up my absentee yet but bet many did.
There was some speculation that Bloomturd would enter the thug race with Romturd as his VP or visa versa … They would then have hundreds of million of their own money to spend on TV adds for the IDIOT MORONS to watch .. :yuck: :barf: :crap:
I just heardform the BBC that Edwards is formally withdrawing at 1:00 PM today. I am just sick about this.
I doubt that Hillary would go for a ticket with her as VP with Obama :reaper: :reaper:
At this point I can’t see either of those two VPing for the otherr and probably Edwards either but I thought Edwards would last another week, too. Obama should tap him for AG.
At least Edwards may be withdrawing in NOLa. 🙁
So we’re now stuck with nothing but rethugs for president. Fuck this sucks!!
Moyer’s interviews KO here.
I thought for sure Edwards would got through SD Tuesday. I thought he was going to fight.
damn it just dropped in to post the edwards thing should have known i wasnt gonna get the drop on the blog 😛 anyway getting stitches out today and i find out what the deal is with the weight i lost on my hip
now the question is who will edwards endorse………
and why the hell is old as dirt mccain getting the nomination?
Shit. This sucks. I hope Elizabeth is OK.
AG, maybe. But Secretary of Health and Human Services might not be a bad choice, either. Maybe Labor Secretary, too, since Edwards is the most pro-labor person out there (which is why it’s a shame that many of the unions blew him off; I guess they’re afraid to back anybody who might not win, no matter who the best choice is).
I’m still voting for him on Tuesday, I don’t give a shit.
so do we think this benefits hillary or obama?
I hope Hill hit Edwards up, since if Obama hasn’t he should have — unless
GORE hit him up for VP  …
Edwards to VP for HILL * but i thought yuck :yuck: if Edwards & Obana… :fist: A!I!V! I think I have The Curse like PJ Teased for anyone I liked 🙄
I don’t think Edwards would want to run for VP again. Not that I have any inside info on that. Just doesn’t seem like taking time away from Elizabeth and the kids would be worth it unless he could really do some good, and the VP’s job description is to do whatever POTUS tells him to do. That could mean being pretty hamstrung.
Is there a VP candidate Obama could tap to give him ‘experience’ and gravitas like cheney :omg: gave bush? Even a co-president type? My pal says he should go with Wesley Clark.
Since under our “system” the candidate gets to keep any unused campaign funds they have raised dropping out before you have to pay out huge sums to advertise in 20 some markets at the same time might be called conservation of the cash.. :reaper: :reaper:
Clark might not be a bad choice, but he’s a big Hillary supporter, so that might not fly. Maybe Richardson, but I don’t know that two brown people can get elected. Jim Webb might be an interesting choice. Gives you a southern connection, and somebody with military cred.
Wes Clark is to much of a cold war politician for me.. I doubt that you are going to do nada, nothing zip to radical Islam other than multiply their numbers by dropping conventional explosives on them or by nuking them. We need to stop our imperialism before the Chinese and/or the Russians see a need to stop our imperiualism ( isert emo of bright flash here) :reaper: :reaper:
Webb could be good if VA is strong enough to replace him w/ a good senator. It will be tough enough to turn Warner to a ‘D’. I am thinking of someone who could really help run things. I don’t know that WJC let Gore do that. Gore would be the best. Work down from there.
He’s back :reaper: :reaper: :reaper:
Live webcast of Obama’s speech at the University of Denver
Quantify that lie!
Good candidate for veep – Bill Richardson.
He’s back? That buffon is still alive? Why?
I hope tthat Obama’s campaign music isn’t an indicator of the content of his administration. :yuck: :crap: :paranoid: :paranoid:
To the typical DU graduate “Change we can Believe in” means that the value of the dollar ( preferably in $100 bills) will go back up.. Remember this is the same school Condie graduated from.. :reaper: :reaper:
If Leo McGarry was still alive, I’d say go for him.
I don’t know that you really need somebody to run things for an Obama the way you did for Bush, ala Cheney. Bush is just too ignorant and uninterested to do much of anything, so the neocons (who, remember, wanted McCain, not Bush) were able to install Cheney to run everything and foist their vision of the new world order upon us.
With Obama (hopefully), it will be more a matter of installing a top-notch, qualified staff and cabinet, for which Obama will set the priorities and overall direction (and I hope it’s the direction we all want, though I’m not convinced yet). Hopefully he would have the judgment to take good advice from all perspectives and make the right decisions.
He’ll need a staff that knows how to get things through Congress (where’s LBJ when you need him?), and hopefully not give everything away for the sake of ‘unity.’ I think they’ll chew him pretty good, at least for a while, until the new administration feels its way around.
First, of course, he’ll need to get the nomination (don’t underestimate the Clinton machine), and then win the election. I’m sure that CW says he needs a conservative cracker to help assuage the fears of the white folks. I don’t think you’ll see him run with Cynthia McKinney. It will have to be somebody who is willing to wait eight years to run – or who has no presidential ambitions at all. And probably not somebody who would outshine Obama. What’s Dan Quayle up to these days?
So Tuesday I have to choose between Obama and Clinton. Bummer. What if Obama chooses Jim Webb for VP?
Had BEAUTIFUL surprise outside this chilly morning. A pair of Merganser Hooded Ducks. Oh they were so fun to watch on the little pond! http://tinyurl.com/y76gz4
(hey! I forgot how to do links. man, :tap: )
Well, Edwards suspended his campaign which, according to Donna Brazille (sp?) means that he is still looking to accumilate delegates for the convention.
Meanwhile, RudiJudi said he is proud to have run a positive campaign of ideas. I had no idea that 9/11 is an idea.
But, I do have a regret. No one ever showed the tape of his press conference at which he announced his divorce from wife #2. I’ve searched for a video but I can’t find one.
President Bush this week declared that he has the power to bypass four laws, including a prohibition against using federal funds to establish permanent US military bases in Iraq, that Congress passed as part of a new defense bill.
Bush made the assertion in a signing statement that he issued late Monday after signing the National Defense Authorization Act for 2008. In the signing statement, Bush asserted that four sections of the bill unconstitutionally infringe on his powers, and so the executive branch is not bound to obey them.
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2008/01/30/bush_asserts_authority_to_bypass_defense_act/
What a cost saver the Shrub is. We don’t need those supreme court jjudges and their demands for higher salaries. Bush will decide what’s constitutional and he doesn’t need a raise, he’ll just loot the treasury with no bid contracts.
I keep waiting for those checks and balances that Ms Rant has babbled about for the last three years to kick in.. I would almost bet that with a dem as presidork you will see them work a lot more often .. mostly not to our benefit. :reaper: :reaper:
See now, I read that ‘suspending’ the campaign was just a technical thing so that he could pay bills and staff, and take care of the general housekeeping type stuff. But I must defer to Donna Brazile, mastermind of the Gore 2000 campaign.
Nice to see Edwards getting some media attention, though. 🙄
Speaking of Edwards, some nice video clips over at TPM.
I really am not sure if I should be posting this and I really wish it might be wrong but I just got a message that Susan Joy passed away yesterday. I don’t know what else to say.
🙁 :menorah: 🙁 :gate: :menorah: 🙁
God, Vernon, that’s terrible news.
Hillary Clinton: The New Nixon?
I’m in Las vegas, at yet another stiflingly full-of-shit Democratic debate, just breaking up now. The show tonight was a new low, with a suddenly cuddlesome troika of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards spending two hours giving each other friendly establishment back rubs while NBC played the Big Brother role, going to court to keep that meddling Dennis Kucinich off the stage. Afterward, the first flack to waddle into the spin cave is Mark Penn, Clinton’s chief mouthpiece, one of Washington’s most depraved and expensive lobbyist-whores.
I just got a message that Susan Joy passed away yesterday
Geez, that’s awful.
 Susan Joy 🙁 :cake: :yinyang: :om: :menorah: :pent: /|\ :gate:
:menorah: :menorah: 😥
I’m sad that someone in a tiny special community has passed on. If someone is so moved, maybe there could be a short virtual rememberance of a spirit with such a light-bearing name as Susan Joy. I’m afraid I’m late in getting to know as much as one can know a spirit :om: :menorah:
That’s terrible news. Susan Joy was a young woman. What happened? I am so very sorry. 🙁
My take on the election isn’t very good. If Clinton wins the nomination McCain is the next president. Too many people hate her for various reasons.
If Obama wins the election it is a tossup. But the campaign should be downright nasty.
Regardless who wins the Democratic nomination the rethug already has 25 electoral votes. Florida won’t vote for a Dem after being dis-enfranchised in the convention delegate squabble.
By the time the voting gets to Virginia it will already be meaningless. I don’t want any of the five still running anywhere near DC. I think it sucks that three or four states with no significant part to play in the general election determine who the parties’ candidates will be. Come this fall will anyone campaign in IA, NH or SC? Nope. They will be in CA, NY and IL.
Gee, NC, you managed to make me feel even worse than I do already.
It is gonna be a tough year but I think things are so bad that even if we get stuck with a Negro or a dame as a candidate, we might still have enough room to sneak one through. The chick is pretty tough and the Black guy is pretty smart so either one might eek through regardless. There is a war no one likes and an economy on a fast track to hell and neither situation shows signs of improvement.
As for Susan Joy, it was cancer that had been a problem for a while but I think she really did not let many folks know. I don’t know a lot more so I will just leave it at that. Very sad.
🙁 :menorah: :sdavid: :gate:
I just got back. I Love Susan Joy I am looking for your wee short story Susan right now. :yinyang: :menorah: :pent: and I have been standing in filling her shoes writing for what she cared for ….just until she returned yet 🙁 now she is /|\ :menorah: :pent: FLYING :knit: /|\ and growing /|\.
She was/is artistic and wrote a precious short story about a lil elf lost in the city until she was found by someone whom loved her dearly (my words: and brought The Light, but that is what I saw.). … I am looking for short story whilst I am trying to find a Parade Before The Parade Passes By. The Short story she wrote on ELVES…about the “sidhe”.
It is hard to stop crying — although she is in a better “space”. 🙁 :knit: /|\ burning F&M now /|\ :priest:
I think this might be what D6 was looking for. Sorry if it is a wee bit long but Susan has not used space here for a while.

She Elf in the City (a child’s fairy tale)
by Susan Joy Atton
The streets of the city were dark and cold. The winter wind blew angrily around the statue of the sad war-hero in the park.
A young sparrow shivered in a corner alone, not even any crust to eat. Everyone else was warm and in bed. It was his first winter, and he missed the flowers and people and magic of the park in springtime.
The baby sparrow amused himself by chasing dry leaves turning in a whirlwind. Then he, himself got caught up in the leaves. He ended up behind a lamp post and there found something strange.
“Who is this….” he asked a hardy, old pigeon “sitting beneath the lamp? A young girl-child?”
The old pigeon lazily walked over, bobbing his head forward and backwards in a curious manner.
“Oh, that is not a child. It’s a baby elf, can’t you see her gray-green magical eyes and the stardust around her? Let her be!”
Yes, of course, the pigeon was right, it was an elf. But it was only a child elf, and she was suddenly aware of them. The tiny she-elf stood up, and with a quick flash of her luminous eyes, enticed the little sparrow along.
“Mark this!” said the pigeon. “No good will come of you following a she-elf, no good at all!” But the sparrow followed the she-elf through the cold, lonely, night streets.
She was a baby, barefoot and lost, but everywhere she walked, snow melted.
“And look!” noticed the sparrow. The streets behind her were filled with Spring! The same delicate flowers that the bird remembered from his childhood, months before — were in the lanes behind them, everywhere the baby walked.
The she-elf was made of magic, but she did not know it. She could not control it, she could not understand what she was doing. But her thoughts turned to lovely things, and so the lovely things came to be.
Far above, in a small, square apartment, sat a little boy with blonde hair and glasses. He was doing his homework. He looked out of the window and saw the small, lovely she-elf. He smiled and felt happy.
“Don’t look down there so long daydreaming” said the boy’s father. “You must concentrate on your schoolwork and strictly discipline yourself!”
Despite his father’s warning, he peered down for one more moment and caught sight of a trail of stardust and dandelions. It made him feel like dancing and singing. Then the she-elf caught sight of the boy with the lovely blue eyes. She laughed.
The boy was tucked in that night by his parents, but the she-elf had no one but herself and a small sparrow. They returned to the park.
Lighted by the stark lamppost, the statue of the war-hero on his horse looked cold and angry. His arm was pointed out into the winter night, icicles hanging from a finger. The she-elf looked at it and cried, for the face looked so stern.
Her tears created rainbows in the puddles on the ground, one of which rose to the sky over the statue. The soldier turned to life, and rode away on his horse.
He rode very far indeed, because a spell was on him, and he knew he had little time in which to remain real. He rode as far as he could, and finally, time running out, he arrived at a castle, all dark, but covered with stardust.
Inside was a woman crying, a beautiful elf-lady with rippling black hair, and eyes grey-green as the sea.
“Where is my baby she elf? I wish I could find her!”
“News” said the war-hero. “There is a baby she-elf down in the city, making magic where ever she goes.”
With a look of joy, the elf-lady mounted his horse with him, and they rode quickly to the city.
When she arrived, there were beautiful yellow flowers and multi-colored stardust everywhere.
At the end of the trail, she saw a pair of strange grey-green eyes: it was the baby she-elf, barefoot and huddled in the corner.
“My baby! My baby!” she cried. “It is I, your mother!”
Instantly, the little elf ran forward with tears to open arms. They mounted the horse and rode away, and took the lonely little sparrow with them, leaving the city in springtime until the sun came up.
When the sun finally did rise, the city looked much the same as it ever did, snowy and windy.
And the park was empty, save an old statue of a war-hero on his horse, a smile on his face.
An old, veteran pigeon shook an icicle from a wing, and huddled in a corner, waiting for the inevitable passage of winter to spring.
