I’m a little early this morning, trying to make up for yesterday. I was hoping we’d be heading into a weekend knowing that the new Marc Maron Show would be waiting for us on Monday. I guess that’s not to be, though, and I really wonder why. I mean, AAR knows there’s an active pocket of Maronheads out here who want to know what’s going on (and we know they know where to find us now, too). Would it be so terrible to at least acknowledge that there are some complications delaying the start of the show (even if they can’t say what they are)? I mean, I know the Bush administration wants to cloak itself in secrecy, but can’t AAR be a little more open with us? This is the kind of shit that loses you an audience. Maybe they think we’re just a bunch of fringe loonies, and they don’t care what we think (hell, they sure ignored the hell out of us when they cancelled MS). Now, just as I’m starting to gain back some interest in AAR, they pull this shit. Oy.
One is reminded of the Morning Sedition “big announcement” that never happened. Hopefully this isn’t going to turn into another deal like that.
pjsauter, Your Daily Comments have been so profoundly intense on All of your topics, so much so that I have nothing to say except :billcat::growl::banana::sammy: :spank: :rofl2:
:alc:  :omg:
:omg::fire:
Riley is very good @ interviewing guests. Signs of a good journalist
His solo bits are out of touch. He runs out of words often meaning his imagination and vocabulary is limited. He needs a cohost badly
I agree! I even mailed off a box of goodies to Burbank assuming the show was starting on the 13th! What is up with these people? I too am gradually letting AAR back into my life. Why must they forsake us so?
:cry::cry::cry: :bow::bow::bow::rabbi:
The delayed debut of The Marc Maron Show is part of an ongoing investigation, and as such we can’t comment on it at this time. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning topics that are not currently under investigation.
Good morning Gaijinda! How are things on your side of the Pacific Rim? ๐
Even Georgie-Porgie could understand this story…and it has pictures!
AAR is driving me nuts. I want my Maron fix!
I get the definite impression that corporations as well as the Bush administration don’t have a clue sometimes as to what they are doing. AAR is a corporation isn’t it ??
Oh sure, I’m late with the morning thread, and everybody’s bloggin’ like crazy. Today I’m on time, and there’s only eight?
Anyhow, I got an e-mail from Sean on the road, who says:
So, let’s hope.
humm, what’s “snogging”:?:
It’s what the brits call “screwing.”
Good morning everyone!
Lets hope they announce something today…damn, it will be a drag if they start with no fanfare. Why would they do that?
Gawd, I hope we get to hear maron. it’s been a freaking radio drought. :yuck:
Serial Snogging ??:omg: You learn all sorts of things on this blog.. I initially thought that it had something to do with Special K..
Thank god for the school bus…! I love it when the boy gets on and goes to school!
Hey! we’re looking at a storm developing south of here that looks to be either a heavy snow of 8+ inches or a blizzard dumping more than a foot of snow in NYC!…Too bad that I know so many people who are travelling this weekend…but IM gonna stack wood, get food and water and snuggle down with the dogs…yay! Its winter again!
I dreamed last night that my boy and I were going to Japan. Lots of flying fear and a long flight…I woke before we got there…so tonight I have to dream about what happens there.
And its a good thing…I thought those crazy kids had made something new up!
No time for The Maron Show yet huh. Unfuckingbelievable. ๐
Farmerkat, that is some column Juan Cole has up. Well illustrated, too.
“The way Frank Rich, Maureen Dowd, Oliphant and the others behave on Imus’s show lends credibility to the complaint that liberals don’t have any balls. They handed their balls over to Imus years ago, so that he could autograph them, and auction them off as souvenirs to raise money for the ranch.”

Is anyone else sick of being “baited” by the “say nothing” attitude of ARR and Maron’s fake “being played” by ARR’s scenario?
(But it is still ๐ to hear Maron — :fire:)
Im Driving Now Just Called Riley Asked Bout Maron They Confirmed Monday We Will Be Able 2 Stream Maron! N E Way Cant Hit The Blog Now
Comment by pjsauter โ February 10, 2006 @ 7:35 am
Did you speak to Riley? Did HE say that?
Seems like Maron is surely near the point where he says, “Fuck AAR” and moves on. I, for one, would certainly understand that.
So snogging is basically spin the bottle. Okay, I’m hip now.
Was that Sue Ellicot questioning McClellan?
Oh…I thought that Snogging was the actual act, as my sister and I used to call it.
Did anyone see Krugman in the NY Times today? Its so good!
Also HuffPo is great today…just full of juicy stuff!
This budget…Cheney and Libby…its so scary, but also so interesting
There’s an old-fashioned term called heavy petting. That’s what snogging is. It does notinclude intercourse.
Morning!
What’s this shit about the Patriot Act about to pass, almost identical to the first hastily passed one? The Demovrats prove once again that they are no opposition.
:omg::fu:
Must go work on zine.:bow::omg:
NickiRose, I saw on a previous Thread that you did that Virtual March — so have I:smile:. Why is it “weak”? :fire:
NickiRose have fun at work — I will talk at another time re that March  …:fire:
The Curb your enthusiasm one? Cyber actions can be easily blown off by power. No threat behind them. Now, real marches. Thousands in the street can shake the hell out of ’em.
:omg:
NickiRose That would be so wonderful to see. Have a good day. ๐ ….:fire:
G’Night & G’Day One & All:!:  …:fire:
Honestly, Riley is so lazy! We are supposed to send him stories? Do they have NO writers? I know they have producers and great office people working thereโฆRachel is in reading the news and writing her show at 3AMโฆand Marc was in early also. Riley often obviously doesnt know the details of what hes talkign about or who he is interviewing.
If this show fials it will be because Riley didnt give it direction and make it interesting. Melina
What are you, Riley’s ex girlfriend? This statement is so ridiculously petty. Did he date and dis you? Why don’t you write to Riley yourself and tell him how you feel instead of clogging up the blog with this rubbish. Rachel in at 3am? Do you seriously think Riley is not? Asking NC Blue for story ideas…I think not. Why blame EVERYTHING that happened to Maron on AAR and nothing for Riley?
I came to this blog to stay up on what’s happening with maron, not for a rundown of your pitiful, misinformed, minute-by-minute critique of Riley.
Yeah, PJ, the least they can do is let us know there are complications to the start of the show. AAR obviously doesn’t have much respect for their audience. At least my local affiliate is not so indifferent towards their audience. They announced that the Christian group that bought the station is allowing KXXT to stay on the air until they find a new home. It’s too bad AAR can’t be as forthcoming with information.:jerk:
Gee, IQ…It sounds a little like YOU may be Riley’s girlfriend….
Listen, I started that post by saying that I was laughing, which you conveniently cut out. Im not interested in a flamewar with you, as I am entitled to my opinion and you can just skip my posts if they upset you.
If youve been around you will see that I have alot of things to say about AAR/Riley/the board etc….
If I dont like the show, then I dont like the show. That doesnt mean that you cant like it….one post also doesnt mean that I only blame Riley and not the rest of them.
…and I also love Rachel’s show, which also replaced Marc, so there!
What is your problem?? Your tone is just horrible, and Im really sorry that you are so angry. Sporry if I contributed to your foul mood by writing a post yesterday that you read today and got angy about…
And One more thing…..If you listened to MS you would know that Riley didnt come in as early as the rest of them…Sorry bout that.
Im not going to fight with you.
Why dont you write some senators or something rather than “clogging up the blog…” with your anger… heh heh…
hey sheeple i called the 1-866-303-2270 number guy that answered no not riley said that we would definitely be able to stream on monday i didnt think to ask what time:mad: for some reason i think it was because i was more concerned if the show would be on xm considering the only reason i havent switched to sirius to get npr and pri is that i am holding out hope that maron will be returning to that little sattelite in the sky guy was very very firm that we would be able to stream on monday he had no doubt in his voice whatsoever he sounded honestly like i was nuts for not knowing that we could stream it come monday anywho i need to get back to making naked ladies from letters and numbers now so uh later
IQ, calm down. Speed kills. All that stuff. Here is the email I recieved from Riley yesterday.
The race he refers to is precinct chairman. North Carolina’s annual precinct meetings start next week. The “listeners like me” refers to non-NYC residents. He is concerned he does not reach out to people who do not live in/near Metropolis.
As to AAR programs trying to cover all the political news across 50 states and half a dozen protectorates and possessions with a population of 300,000,000, no single news room can do it. Visit a news room some time and see what really goes on.
I don’t want to come across crabby, but if you don’t like our discussing radio programs and voicing our opinions then maybe you are in the wrong place. Need news on Maron? Visit this place:
My impression of Riley asking for stories was that he wanted to keep in touch with his previous listeners and possibly recapture them by reporting on stories that we are interested in. He knows many of us don’t care about sports and NY centric stories.
NC Blue, thanks you made my point for me. http://www.marcmaron.com is not updated regularly…yet Melina calls Riley lazy. I’m glad you posted the email from Riley. How you’d translate that into him asking for story ideas is bizarre. I just thought this blog would have more substance but it’s turned into a soap opera. Melina calls someone lazy and says MY tone is horrible? Get real.
Dearest Melina, thank you so much for all your positive, uplifting comments that I missed somewhere in the past 24 months. I agree with you, it would be an outrage if Riley didn’t show up to work on time. Can you please share with me how you know this?
hey thanks for the little mini soap iq anywho the request for news e-mail was posted yesterday blah blah blah blah blah anyway hope you were happy to read the post i put up about what i found out not that its much but uh yeah ok then i need to go to the bathroom
Reality check, Riley was not asking for people to do his work for him as this email to ncblue shows.
“Let me know how your race goes, and keep in touch with other interesting info that I might include on the show that you feel would be of interest to listeners like you.
peace.”
MR
Personally, I’m interested in sports, if not such an NYC-centric world-view. But I think its good Riley is reaching out. I have nothing personally against him. I don’t listen to him any more because I DO think he does better as a co-host than carrying the whole load himself. (Besides, I can’t afford to pay for podcasts) But I really liked him with Marc on Morning Sedition and wish Riley nothing but the best.
I found out my rep in the State Legislature is running unopposed so far and the deadline for candidates to register is next week. I almost ran for U.S. Congress, but got behind another guy who I think is a better public speaker. However, I have have to think about a political race after all. I live in a heavily Republican district, but I hate to see him run unopposed.
I’m sorry, IQ. I agree with Melina. Yes, Riley is lazy. He’s on AAR, after all–not just WLIB (the NY flagship/affiliate.) And AAR, in case you forgot, stands for Air AMERICA Radio.
And yes, it’s okay to call Mark lazy. First of all, that’s an OPINION. Second, he didn’t just relocate cross country, with two feral cats in tow, and then have to reassemble the funny on a shoestring with no real support from the “powers that be.”
I don’t much care for your tone; I don’t know how you squeaked past PJ, because I consistently mistake your posts for those of a troll.
Wow, IQ. You can actually read some words. Not all, some. What should we work on next week? Word meanings or shapes and colors. We will get you educated yet. BTW, what does that “IQ” stand for?
:rofl2:
Well Krista- I am the first one to be hoping that Riley pulls it together….I think that the show can be great, and Ive certainly given it many chances, but Im often wincing after his stammering or wrong information…I wouldnt mind if it was on some other time, but its on when I need a good show because its when I do my stuff.
I dont think that Riley has a choice about the content being NYC-centric because that is the area that DG wants to hit the ratings. I dont know why NYC’s ratings are so important when its such a liberal town and doesnt represent the rest of ther country (and why do the conservative hosts do any numbers in NYC at all?…is it that that has been all thats available to the radio listening public?)Up till day 1 of AAR I was driving round listening to all news all the time, bloomberg news, Dr whoever the shrink, Curtis and Kuby (which was pretty good,) and CDs…oh, and for the longest time I subscribed to audible’s NY Times audio version….and books too.
Since that first day when Al cleared this throat at 12:60 PM I never went back to anything unless there was a big highway tie up or a big storm…otherwise I listen to AAR.
There is no competiton in NYC…thats why I think that the publicity end of things has been weak, to put it mildly.
In the beginning we had big billboards of Al and Randi in NYC subways, but nothing else…and never Unfiltered or MS! Hell, they could have so easily played off of the Daily Show ties of the writers, but they let that slip away…just like the Stern Fans, just like thumbing their noses at us….just like everything that they do.
There is a code in radio that hosts font break that 3rd wall or whatever, and talk about what is happening. Marc is the first person who ever did that and I think that it was a brilliant move because it raises what he does above the hack level of most radio to an interactive medium where we count!
My Mom has alwasy been a big radio listener and I reemember a few years ago when we sat on a deck in Cape Cod and listenend to then end of the last real liberal station in NYC…she was so upset, but clearchannel had decided to switch it to some other format. She says that on all of these shohws forever that hosts just disappear and you never get ot know why or whats happening…no one protests or does anyhting. Its all big business moving the chess pieces around.
I dont think that media outlets are going to be able to keep doign business that way. From my research on some industry blogs, they know it!
Im not gonna shut up and take it.
AAR is all we have right now. If I could switch the channel and find the same sort of thing, I would, but its slim pickins out there.I think its really important with all thats going on to hold all of these guys up to a higher standard. They must understand that what they are doing is more than just a radio channel. Its more than NPR. Its a movement and an experiment in moving society forward.
When I see that blunted by Franken moving center and Riley’s sports talk, Im gonna complain…to Riley, AAR, this blog, and whoever I want to…
Sorry to take up blog space…I just had a little rant in me. I suppose in the future I should put them over on RIPCoco…
Im off to do my stuff…and to enter the blizzard frenzy of downtown. I swear, youd think that these people never saw snow. Im sure that all the shovels salt and water will be gone already…heh…Travis will be laughing at us….(and I lived in MT for a couple of years and then Maine, so this is just so silly…)
i bet iq gets really pissed about my late night nothing blogs!!!!!
IQ — I am a literalist. Were you serious regarding Melina? I have been on this blog a decent period of time and she, as with ALL here, deals with most issues and she was just venting her views about a radio host. She and OTHERS like her sees a professional error that Riley did, therefore, she was just proclaiming Her Views. She will be announcing more intense articles and/or Links soon enough. ..:fire:
Hey, Hey, Hey, Sheeple :sheep::sheep:, IQ has a right to say what he thinks just like anyone else here. The First Ammendment.
If you’re interested in posting something of substance, then please feel free to do so. This blog has been around since about the first of December, so I guess you must be referring to the old MS blog for the other 22 or so months.
I would love to update everybody on all things Maron, Earl, Jones, and everybody I’ve left out. Unfortunately, they don’t call, they don’t write…. AAR folks stop by here, pretty much every day and read what we write, but, other than right after the demise of MS when Kent Jones stopped by to say thanks, they don’t post stuff here (though I’d be happy to let them), and they don’t send me stuff to post.
Now, from time to time, people express their frustration at AAR and some of the folks still there. A one-off comment by somebody which I may or may not agree with might get posted. Well fine. Beating it to death when it would have been forgotten seems both counterproductive and, frankly, boring.
So, we do the best we can here. We share information, talk about the news, and we try and have a sense of humor and not take ourselves too seriously.
So, as I said before, if you think we need more substance, then post some. If you want to disagree with what somebody posts, feel free. But if you want to be snotty about it, then go hang out with the freepers.
Sorry, but I do the best I can. And if it aint good enough, well, you get what you pay for, right? ๐
I meant 12:06 PM…typing fast…now Im late…oh well.
Thanks for that laughs this AM everyone. I cant wait till we have the funny back. Too bad we cant have a regular replay/podcast party every morning or evening or something…I guess that those of you who can stay up late will chat during the show…if its midnight I wont make it…oh well…I never could type during the show anyway because I was out doing the school runs and all of that stuff….
:bow:MELINA
…and PJ, you are doing a fantastic job…have I thanked you lately for providing this spot? I hope it doesnt get swallowed by Marc’s site…I hope Brendan or someone has been paying attention to this. It would be so good to combine forces…but I wouldnt want to write too much into a blogspace owned by AAR…next thing you know DG will be charging by the word!
OK, I have to go away again, so everybody play nice.
Oh, and Sean….XM now will have…OPRAH!! I know youve been waiting for the Angel network! Theyre giving her a whole channel so that Gayle and Steadman can also have their own shows;-)
Typing is all done. Now is the time to high-tail it to Kinkos, and slap the bastard together. (Damn! I missed the excitement.)
I listen to Riley religiously.
Springer is a gas!
The levees had broken!
:fustrate::mad:friggin social security “reforming” sneaky bastards what the fuck argh :fu:
Funny you should mention that, PJ. I’ve been meaning to ask if there’s a way for us to help defray your costs. (Since I almost exclusively use the blog, I may be overlooking something obvious on the site.)
And thank you once again for keeping the spirit of MS alive.
 Again, G’Night & G’Day To All  :fire:
sean, did you hear Rachel on this yesterday? They snuck in all of this money to privatize SS anyway…how can that be?…also Krugman is so great today about the budget and the sneaky stuff…I may have to post it on my blog just because its so good and its subscription only…did you know that they changed the forecast part of the budget from 10 years to 5 years so no one would see the long term effects of the tax cuts?
They took the future away…and now they have reached the point where they can thide it anymore because they are in the 6th year of the 5 year plan…and its all gonna blow up, if anyone is interested in this country…damn!
When the levee breaks…..:omg::40::fu:
:fustrate::mad::growl::rant1:oh yeah im so excited about the oprah channel cant wait i friggin loathe oprah i loathe o magazine i loathe everything about oprah so uh im not gonna talk about that because im sure nobody else dislikes oprah and no there is no reason that i can come up with for hating her i just dont i have a vauge thougt somewhere in the back of my head that her show interfered with cartoons or something when i was a kid and i guess that would make me have a deep loathing of operah that i cant explain i think shes a good person and what not i know she does good things theres just something in my head somewhere that cant stand her ok well im stopping this now it is way too long of a rant against oprah so uh yeah ok im done now
:spank:never bring up her name again!!!!!
By-By!:omg::rofl2::mad::rofl2:
please post it i dont think im going to be able to find a copy of the times today and i  krugman
:cool:whoa just re-read my oprah post got a little carried away didnt i i think i need to post that on my blog where did that come from she must of interrupted he-man or g.i. joe or something damn:oops:
Hey, Nicky, where is your zine available?
I’m up and out the door. That kinda morning.
When you click on Shows at airamericaradio.com you get the Thom Hartman link but not the Marc Maron one. And they have been announcing the two shows together. What a pile of shit!
I think there might be some other negotiation going on, perhaps trying to negotiate with some other show to change its time slot so Marc will fit in, but that’s the only thing I can think of that doesn’t involve conspiracy theories and the like.
They aren’t airing The Marc Maron Show because he’s got the TRUTH, man! He, like, KNOWS what’s going on! The NSA, the CIA, the FBI, and the USDA are all investigating! It’s a conspiracy, man! :omg:
Okay, maybe I’m wrong. I think I’ll go head to work now and worry about the future of social sevices for a while…

hey sean, i got the whole thing “wiretapped”, buddy. i’ll send an mp3 to pj and see if he can post it.
it was right after gypsy morphed into marc that i suddenly got the idea to check out the quake for the first time for no apparent reason. talk about a rod serling moment.

…it really was so nice to hear marc being himself, wasnโt it. especially after yesterday.
Comment by tom t…
It sure was. I was really bummed hearing him yesterday talking about the grammys. But, TODAY was terrific. He is able to condense all the Bush Administration nonsense into concise pointed commentary.
sean and everybody…the krugman article is on ripcoco now. Grab it because I might not leave it up. I suppose im only in danger of a cease and desist but…hell, why would they charge extra for this stuff. This information has to be out there..I had some trouble with the blog network being busy…huh?…alot of craziness with Marc suddenly on…Thnaks Tom…great timing and really made my day…I have to remember to tell you all about the great NY Magazine article about Craig from Craig’s list…He is just great and is working on a citizen reporter network that may replace network news as far as something that we can trust to be honest!
OK Im out.
:banana:already got it from jason but thanks melina have a nice day
ok im off to the arena if i have a connection i will post some more nonsensical drivel there
i’m back skimming.
Yeah, it felt that way. Scary.
What interview with Marc? I’m still BC (Before Coffee) and haven’t figured everything out yet. Did someone save it? Can I hear it? Please?
On a serious note, does anyone know where i can find a solid (e.g., not just Rachel’s comment) story somewhere about Monkey Boy and the Shitettes trying to sneak the privatization of Social Security into the budget?
Here’s one story, from the Senior Journal.
pj – i’ve been trying to send you an mp3 of marc on the radio this morning. the original file (7.5MB) was too big. i spliced it in half, but it still won’t go through.
any suggestions?
WHAT? WHAT?
HEY TOM – WHAT DID MARON SAY?????? We need a brief write-up until pj gets back. Did you say TWO HOURS?????
hope hope hope hope hope hope  :rabbi:
here’s another one about the budget and Social Security.
hey farmerkat!
you can get the main info about the show from comments #82-84.
i wish i knew how to get the audio to pj ’cause it’s 2:20 a.m. and my son’s got an early soccer game tomorrow.
in any case – marc sounded good; much better than yesterday.
Porter Goss has an op in the nyt “leaks to the press are endangering american lives.” guess the only loose lips he trusts to the press are the lies and distortions the bush crime famliy chooses to leak that sends are youth in to an accidental war. what a load of crap. :barf:
something you might be able to do is to download the podcast from the quake.
it seems that it’s free but they want your info.
thanks tom and good luck at the soccer match…. do the parents scream like crazy over there? somehow I can’t imagine it The tick thing had me laughing yesterday, btw. ๐
:rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
thanks farmerkat.
btw – believe it or not, the parents do scream. the coaches, on the other hand, are pretty laid back.
and yes, yesterday’s blog – can you believe i inadvertantly called danny g a superhero!?
enjoy the rest of the day, farmerkat.
have a good snooze, tom. ciao

Of “Racist” Ideologies and Nuclear Weapons
The Tempest Over the Hamas Charter
By SAREE MAKDISI
The Hamas charter has been the subject of fairly extensive media coverage in recent weeks. A number of newspaper pieces have argued that the charter is unapologetically racist; some have gone even further.
A piece by Daniel Goldhagen in last Sundayโs Los Angeles Times argues, for example, that the charter expresses Hamasโ intent to embark on a genocidal program against Israeli Jews. Of course, in literally comparing Hamas to the Nazis, Goldhagen makes it sound as though thereโs some titanic military-industrial power standing behind Hamasโs sloganeering, and as though Palestineโs awesome military mightโits legions of soldiers, armored and mechanized infantry divisions, flotillas of bombers, and perhaps even a fleet of some kindโstands ready to rain ruin and devastation down on an innocent and practically defenseless Israel.
Itโs difficult to determine whether to read a piece like Goldhagenโs as ruthlessly cynical or naรฏvely childlike (does he really think that Hamas or the Palestinians in general are in a position to embark on a genocidal campaign against the Israelis, even if thatโs what they really want, which is at best a doubtful proposition?). Perhaps itโs some strange combination of the two. In any event, itโs certainly an expression of gross ignorance and greatly exaggerated overstatementโand thereโs plenty of both around in the US these days when it comes to Hamas, which is why, although Goldhagenโs piece may be particularly lurid in its depiction of Hamas, itโs not entirely unrepresentative of a larger set of trends.
Now, there can be no doubt that the Hamas charter is not only xenophobic, sectarian, and racist, but also ill-conceived, inaccurate, retrograde, and intellectually vacuous.
Nevertheless, the obsessive attention being paid to this document in the US in recent weeks forces one to ask not merely what purposes such an obsession serves, but also what equally (or even more) important issues it elides or covers up.
First, one has to marvel at the interest being paid to the racism of the Hamas charter, given the extraordinary lack of interest here in Israel’s own racism, which is executed not merely on paper and in theory but actually, practically, materially.
Israel’s Basic Laws, for example, discriminate between Jews and non-Jews in ways that many of those Americans who object most loudly to the mixture of religion and politics strangely don’t seem to find objectionable.

The Worst Parts Remain Unchanged
A Raw Deal on the Patriot Act
By Sen. RUSSELL FEINGOLD
I understand that some of my friends and colleagues in the Senate have come to an agreement with the White House on reauthorizing the Patriot Act.
While I respect these Senators greatly, I am gravely disappointed in this so-called deal. The White House agreed to only a few minor changes to the Patriot Act conference report that could not get through the Senate back in December. These changes do not address the major problems with the Patriot Act that a bipartisan coalition has been trying to fix for the past several years. Weโve come too far and fought too hard to agree to reauthorize the Patriot Act without fixing those problems. A few insignificant changes just doesnโt cut it. I cannot support this deal, and I will do everything I can to stop it.
I understand the pressure that my colleagues have been under on this issue, and I appreciate all the hard work that they have done on the Patriot Act. It has been very gratifying to work on a bipartisan basis on this issue. It is unfortunate that the White House is so obviously trying to make this into a partisan issue, because it sees some political advantage to doing so. Whether the White House likes it or not, this will continue to be an issue where both Democrats and Republicans have concerns, and we will continue to work together for changes to the law. I am sure of that.
But I will also continue to strongly oppose any reauthorization of the Patriot Act that does not protect the rights and freedoms of law-abiding Americans with no connection to terrorism. This deal does not meet that standard โ it doesnโt even come close.

Franken’s guest , Lawrence O’Donnell, says that the government will never take money from the defense budget.:fustrate: Yes. That is the bedrock principle that the postworld war ll US economy is built on. Military keynesianism.

An Impressive Achievement
by Nathan Rao; Rabble; February 10, 2006
I left Montreal on Sunday evening feeling positively giddy about the founding convention of the Quรฉbec Solidaire party (PQS), a new left-wing party that enters the fray with more than 4000 members and strong roots in Quebec’s wide array of social movements and Left political traditions. I was impressed by the tone of the event — both serious and playful at the same time — and moved by the broader significance of what had taken place. Not only did more than 1000 people come together in these cynical and conformist times to defy critics and found a new and confident left-wing party. They did so with an awareness of the enormous difficulties the new party faces, and a commitment to confront these difficulties serenely and democratically. This is going to be a long haul, and everyone present knew it.
The birth of Quรฉbec Solidaire is itself proof that this measured approach to the usually topsy-turvy business of activist-Left politics can work. The PQS has come about through the merger of the Union des forces progressistes (UFP) and Option Citoyenne (OC) – themselves the coming together of various strands of the political and social-movement Left – patiently debated and negotiated over a period lasting 18 months.
The convention did not lay down the new party’s program, but set out a few clear guiding principles (ecologist, left-wing, democratic, feminist, against capitalist globalization, anti-racist and supportive of Aboriginal struggles, and pro-Quebec sovereignty). These principles will take the PQS through the next year of recruitment and party-building — and debate on the party’s program and electoral platform, which will be adopted at next year’s party convention.
The convention also adopted by-laws which, among other things, require gender parity in all leadership bodies. The first national coordinating committee (the day-to-day leadership of the party), elected at the convention, will have nine women and seven men. An interesting discussion on the basic organizing units of the party was settled in such a way as not to give undue weight to riding associations, which would slant the party’s activities too much towards electioneering and detract from regional and Quebec-wide activist campaigns and mobilizations.
Of course, none of this would have been possible or worthy of interest were it not for the backdrop of a revival of protest and dissent stretching back to the mid-1990s and speeding up early in the new century.

ZNet | Criminal Justice System
Of Snowboarders And Corporations
by Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman; February 09, 2006
What’s the most powerful and underutilized legal tool in combating corporate crime and violence?
Sarbanes Oxley? No.
The Martin Act? No.
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act? No.
The antitrust laws? Clearly not.
No, the most powerful and underutilized tool in combating corporate crime and violence is the law in your state making it a crime to kill another person. It is powerful because it levels the playing field between individuals and corporations. It is underutilized because it’s a rare prosecutor who has the guts to bring a homicide charge against a major American corporation.
If you have one too many drinks, get behind the wheel of your car, drive away, get into an accident and kill someone as a result, you most likely will be charged with some form of homicide — negligent homicide, or reckless homicide or manslaughter. You didn’t intend to kill someone. But you did. You should have known that drinking and driving increased the risk that you were going to kill someone. And you did kill someone. And you will be charged and most likely convicted and most likely spend some time in the slammer.
But if a large powerful institution — say a corporation or a government — engages in reckless or negligent behavior, and they kill someone or many someones — they will most likely not be criminally prosecuted for homicide. Why not? The short answer is — they’re powerful and you’re not.
So, for example, we read in the newspaper today that a snowboarder who ran into a skier a year ago in at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming was charged yesterday with negligent homicide. The 17-year-old ran into Heather Donahue, 29, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Donahue died of a head injury. “The impact knocked Donahue out of her gloves, skis, poles, hat, goggles, neck warmer and catapulted her 25 feet down the hill,” sheriff’s investigator Mike Carlson said.
All you have to do is type in the words “manslaughter” or “reckless homicide” or “negligent homicide” into Google News and up will come case after case of regular people being charged with various forms of homicide — not because they intended to kill, but because they did not take care.
Rarely do corporations get charged. . .

Who Stew Albert Was
by Paul Krassner ; February 07, 2006
After Ratso Sloman ghost-wrote Howard Sternโs autobiography, โPrivate Parts,โ he compiled an oral biography of Abbie Hoffman, โSteal This Dream.โ Stern wasnโt impressed.
โWell,โ said Ratso, โStew Albert likes it.โ
โWho the hell is Stew Albert?โ asked Stern.
When Stew heard about this, he made that question the title of his memoir. Previously, he had co-edited with his wife, Judy Clavir, โThe Sixties Papers,โ a collection of documents behind the countercultural history of that era, from Tom Haydenโs โPort Huron Statementโ–the credo of Students For a Democratic Society, currently undergoing a rebirth on campuses–to Robin Morganโs feminist manifesto, โGoodbye to All That.โ
The Alberts had found an illegal surveillance device under their car, they sued the FBI and won. Part of the settlement enabled them to buy a computer, with which they produced that book, now used in college courses across the country.
Stew never got the media attention that Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin did as fellow organizers of the Yippies (Youth International Party), though after he died at the age of 66 last Monday, his contributions were finally recognized in his obituaries.
We met in 1965 when I was invited to emcee the first Vietnam Teach-In on the UC-Berkeley campus. He was on the Vietnam Day Committee, and became the first activist to turn me on to marijuana, with Thai stick.
ย
“Now I know why we’re fighting in Southeast Asia,” I observed. “To protect the crops.”
During the antiwar demonstrations in the summer of 1968 at the Democrats national comvention, Stew was the first to get smashed on the head with a police billy club. After his head was stitched and bandaged, we went to a Western Union office and sent a telegram (recently deemed an obsolescent means of communication) to the UN, requesting them to send in a human rights unit to investigate violations in Chicago.

oh man- anyone know anything about the oil industries royalty relief program?
PeaBody Coal:fu:
Stop these killers!
Franken has good guests.:nixon:
Corporations dominate this system. I am certain that the Orwellian sounding royalties relief is another scheme that allows them to rake in more profit. Subsidy. Entitlement. We have a lot of work to do, people.:sheep::sheep:
Greatful Dead galore. On our local community radio station, the Deadheads organized and took over a good chunk of Saturday programming to play hours of those goddamn bootleg concerts. Killed some important jazz programs in their quest, too. Franken’s use of the dead is much more tastefull than KBOO’s mafia.
talking about corporate homocide: did you ever hear, a while back, the woman on ring of fire who is out to get the head of union carbide in to jail for the bhopal disaster?
Gone!:peace:
Hey Tom, I sent you an e-mail for getting the mp3 to me. Thankx
yeah royalty relief is susposed to get oil companies to start up expensive new oil deposits without having to spend all their massive profits. if you ask me its lame.
Not in depth. Going after corporations is the key area to organize in. Corporations are the monsters who are killing us. (I know, old information.) Whole hour of Joe Canason. Have to bring my rapidly deteriorating walkman. The cassette function died the other night.
Royalty Relief. Typical. Now, where is the “trickle down”? If the government was not toothless, but could compel corporations to create decent jobs, then the system would not be so bad. Corporations Rule!:omg:
BYE. Get a Franken image here (and Randi, Janeane. Oh, Pandora’s Box!:omg:)

Runs that pipsqueak, pipsqueak, pipsqueak.
Are things finally starting to come back on these crooks in the White House? Brownie’s finally gotten tired of being the fall guy (and the e-mails are there to prove it), the CIA is tired of being blamed for the Iraq bullshit, and now we know that Cheney told Scooter to take down Joe Wilson and his wife.
Or is all this going to be poo-pooed away by the Bush apologists and forgotten by the media?
From CNN:
Now he knows how the rest of us feel, especially gulf coast residents.

NickiRose, Mr. Peabody has been hauling away whole mountain tops for 4 or 5 years. Can anyone guess who deregulated that one? What the do is fill up a valley or cove or lake and take out the coal. It’s real good for the mining lobby campaign contributions but doesn’t do a whole lot of good for the scenery.
Gotta get. have a car load of precinct meeting signs to post, now that my homework and laundry are done.
PJ, isn’t it scary that we have to visit the Eurpoean press somethimes to find out what’s going on in our own country?
You guys are really interesting. I’ve been out for hours – I’ve no idea what a troll is, and I didn’t realize I could only respond to a post the same day? Anyway, I thought it was really nice that Melina broke through with a great posting (#50). If anyone can post a final update on whether Maron will be on on Monday, I’d really appreciate it. Somehow that info got lost for me in the back-and-forth drama.
Yes, it is. What’s even scarier is the number of people who don’t or can’t make the effort to find out what’s really going on out there, because they’re enabling the lazy press and the corrput politicians, and the criminal corporations to continue screwing us all.
I don’t care if they want to live under a faux Texas Mussolini, but I don’t think we should have to.
I don’t know of any official word on whether Marc’s show will actually be up and streaming on Monday. You’d think they’d have something up on AAR’s website, wouldn’t you?
URGH! it has been incredibly frustrating that the show is not mentioned on their front page. can only speculate why but the point is – IT IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
If the reason that things are delayed/confused is that they’ve decided to change it from a 1-hour show to a 2-hour show, then I am willing to put up with the confusion.
But, it would sure be nice if you got the feeling that somebody over there at AAR knew what was up. I mean, one person calls, and the person they talk to says there’s no start date. Then Sean calls the studio line, and somebody says, “oh, yeah, Monday start, you’re all set.” Somebody e-mails Jon Sinton, and asks if it’ll be premium only, and he replies “gee, I hope not.” Then – from what I’ve read above, since I couldn’t be where I could hear it – Marc says it “might” be 2 hours, and it’ll “probably” be live. I mean, if it’s gonna start on Monday, it seems like they ought to know that kind of stuff by now.
Jesus, am I a jerk!

did i miss something kahn:?:
Yeah, whatsamatta, CK?
No, Farmerkat. I just needed to vent about something I wasn’t ready to talk about in that moment.
Short version: I jumped in to defend Melina this morning (not that she needed defending) against what I felt was an attack by IQ. In it, I supported her for saying that Riley was lazy.
Well, it just so happens that I’d gone to Riley’s blog last night for the first time and was very touched by his post of a few days ago about being his father’s son. In a strange irony, it turns out his dad’s name was the same as my younger cat’s–Elwood Riley. It was an odd coincidence (especially since Elwood’s middle name–Riley–was in part a nod to MR) and I wrote him an e-mail about it.
I got a response from him just now concurring about the strange coincidence–and then asking me if I’m the same citizenkahn who called him lazy on the blog today!!!
I did write back to explain the circumstances of my post, but I feel like I hurt his feelings, with my (to borrow a phrase) flip-flopping.
Now I feel awful.
๐
Melina, thanks for posting the Krugman piece. The St. Pete Times usually runs his columns two or three days after the NYT, but I enjoy them more when they’re fresh.
Any chance we can get a link to today’s Maron interview? I checked the Quake’s website, but couldn’t find anything. Unfortunately I was buried ass-deep in work this morning and missed it.
Sounds like I’ll be iPod-shopping this weekend.
ohhhh, gotcha. it’s easy to forget we’re not so anonymous. You are not a jerk and I’d wager riley welcomed the opportunity to address your comment. When you’re an on-air personality, you get a thicker skin….at least that’s what i’ve learned from mr.farmerkat. no worries! :priest: you’ve repented, now go forth and sin no more. awwwwwwwww
Thanks, Farmerkat.
I was actually starting to feel better (thanks for the :priest:) when I got a second e-mail from Riley. I’m not sure his skin is as thick as you might assume.
=sigh=
Marc’s interview on Will and Willie is now up here (link on the right, under multimedia, or just click here).
From what he said, it’s going to be a 2 hour show, with all (most) of the old characters, but he says they are still unsure of when it will be on.
CitKahn, people with too-thin skin really don’t last in any part of the broadcast field as long as Riley has. He may take offense at having something he’s proud of (his work) insulted but he’s not going to let it hurt him all that personally.
I bet he got over it fast. You need to stop kicking yourself. No harm, no foul, all those cliches….
Nicky, I agree with you about corporations. They have to be put in their place.Real Human’s first!(That’s a good sign) Not sure about how you would/could change the economic system that, generally, benefits so many(when regulated and playing field somewhat leveled). You gotta keep the incentive thing somehow, yet control greed.
Thanks, Gypsy.
BTW–I finally, finally made the chili last night! I didn’t quite follow either recipe (yours or Brilliant’s) but took a lot of “advice” from both. It was quite yummy–I still need to tweak it a bit (not sure I like the heat at the back of the mouth as much as in the front, so will probably skip the hot sauce and increase the chili powder), but hubby said it definitely has to go into rotation, which is a high compliment, indeed.
Thanks for the link to the interview, PJ. It was good to hear Marc ENJOYING what he was talking about. And I would gladly wait a couple of days for a 2 hour show. That makes me happy!
Re: Chili. So, nu? What’s YOUR recipe?
Well, it went something like this:
3 lbs chopped meat (I used 90% lean)
~2T solid Crisco
1 bag of onions, peeled, ends removed, and chopped fine
2 heaping T garlic powder (a shortcut)
~1 cup red wine
2 T soy sauce (I will use more next time)
~1/2 T Tabasco sauce (I will probably eliminate next time)
3 heaping T chili powder (ditto)
4 t cumin (possibly ditto)
9 smallish tomatoes (~2″ diameter), cored, halved, and put through a food processor lightly
2 large cans kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 large can tomato sauce (I always use Huntโs)
2/3 bag frozen corn (~2 cups)
Brown the meat and drain it on a paper towel in a colander before rinsing it with hot water to reduce the fat. (I did this the night before because I had defrosted the meat and had to cook it.)
Sautรฉ the onions in a large pot with the Crisco. After they have softened a bit, add the cooked chopped meat until heated through, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic, wine, soy and Tabasco and stir. Incorporate the tomatoes, beans, corn, and tomato sauce. Reduce heat and let it cook for at least 2 hours. The beans seemed to thicken the mixture as they broke down; even though I had a lid on the pot, there was much less liquid at the end. (We like it thick, so we were happy.)
Thatโs pretty much it. Iโm thinking of calling it โcitizenkahnโs brilliant gypsy chili.โ Whaddya think?
๐
It’s so warm outside, it’s scary:billcat:
Dude, I see raindrops on the window. Real raindrops, not ice, my friends. 40 degrees Fahrenheit above zero:doh: I’m goin’ outside :rofl2: Yeah :nixon:
:paranoid::paranoid:
Sounds yummy! (I would use extra beans and leave out the meat, or possibly use turkey, but that’s just me…)
So when are we all getting together for dinner, eh?
Yes, I might make it without the meat next time, but I had bought it specifically with the intention of making chili. I’m not a big beef eater most of the time, but I find when I’m trying to lose weight (which I am right now), it works better when I eat animal protein. But generally, I prefer meatless chili.
Anyway, more info than you needed, but I was very pleased. I’ve had such bad experiences trying to make chili in the past (I gave up trying for a very long time) but I knew I could trust what was recommended here. The power of the blog goes deep!
We need this emblazoned somewhere. :rofl2:
I’m outta here, blog sibs. Got a big deal potluck to go to tonight that involves that chocolate cake I made yesterday, saffron rice with chorizo (yeah, I’ll eat it…sigh…), and kahlua mudslides. I’d invite you all to join us but that would mean less for me. Besides, unless you knit or scrapbook, AND live in Portland, this wouldn’t be a fun event for you. (I think that limits it to Ol’ Zeb and NickiRose, but only if either of them knits or scrapbooks. I think Amy’ll be painting on reclaimed wood, but that’s as far out of our comfort area as we’re likely to get.)
Vigilence, blog sibs! Next Monday may we somehow, somewhere, be in Maronland! (I’ll be back before then, of course…)
CK, why didnt you just say that you were referring to something that someone else said (or that I said.) I dont say anything in a forum that I wouldnt want the person to read or know…and I’d happily take responsibility for anything I’ve said because I have some pretty sound reasoning behind it, Also, having grown up in a showbiz family and been in and around production (radio and film) I know that these guys are not letting something that some girl on a website, or the top critic in the NY times, give them any sort of pause. Im not worried that Riley is at home worried about his show….Though I would be thinking about it and trying to tweak it if I were him. Hes had such a long career…and maybe this is just his style…not everyone likes the same things…whatever.
I dont like much that he points this out to you…unless hes joking…because the message I get is that he is watching so we shouldnt say what we think. If I were him I would want a real opinion from the real listeners, and he wont get that if we edit ourselves.
What if Marc has been reading and he now knows that we didnt like the Grammy piece?! But, even though Marc comes off like a neurotic mess, he is surely tough as nails. You dont spend years performing stand up without a little distance from your stage persona and your real persona.
I wouldnt give it a second thought…and if he wants to know who said it, tell him it was me!
Hey, y’all!
Kevin, I just got an iPod two days ago. I got the 30g one and like it a bunch so far.
I’ve been having a few wee drinks and am a little :billcat:.
Mark Tucker has posted part 3 of his Air America’s Birthday (Report) Card, which is worth a read.
Mark Tucker needs to spell Riley’s name right and get Marc’s most famous catch phrases right. Christo-Fascist Zombie Brigade and the Neocon Death Cult!
Thank you, Melina. I appreciate your post.
I did try to explain the circumstances, and here’s his response (the subject header was “Thanks????”):
To which I replied:
By the way–when I wrote, “If you read through my posts,” I meant ALL my posts on morningseditionists.com–not just today’s. But if you still want to be offended, go ahead. It was not my intention, I assure you.
Since you read the blog regularly–as I am beginning to suspect you do–why don’t you stop by and say hi? People would be thrilled to hear from you. MS was magical because of the chemistry BETWEEN you and Marc. Even when he’s back on the air, it won’t be the same. Since you read the blog, I’m sure you see that folks who listen to your show are perplexed by your relative silence on the whole issue. I understand if you don’t want to offer an opinion when things like Danny G’s MISmanagement of AAR come up, but nothing is to stop you from saying “no comment” if pressed.
Anyway, I do appreciate the fact that you read–and respond to–your mail, and I really do wish you the best.
I’m done worrying about it–I’ve done nothing wrong and have finally put down the sledgehammer I was using to clobber myself!
Hey PJ, thanks alot for that clip. How come you left out the second to last sentence? …I really don’t think that its possible that critics are gonna hurt Reilly’s feelings…The person who has done this is DG, and whoever else might be advising him…Imus or whoever…How could Reilly not realize what hes up against. hes got big shoes to fill.
Anyway, its another voice there and hopefully Marc will be able to build on this. I would love to see him get a great deal on XM or something…relying on AAR is scary.
Hopefully we can take back the house, senate, and airwaves…its crazy to have this be the only national outlet.Im still so happy from the news that we will get 2 hours per day…that, along with Rachel and a bit of jeaneane will do it for me, for now! Im just sorry that I cant leave it on all day till 3 anymore…
When you get a chance can you tell me how you send MP3’s…are they zipped or shrunk somehow?
Soon I will move my page and then I can also just post stuff that people want.
Also, what program do you use to edit MP3’s?
Have a great night…Ive got to get some sleep…
Early morning Barmitzvah tomorrow…makes me very glad that my new phone has a great solitaire program! …at 9AM the catholic side of me will be asking what the f**k the jewish side has done in dragging us into temple!…and what Im doing in stockings, skirt, and high heels at all much less on Saturday AM!! (and where the hell did I leave my shirt?)
Looking for the snow…here it comes!! Yay!
what I said, and I stand behind it, is that it was bantered about on a few occasions that Riley comes in later than everyone…and I know that Marc was up at 3 and doinghis homework (also Rachel was too) unless he was lying…but the amount of detail that someone knows tells the story.
I didnt mean that Riley is a lazy man, a lazy father, a lazy American…I meant that as far as knowing the exact details of stuff he doesnt tend to know and he tends to generalize sometimes unless its something that he was directly involved with or something that really interests him.
I think that AAR has a responsibility to fact check, be correct in what they say, and double check their facts again. This is because the other side takes such liberties with the truth.
I always feel like Franken’s books are so well researched because it would never do to have O’Reily find anything wrong…
I knwo that Rachel is a stickler…but she also is a Rhodes Scholar and has a PHD in Political science, I think…one of her degrees is in Poli sci anyway….
Marc talks about arriving on the first day with his government for dummies and notes about the structure of the government…and he studied every minute…look at how much he learned and how great he ended up being in riffing off the cuff on real stuff…not just comedy day to day stuff, but news and facts.
I just dont see Reilly as having the fire to carry a movement…and in AAR’s slide to the bottom, I would be battling back as hard as I could.
But he has bills to pay and whatever.
Its radio.
Its interesting that hes reading the whole blog and not saying anything…
Reilly, if youre reading this…it wasnt about you as a person, it was about your researching and fact recollection.
Thats all..
Thanks for the whole story CK…very interesting.
I always thought that there were, like, 10 of us here, but apparently there are tons of lurkers.
Hey everyone!!
Blizzard is coming…yay!
Nite
Evening!:omg:
see what you get for being mean to riley!!!!!
Citizen Kahn. Are you saying that Riley reads this blog? Wow!
I disagree about Riley being lazy, or bluffing about politics. Riley knows nut and bolts politics like an expert. As far as generalizing, tell me which host doesn’t. Maron was no expert on politics. But who cares? Riley was the backbone o0f Morning Sedition, or the anchor. I was impressed with his knowledge and radio professionalism. What some people complain about is questions of style or vocal quality. But not his professionalism–or political knowledge.
A coupla’ old chestnuts come to mind:
and
That being said, let me ignore them, grab my shovel and jump in…
Criticsm — constructive or otherwise — always stings. More so from those who you respect. I’d venture that criticism from us, though we’re not in the biz, stings more than criticsm from DG. (Danny writes the checks though.) But ya’ can’t argue preference. Or stating it. I liked Marc the Shark well enough, but it was not my favorite. And even I bristled when Oliphant (I believe) came on MS immediately after the bit and trashed it. It really chilled the air for the balance of that broadcast.
Tact is a skill we all fumble from time to time. (Except concerning DG where we all kick perfect field goals.) In person you get the stink-eye, restate the bleedin’ obvious and move on. The written word is messier both in time and distance by not having eye contact.
Riley does not have to write bits and get his timing and character voices down. He brings to the party his knowledge and analytical skills. He is an activist and journalist and knows how to draw out the best — or worst — from someone he is interviewing. He does not have to practice punching the correct word in a bit. His digging can be done solo with a newspaper.
Now, I’m not coming to Riley’s aid — he doesn’t need my bloviating. I’m actually sticking up for myself: I’m an engineer and happen to do my best work after dark. My whole career got me looks when I show up at 9AM for work. Some others got there at 6AM and considered me “lazy” for plopping down at my desk with the paper and a donut. They left for home at 2:30. I’d head home at 9PM. But they never saw that.
Yeah, Mark Riley is settling in to his routine and tuning his program as he goes. We all complain about having trouble getting started without MS. Christ he has to do the show every morning without the folks with whom he built a finely tuned machine. Survivor angst PLUS a few less oars manned in the life boat? Sounds like fun to me.
But it is his job and he is doing it. And does it well. As one who has logged a miniscule amount of on-air time I assure you it is so much harder that you can imagine. And doing it in the middle of the night after the bosses pulled the rug out from under you and your friends. And some of your “loyal” fans become critical and snippy.
No, I don’t like sports. But Mark Riley’s show it not built for me — it is being built to drag in the non-choir members and open their eyes as to what is being done to our Republic. (And enteretain.) I can’t stand Springer, but if he can draw in the unwashed who loved his TV show that is super.
I want to be entertained; but we have to keep our eyes on the prize or we’ll get to be entertained and enlightened by Mark and Marc in a gulag.
My Catechist being done I end my rant.
1984!!!!! kick ass:banana:
:banana:Mark and Marc in a gulag.
:grin:does that mean we get them both together every day? even weekends? sweet:!::!::!::!::!:
hmmm i wonder if i ever said anything bad about riley on the blog:paranoid: wouldnt want to offend him!
Good analysis, Zeb. You know, I did graduate work in political science–big fucking deal! I read and study and think in political terms. Therefore, I believe I know a little about politics. . And I can recognize when some one knows politics. Riley certainly qualifies. True, he is not as radical as I am, but outside of Laura Flanders, maybe Pap, no one on AAR is. (So what!)
You speak for me on this, pretty much, Zeb. I listen to Riley damn near every morning. His show is much better than NPR’s Morning Edition. Where did the lazy rumour come from?
I think thay I will go over to Riley’s blog and read everything. You know, I have sent him a few notes, and posted a little on his blog; he has never replied.
I am the only one here. Shit!:omg:
i hate it when im the only one here:alc:
Nahh, I’m here — but I have to take to dog for a walk before it rips my arm off.
I believe it was Travis who wanted to be tested on a trivia item taht can’t be easily found by a Google search. OK:
What is it that can not be put on a ceiling?
Ask Jeeves my ass!
Hello, I am here. For a few minutes anyways:40:
a floor?
Yeah, Zeb. I like when you post because that’s one less thing I have to say. All except the part about being an engineer.
wait, wait….I was asking if someone had a unanswerable question. I was at this blog where they were asking questions, then someone would answer and ask another, and on and on. I wanted to stump these sheeple, or something. I finally figured out a good question and they skipped over it. They called me a thread killer:40: Anyway…
Yup, sean, I think you’re right on that one.
so what did you ask them travis?
where i am going in alabama to be scared by evil rednecks:paranoid:
It was actually a pretty stupid question. The type of question Bushie couldn’t anwser. “Name one thing that is wrong with this station” I was at a site of an affiliate of AAR.
Anyway, I’m lost in the fog right now. My right ear is screwing me up:ear:
:priest:hope you feel better travis!!!!!! oh and how did you get sound again?
Hey, travis! ๐
Riley is great at interviewing and doing news. Its just his style and delivery that is in question. Sometimes it sounds like he is trying too hard and sometimes he runs out of words. Think that maybe because he tries to cram a lot of things together going overboard in the process. This along with the unfunny nature of his show lowers his show’s attraction. He cannot be blamed for all this, though I feel he can do a little more to improve delivery. Lately he has started engaging in conversation with the guys in the booth and that I feel works out very well, given that his is not one of those radio voices like the one Malloy has who can do a show solo. None of this is his fault and he is trying to earn a decent living.
Let Riley be as he is; none of us bear any ill towards him from what I have read and heard here in this blog. Its just that most of us here are not his type of audience who would wake up early in the morning to listen to him. If you can grow your own fan base, well and good, and we wish you luck Riley. We will be sure to listen in more often, if you change the format a bit and bring in the funny , and if Marc is back, all of us will be back too.
I did not know the answer. I am psychotic!:omg:
It’s beenmy own fault for being out of it, will Marc’s show start Monday? Where can it be heard?
… heard live and later.
I just watched the testimony of Brownie and he seems like a man about to split wide open. He does not seem like he is willing to take the fall for the whole Katrina debacle. Maybe he will expose some things.
Is it being rebroadcast? The C-Span stream was scketchy for me when he was on live.
I’m gettin’ the feeling that I annoy you guys. So, I’m going to take a break from blog world, hop on a train, cross a bridge or two and see if I can expand my online persona to that of a real interesting and charismatic character. Iโve been stressed out and my creative qualities have suffered and Iโm sure have made for a pretty dull and predictable ride. See you sheeple on the other side.
I’m kind of conflicted about this break though. I’ll probably be back later tonight. I’m just in that state of mind.
Nice to see that you’re back King Kong. I hope you had a good trip to Wisconsin.(I hope that’s the right place or I’ll look awfully stupid)
Later
I am listening to Malloy on KPOJ. He just did a Katrina disaster collage. Let’s bring that motherfucking Bush regime down. And no clintonoid sociopath for the next dem presidential candidate, either.
:fu: Neocons! Fuck You Hypocritical free marketeers! Yeah, you, Senator Graham!:fu:
Thanks, travis, it was a good trip. Keep THE SEDITION EDITION going. It’s a blog I always check.
As far as we know, the show may be 2 hours and we’re pretty sure it’s starting Monday evening. But we don’t know what time yet. No mention on AAR or KTLK’s sites about it at all, at all! Are we gonna have to do a Maron watch on Monday?? ๐
It’s on Crooks and Liars.
Naaah, you can put a floor on the ceiling — ya’ just have to put it on top!
The trivia(l) answer is…the United States Flag. It is a breach of protocol to suspend it across the ceiling. From the ceiling hanging down is OK.
i like wisconsin wasau is cool nice little mall downtown
Thanks, Kristapea. It seems very vague for professionals. Oh well, it’s what we have to deal with. is KTLK the station Marc talked about?
I guess I need to do art–or read. So by for know (in case anyone gives a fuck. Hey, GAF! ICGAG!) :omg::sheep::rofl2::rofl2:
KTLK, yes, I found it. You’re right and my memory was off.
friggin waitress hasnt brought me my water been in here for like a half hour
GAF! ICGAG!
i dont get it?:fustrate:
Travis, there is no way you have ever been anything BUT intersting and charismatic.
With respect to the queasiness of others, how’s the outcome of your surgery been? I imagine the scabs are gone by now so the “crunchy” distortion of your hearing should be resolved. Next step is the swelling and scar tissue recession?
Besides, we are all silent movie stars on this blog — our voices are all nasally and squeaky.
Okay, well, it’s waaaaay past my bedtime. See you sedtionists in the morning.
Wyden getting a set! I don’t believe it.:omg:
Sean, I hate when that happens, but usually I realize I’m at home and have no waitress. Dang. ๐ฎ
In case anyone Gives A Fuck!
IC[A]GAF! Get it?
ICAGAF…seems to have a built-in recursion failure; That is ICAGAF.
yeah i still dont get it i must be stupid
:shock:watching loose change
what do they use to lubricate the anus in porn
Get it! Time to go again.
Hey! Does anybody remember when [Tom?] Oliphant came on Morning Sedition and criticized them for some routine? What did he criticize them for? I vaguely remember it. He is one on Franken’s star guests.
The Forward! Why is AAR running ads for them? Disclaimer. Where is the disclaimer?
dont remember sorry im useless tonight
the forward? i missed the ad what is it?
As I re listen. if
i hear, I’ll post.
Thanks for the Saturday post.
NickiRose–
It was a Mark the Shark routine. He came down on them pretty hard. I was particularly surprised because I used to enjoy listening to Oliphant on Franken’s show. My husband and I just sat there going, WHAT A DOLT! (Tom Oliphant, if you are lurking here, I stand by my statement! You had a tin ear when it came to Morning Sedition.)
:spank:
Did I? I must have accidently screwed it up when I was cutting out the Marc part. Ordinarily, I’d have done a nice fade in/out, but I was trying to get it up in a hurry. That’s what I get for not having a Mac. ๐
mp3 encoding is a way of compressing audio, so you won’t save much by zipping it up (you can re-encode it to a lower bit/sampling rate, but at a loss of sound quality, of course). If you want to send it by e-mail, then it works like any other file attachment. Most e-mail providers set at least some limit on attachment and/or mailbox size, so very large files might not get through. If you want to upload them to your own website, then you need to use FTP (which just stands for File Transer Protocol). There are a bunch of FTP clients out there that are free. I use SmartFTP most of the time, but there are a ton of them. I go for free, whenever possible.
I have a bunch that will work. Lately, I’ve been using Audacity, which is free (I’m not cheap, I’m thrifty), open source, and is available for Mac OS X, Winders, and Linux.

It wasn’t Tom Oliphant. Oliphant has a sense of humor and would never berate M&M. It was a famous historian as I remember. Not sure whether it was Stephen Ambrose??
David Halberstam was on after the Shark on April 8th. Halberstam gave a critique of the routine. Called it “odious,” there was “no charm in it,” and it added to the problem, made it worse. Then he went on to do a good segment on American ideals. Marc kept him over during the break. The two calls afterward (Jana[?] from California, and another caller, told them to keep Mark the Shark. Marc created comedy over odious stuff. I don’t know what the big deal is. Halberstam mentioned that perhaps he was deficient in humour. Anyway, he just remarked that the neocon satire routine was potentially damaging.
Someone should put together on CD all of the Marc the Shark routines.:rofl2:
