Get ready folks, for tonight President Obama’s presents his penultimate State of the Union address before Congress. And guess what? Everybody gets a pony! Everybody who doesn’t already have on, that is, as the Prez is going to propose raising taxes on the rich and giving the money to the not-so-rich. And let me tell ya, I’m confident that this proposal is going absolutely…. Nowhere.
Hey, it wouldn’t have gone anywhere even if the Republicans didn’t control the House and even if they weren’t in control (or had at least 41 votes) in the Senate. Let’s face it, at least half of the Democrats in Congress are really what we used to call Republicans before Republicans went insane. But, hey, it’s a nice idea.
Frankly, I’d be happy if they just wouldn’t gut Social Security and/or SSDI. OK, well, maybe not happy but at least somewhat less pissed off.
But then coming back to work on on the day after a three-day weekend, it’s pretty hard to be anything other than pissed off.
I can’imagine why anyone would want to be president, especially Hillary who has had a lot of personal experience with the consequences.
Miss these guys
I thought Obama did a pretty good job, last night. Of course the question is: will it get us anywhere?
Joni Ernst was pretty funny! She sounded like a well rehearsed high school junior in public speaking and generalities class. I missed the other four speeches from the Repubs but I’m sure I’ll hear about it today
I agree with your assessment, sp. My question was why didn’t he give this speech a year or two ago? Joni Ernst was hilarious, out of an SNL skit. Bread bags on the feet and castrating hogs lives on. Is she getting Veteran’s healthcare? Does she know her party voted against the Veteran’s job training bill? She professes that she came up from nothing so everyone can do the same, but the Koch brothers funded her campaign with millions. I never can understand women Republicans….or any rethug for that matter.
That’s Obama for ya. When it’s too late to make a difference, he gets right out there.
Meanwhile, here in NY, Governor Andy is promising everybody 100 Mbps Internet access. Yay! Then of course Comcast will take everything over, throttle down (or extort) their competitiors, and put a gradually diminishing data cap on everything.
Sanders/Warren 2016! Or Warren/Sanders 2016! Either one works for me.
Snotball is also promising more charter schools, more rigorous evaluations of teachers based on student tests and tax breaks for flks who contribuite to charter schools. This because the teachers unions didn’t indorse the jerk.
There has been a lot of pushback against all the testing and only 9% of prople surveyed supported using student test scores to determine teacher rating and therefore salary and promotions. The parents complain that it has altered the classroom relationship between student and teacher.
How could Mario have left us with this?
I’d take the Sanders <=> Warren ticket. I guess I’d prefer Warren as Preznit because it is about damn time we had a woman president.
At least you have funding for schools in NY. We’re 49th in that one. The job fair at OU was cancelled this year – no jobs. Our Repbulican gov is doing a smashing job, Failing Fallin.

I have no idea, of course, why that posted like that

Well I’m shocked. Shelly always struck me as such a classy, upstanding citizen.
He has been arrested. I hope their are pix. Apparently he said he “hopes to be vindicated” not “I’m innocent.”
By “be vindicated” I’m sure he means “keep this in the courts – and my ass out of jail – until I’m dead.”
But they confiscated $3.8 million from him, poor fella. So hopefully he’ll get a legal defense fund set up that we can contribute to.
Back quite a few years ago, there was an assemblyman from here that was the Majority Leader – Mike Bragman. He was a good guy – good union supporter. I used to get Christmas cards from him every year due to my union rabble-rousing. Back in 2000, he got fed up with Silver, lined up a bunch of support, and staged a coup. Except Hillary Clinton and H. Carl McCall stabbed him in the back and his support disappeared and he lost the vote for speaker by a huge margin. At which point Shelly stripped him of his leadership position and assigned him a broom closet in the basement for an office and cut his staff to nothing. Then Shelly redistricted all the people who supported Bragman out of office. It sent quite a message to anybody who would even think about challenging Silver again.
So this couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. See ya, Shelly.
Yesm Shelly is scum! I saw a picture of him in the back seat of a squad car. It looked as if his hands were behind his back. But no shots of Shelly in handcuffs which I was hoping use as my desk top, toilet paper, or dart board target. I can’t decide which.
What a sad sad ignorant man (and state that voted for him). I suppose a place with such deplorable education is expected to produce such a twisted man. I’d apologize, but I’ve never voted for him:

I’m just glad that I’ll be dead before things get too much worse. For those of you with concerns for future generations, well, sorry about that. The only thing we can hope to do at this point is mitigate the damage as much as possible and hope that younger, smarter minds can gradually undo the damage that continues to be done. Maybe Europe or China can fix things. I don’t have much faith in this country. I think by the time I croak, we’ll be an ignorant backward country with a crumbling infrastructure. Maybe not quite as bad as North Korea, but on our way there.
On the bright side, Jesus will be in our schools, laws, hearts, and minds.
Damn! Ernie Banks! Let’s play forever!
