Well, at least it isn’t snowing. But it was friggin’ cold and rainy this morning (and all day yesterday, for that matter). It was hot and humid when I went to bed on Saturday night, but I don’t think it got much above 50 yesterday. Fortunately, having gotten the grass cut Saturday, I took advantage of the shitty weather to put an outlet in my office in anticipation of installing the little $119 air conditioner I ordered in there at some point (window or wall, I haven’t determined yet – I’ve gone back and forth on the idea, and am leaning toward a through-the-wall install at the moment).
This involved crawling around in my attic (which is a pain in the ass), and yesterday was about as good a day as it gets for it. I actually had just about everything I needed – all I needed was a double gang old work box for it, and what with Home Depot being on the way to Costco, I was able to get that and still get to Costco right at opening time.
Of course I inhaled a shitload of dust and fiberglass whilst farting around in the attic, but, hey, that was expected. Now I’m ready for phase two (maybe as early as next weekend).
My home office faces due west, so it gets hotter than hell in there in the afternoon (especially since I’m generally in there with at least 150 pounds of dog and a lot of electronics), and I can’t leave the window open when I’m not there, because if it rains, everything floods.
If it had been up to me, I’d have chosen the room on the corner of the house for my office – two windows and a cross-breeze. But of course it wasn’t up to me.
It doesn’t look like there’ll be much need for air conditioning this week, though. I suppose that’s just as well, though it might be nice to use the pool one of these days. It’s only June, but with all the projects that really (really) need get done before the snow flies again, I can feel the end of summer upon me already – hell, in three weeks, the days start getting shorter again.
It’s a full five-day (on-call, even) week for me, so it should be pretty painful (it’s been filled with headache and nausea so far – I looked possible causes for that; trust me, you don’t wanna know).
Oh well, at least Monday’s half over.
$119? I may have to check that out. I think it’s going to be warmer here in V-Town than in SF and I am working out of the top of the house where it gets even hotter. I’ve got Lowes, CostCo, Best Buy, Home Depot, a Sears appliance store, and Target all about 2 miles from here. I need to buy a grill, too.
It’s just a little 5,000 BTU Frigidaire. I ordered it from a place called ABT, which I think is in the Chicago area. $119, free shipping. Same price at Amazon and Wal-Mart. No frills – no remote, no digital anything. Just knobs.
Thanks, I’ll check it out. It might be a little down the list for now. Probably more important to get a grill and a car with AC. It’s my first summer here. It may be breezy here so screening a few windows and fans may be all I need and hopefully for my “rumpus room”.
Yeah, I’d say definitely a grill first. Everything else is optional.
Not bad for 65 (though I think she may have had a little work done).
I hate Jenner. For some reason I ended up on the cutting room floor in ‘Can’t Stop the Music’ but he didn’t. Maybe I should blame director Nancy Walker though. I didn’t even get to hang out with Valerie Perrine.
😉
Seriously, though, even if he is a repug he has put himself in a position to be a source of jokes and ridicule and scorn in some quarters but he is brave. Waiting for Dennis Hastert’s reciprocation/solidarity move. Maybe he can coach a wrestling match with Mitt and Bruce for charity or a repug super-PAC.
It just strikes me odd that he very recently killed someone, even if accidently, and he has not missed a beat in his own personal quest to be a woman. And he is actively expoiting his quest with interviews, magazines and his own teevee show. I just can’t imagine moving past killing someone
so quicklyever. I’d like to think I would be in horror and want to hide…or more.If anybody is in the market for an 8-port, 16.8 amp USB charging hub, this one for $32 at Amazon looks like a pretty good deal.
I am and I’ll check it out. Thanks!
Oops, I was hoping to get something for all of my hard drives and iMacs and iBook. More of a hub thing.
Yeah, I stopped shaving too when I lost my job, before it became all the rage.
I don’t have Photoshop here at work anymore, otherwise I’d whomp up a Caitlyn Colbert photo.
