I was at work when I read about Art and Shep yesterday, and I started crying like a little baby. And I’m a miserable (and very manly, I feel compelled to add) old fuck. When you get to be an old bastid you’ve had to deal with a lot of loss in life.
If you’re an animal person, then you’ve had to deal with the loss of your best friends in the world. You lose your grandparents, your parents, friends and acquaintances. People you like, people you’re indifferent to, and people you feel kinda guilty about not feeling bad that they’re gone. Some of us out there have had to deal with the loss of their kids or their brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, whatever, in a pointless, illegal war.
No matter what, it always sucks. Even when you’re making a decision for a loved one that you know is the right one to make, it sucks. I’ve had to make that decision with pets, and it sucks. I had to make very much the same decision with my mother, and it sucked. As tough as those decisions are, imagine if you had people second-guessing you – demonizing you – in that most difficult of times. Imagine if it became national news, and a special session of Congress was used to enact legislation to interfere with that decision, the way it was for Michael Schiavo, and President Dummy came back from vacation to put his official stamp of idiocy upon the whole charade. How these people felt they had a right to interfere with somebody’s family matters like that is beyond me. It surely is the best definition of despicable I can think of.
Everybody I care about is hereby put on notice: you are NOT allowed to die before I do.
im number 1 im number 1!!!!!

 veggie monster is a lie!!!!!
so my roommate tells me they changed cookie monster to veggie monster i trust him so i took his word for it today i thought about it and finally did the vetting online and lo and behold it was not true!!!!! so i send him a text message asking him who told him this he says a teacher at the school he was student teaching at last semester i tell him it looks like a right wing smear campaign against a left leaning show and ask him if the teacher was liberal or conservative of course the teacher was conservative go fucking figure!
can those evil fucks ever tell the truth about anything? i was especially upset because i unknowingly spread disinformation to people i know thanks to this conservative fuck teacher and my roommate that did not question something a republican wack job told him lesson learned NEVER TRUST A REPUBLICAN

Maron on Conan Monday night (or Tuesday morning, depending on how you look at it). Looks like Conan has full episodes online, for those of us who need to sleep at night.
oh hey fred how close to fort collins are you?
Poor Mr and Mrs Art. I know how they felt. PJ has it exactly right…it sucks. And Anastasi is right that those pets, who are loved, receive much better end of life care than people.
I have been watching my mother fail for several years. In one sense, she is amazing as she has a strong heart and she is “healthy.” But, she is completely bed ridden, has alzheimers, cannot open her eyes and does not move. If she talks it makes no sense and is never more than a few words.
She told me many times that she did not want to end up in a nursing home, so she is in her own home, (though she doesn’t know it) with 2 attendants, 24 hours a day. And, every time I look at her I am appalled.
I do not want to end up in her position. Although she receives great care, it is not a kindness. This is not a way for a person to spend her last days. It’s degrading and without anything to redeem it. Were she in a nursing home I don’t think she would survive and if it were I in that bed, I would not want to survive.
Yes, but for now you have Siggy and Fritz (and great, adorable pictures)..and they will lick the tears away….
…Let me know if demanding not to die works. LBH :rofl2:
BTW I had a wonderful laugh and constant snicker about what your sweet lil teeth “playing” did :rofl2: awwww :rofl2: :peace: …….
I had cats “take me (& The Computer) down” once (years ago :hot: whew ) and the rats almost did same thing . :rofl2: 😮 🙄 A!I!V!

I thought that Don Siegelman was going to hold a news conference . last night. I don’t see any coverage of it and very little coverage of his release from prison, yesterday.
I intend to live forever! …in some shape or form, anyway…
There’s a lot to be said about Tom Lehrer’s take on how we go. :rofl2:
PJ, I have seen that tape of which you posted:
I saw 5 times at least…there is one perhaps older black men crying …but I might go with a husband 8 years younger (many times I say 10 cuz 8 is a 10 compared to a 5 (rounding up) BUT most around my age looks like those fine men, BUT I also saw SOME MY AGE AND AROUND MY HUSBAND AGE — NOT MY Grandmother’s age was = PLUS 30 YEARS My AGE NOR My Grandfathers age. which always has been 40 years MY AGE NOR My Great Aunt’s age when she died= 104 still “kickin” … she was the one I “watched” & and admired as a youth.– reminded me of Eleanor (my mother’s name) Roosevelt.
The above is why I question …. even whomever is a Barack supporter that made that film … there is already the ABUSE of the Elderly and that makes ME WORRIED OF THE YOUTH, which has not voted consistently — actually WHOMEVER that has not voted consistently! I HAVE IN THE PAST ….. unknown about the future. A!I!V!
Mrs Art and I want to express our deep gratitude and amazement that Sheps life and death could have affected people so far away but whom I consider close friends. The dialogue started about how we chose to deal the our own deaths and the deaths of our loved ones -whether they be pet, companion, parent or spouse is the defining moment for all our lives.
Mrs Art has spent her whole professional career dealing with senior governmental policies and the positive (and increasingly negative) ways that government affects seniors along with the attendant issues of hospice and pallative care.
Many of the elders she is in contact with have expressed a desire to move to Oregon where they may qualify to end their own lifes if they are deemed to qualify for some politician’s definition of how close to dead you need to be.
We must demand that we have as much control over our own lives as we do over our pets so that we can reduce or eliminate the needless suffering that our human loved ones must endure, kept alive artificially because of some politicians voting base.
Well, pj summed it up more eloquently in fewer words.
Just, thank you all again……. :gate: :om: :sdavid: :yinyang: :jesus: :cat: and :pup:
As long as the funny is happening here. However, I have not really checked out the demo of the audience.

…and PJ also re 13, I also have problems with them using a “shot” of a Polar Bear……… I do not mind showing the masses what is happening to the Polar Bears (and so many others) but to the person using Polar Bears as a political shot of Obama therefore I ask Obama, since all showing for humans MOSTLY …….. WHAT HAVE THEY (including Obama) DONE TO SAVE THE POLAR BEAR?…… A!I!V!
moronqueen 8) cool, now I won’t have to go alone. Tom Lehrer
:rofl2:  😉
None of this nor the rest of the grimness on the front page today will matter a bit, though, if two men pursuing a lawsuit in federal court in Hawaii turn out to be right. They think a giant particle accelerator that will begin smashing protons together outside Geneva this summer might produce a black hole or something else that will spell the end of the Earth — and maybe the universe.
Scientists say that is very unlikely — though they have done some checking just to make sure.

The man is indeed a genious, yes. If that black hole thing ends up being true, he may not be far from the truth! :tinfoil: :smack: :tinfoil:
But y’know, having close, close friends makes life a lot more enjoyable while we still have it to enjoy. Pass the love around!
Druid, it wasn’t an Obama video. It was Bob Cesca. And I have no idea what Bob Cesca has done to save the polar bears.
I just thought it was a well done very moving video he put together, and I’ve always liked that song by Roger Waters.
But, OK, Obama is the Antichrist.

The “science project” in question… This lab was being built at TexASS A&M but the Clintdork admin shut down the program .. Most of the worlds fundamental research in physics including the work on breeder fusion reactors is now being done at CERN,, with the same American scientists that would have liked to have done the research here. instead ..
Fundamental research doesn’t turn a profit .. :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason: :fist:
One has to remember that the scientists at White Sands New Mexico only had a vague idea of what they were doing in July 1945 too .. :reaper: :reaper:
The Polar bear is disappearing because its habitat is melting. If one was to hurry and fix global warming you will fix the problems with the Polar bear.. To bad they have to wait for someone to do something in multiples of two years .. :reaper: :reaper:
Just remember the problems of the polar bear when the ocean starts to flood the street in front of your house … better buy a good row boat and/or move all you “stuff” to the second floor. :tap: :tap:

I remember listening to Dr. Demento in my younger days (does he still have a show?), and he would play something by Lehrer just about every week, notably Poisoning Pigeons and Masochism Tango.
Which reminds me, I need to seek out a good Lehrer compilation. Thanks, mq.
You’re very welcome, Kevin! I think I stumbled onto his music via some of my fellow Wierd Al fans…the man is just brilliant. His song about the new math makes me feel so much better about my own mathematical issues. Good to know I was right in being so confused! 😆
(Editted for better link)
I always liked “National Brotherhood Week.”
MQ ..Lehrer yeh; U R 2 Young ….even though without you posting, Lehrer would vaguely be a passing memory to me, never to even remember his name. …A!I!V!
HahaHa New Math — I remember that one  … I knew you came from “a Family of the Weird” = “National Brotherhood Week.†HahahahaHa :rofl2: :billcat: …But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
It’s National Everyone-smile-at-one-another-hood Week.
Be nice to people who
Are inferior to you.
It’s only for a week, so have no fear.
Be grateful that it doesn’t last all year! :rofl2: Excellent!
mq, I keed.
I forgot about the Demento factor. I have 2 box sets which may be more than one needs.
TW3 was my favorite show when it was on.
eya Art.
just heard about shep.
sad to hear he’s gone.
Whoever posted that article about Scientology and Tom Cruise, THANKYOU! I have had more fun with that video than a barrel of monkeys! :rofl2: My friends reaction,

I keep thinking that if yous guys remembered your history as well as the pop culture we wouldn’t be repeating so much of it . :reaper: :reaper:
Sorry some of us don’t rise to your lofty standards and ‘intelligence’, f.
I find Obama’s rejection of Rev Writes comments very applauling.. When you find yourself president of the worlds most powerful banana republic ii is kind of like AA you have to realize you have BIG PROBLEMS before you can move to change them….Just shows how much pandering to the IDIOT MORON has to be done to get selected these days .. :yuck: :barf: :omg: :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason:
Thanks, f. I don’t even know some of those words. I’ll be up all night now after I figure out why the Kinks were banned for a while in the US and the NCAA tourney is over for the night.
Immersing yourself in what you find ( found) to be the joy of the moment might explain why we are in such a mess.. Not paying attention ..( at least it wasn’t FAUX news) . just like the “Good Germans” kind of like basketball .. I don’t know what to think when its a combination of the two .. :reaper: :reaper:
On the other hand I learn a lot about things I would have never thought to even think about :reaper: :reaper:
I like good food and drink, too. And humour! And some TV shows and movies. Then there is baseball and politics. Not too big on the books, more of a newspaper/magazine kind of reader. I am sure I have more shortcomings. Hell, sometimes I even enjoy reading the wisdom of fred.
We’re all doomed and it’s my fault!

Here’s something guaranteed to piss off you lofty thinkers who are far too cerebral to lower themselves to the level of we, the lowly working idiots struggling for the legal tender destined to repeat the mistakes of history with our damnable fascination with popular culture:
Congratulations to my old high school (and moronqueen’s too, now that I think of it), for following up their NYS Public High School basketball championship by winning the NYS Federation Tournament of Champions.
Sure, it’s not as important as complaining about all the people complaining about how the deck chairs on the Titanic are arranged, but I’m just a simple person, with a simple mind and simple ways.
Very nice, pj. When I was a kid our local HS won the WVa state championship in basketball and it was pretty big stuff for a little coal town. Yes, I said coal. :omg: The Mountaineers also came within a point of winning the NCAA led by Jerry West  and Mary Lou Retton’s daddy. Pretty big stuff for for a colonial coal :omg: state.
Yeah, well, these kids got to beat teams from NYC and Long Island, which is pretty nice for us upstate hicks. They have a weird system here in NY. First they go through the public schools and win the state title, and then they play the ‘federation,’ which includes the parochial schools (generally considered the better teams down there in New York City, I guess). This was actually the third federation championship for my old high school. Not that I really care all that much, but it’s always nice to get some good news once in a while these days.
And the SU lacrosse team won today, too. They’re ranked #2 in the country, and the #1 team (Virginia) lost, so we could be #1. Which is where we belong.
Paying attention to history
Damn, you are drinking …. fred , not only words Excellent BUT DRINKING ALSO :pirate: :yippee: , :alc:  :hubba: 😉
(The Computer is almost kinda sorta working)
Don’t forget to turn off lights at 8pm pacific

 Art & Mrs. Art — I am as heartbroken as you are at the loss of your Best Buddy Shep. Seems like he was the best of the best while he was here with you in body & spirit. Spirit never goes away, though, & he’ll be back with you at some point.
This grieving stuff & having to go through watching suffering & not being able to stop it is really totally horrible. I guess there’s something we’re supposed to be learning from all of this, but why do our very best friends have to be sacrficed for our learning curve? Doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m still trying to figure it al out.
R.I.P. Shep. You are the best. Come back to Mr. & Mrs. Art when you are ready (I’m sure they’d love to have you back as a Fritz or similar … I am still working on trying to understand all the “good German” traits he has bee displaying. Vet says he is definitely very much German Shepherd. That’s OK as long as he doesn’t go Nazi on us, which I don’t think he will.
I’m just tired of having to deal with my father who is very conflicted about Onkel Adolf and seems to have a great deal of guilt/or whatever because he was born into the time where you joined the Hitler Youth or were shot. I’m at the point where I just want to get a gun & blow my brains out so I don’t have to listen to his stories or my mother’s stories any more.
They were good parents in that they provided food & shelter. But they were never able to deal with their own trauma & pain and that is not something I could ever have done anything about but I somehow feel like they expected me to be able to fix their emotional issues. And that all gets very complicated.
PJ & I love watching “Arrested Development” for our own reasons.
I am at this point struggling with bronchitis & have felt like s**t for about 3 weeks. Stress isn’t helping.
Blue Cross/Blue Shield CEO locally has to have his 3 million $ bonus to make the share holders happy through the denials he’s able to justify. There’s some big time unrest festering in Hospital Land because of that.
It is so totally beyond disgust in my world that I just want to blow my brains out, but that wouldn’t make things better for anyone.
We really need to work together to get our planet back.
Overy & out …. I’m completely depleted right now
Oohh…good for the old high school, PJ! I’m not much of a sports fan (never have been), but it’s always heartening to hear good news, at least. I wonder if their arts programs are still going as strong as they were…choir and band really weren’t that bad for high school at all.
Ahh…nostalgia.
As for the rest…lofty thinker or no, there’s a time and place for everything. People who are determined to be 100% serious 100% of the time usually find themselves wondering why they’re miserable 99.9% of the time. People who are determined to be 100% flipiant 100% of the time usually end up wondering why it’s so hard to make ends meet or feel fullfilled in their lives 99.9% of the time. 50/50 is the way to go for many of us, and to hell with either extremist who want to change everyone else to fit their own skewed POV. :nana:
BTW, Vernon…all is good! I know I’m a whippersnapper with odd tastes in just about everything.
Hope you start feeling better, RG. Keep your eyes open for September. The house will be full of nutcases like us, so it should be a blast. It’s something to look forward to!
MWAHAH! LAST POSTER FOR THE NIGHT (maybe)! :alc: :pent:

Good reading here today. :omg:
