OK, maybe “the end” is being a little over-dramatic (though this headline: Trump Is Getting the Nuclear Football is pretty nightmare-inspiring). Either way, it’s finally here. The day we’ve been dreading since at least November (or maybe longer if you saw the handwriting on the bathroom wall pre-election, but were trying not to think about it). Personally, I know I’ve been living in denial for quite some time (a plan I intend to continue to the extent possible for the next 4 – 8 years, if not longer when President Pence gets sworn in). Not that I wanted this to happen any sooner than it already has, but it seems like it would have been more appropriate to hold the inauguration a week ago – on Friday the 13th. I hope this doesn’t turn out to be as bad as it seems like it’s gonna turn out. Sure makes you miss Dubya though, doesn’t it?
I’m really trying not to look at anything news related, but I happened to click to the lo-cal newspaper home page and saw the headline that shithead had taken the oath of office and was officially the 45th president.
It literally took my breath away for a second and I seem to be experiencing chest pains.
Now I know how Fred Sanford felt.
Aaaannnnd we’re back to the 1950’s folks. I haven’t been watching but friends have informed that anything to do with LGBT rights and climate change have been scrubbed from all government websites, including regarding civil rights. I just can’t believe this is happening. I can only hope the upcoming events bury the Rethuglicans so they’ll never rise again. I may need finer living through chemistry…soon.
My day was better than I expected. Sadly a friend’s wife broke her wrist and he ended up having to take her to surgery today. As a result I got to substitute for him at the rekkid store for 8 hours. That pretty much spared me watching any of the post-oath festivities. That did not mean I would miss most of the swearing ceremony. I had hoped to get it together to go out for a long breakfast but alas it was street sweeping day and given that massive storms are on the way I did not want to take a chance and not get my car moved since flooding is possible and the fallen leaves can back up the drains.
The truck didn’t come early today to make my early escape possible. Finally about 9 AM I heard the truck and went out to circle the block until it passed. After I got back in I had missed most of the shit and proceeded to get ready for work.
All I heard on the drive in was Obama saying farewell to his staff at Edwards. I drove around looking for a Bloody Mary and had one before reporting for duty. I didn’t even tailor an in-store place list to acknowledge the day even though the tune below had a lot to do with why this place exists. This highlight made me laugh and throw up a little at the same time.
Shut the fuck up, Donny.
RIP, Butch Trucks.
The first band I ever saw at the Fillmore East.
