Happy Dad’s Day to all you dads out there, and those of you who have dads or are married to (or otherwise entangled with) a dad or dads. It’s yet another holiday where I’m pretty much off the hook these days, which is sad in some ways but somewhat liberating in others. We’ve had a hot weekend here, so there was a little bit of pool time (not enough to justify the expense of it all, but, hey, whatever), and it’s still pretty darn hot out there now, but that’s supposed to end with the dreaded severe thunderstorms that will scare the dog (trying to figure out how to time his doggie downers so that I can maybe get some sleep tonight – not that they actually put him down for the count, but they at least seem to prevent him from having a stroke), but hopefully not cause any damage (good thing we don’t live in the Bible Belt, where Jesus seems to like throwing a scare into people every now and again. I guess He just figures we’re too far gone for that). I keep getting these weather alerts on my phone, but you can never trust those things. In addition to the thunderstorms, they’re warning me of flash flooding. Well, the pool needs some water anyway. Other than the terrified dog, the weather doesn’t scare me. Nowhere near the thought of going to work tomorrow, anyway, which fills me with dread. If there’s anybody who wants to move with me to Lake Chapala, let me know. I hear the weather is near perfect year ’round, you can live pretty cheap, and they don’t actually hate Gringos. Plus I think they’ll be able to make their border wall payments directly to American ex-pats, so there’s some supplemental income to be had.
PJ, didn’t you use a thunder shirt on one of your dogs? Doesn’t it work with this one? I am very lucky. Lola is npt afraid of thunder.
I did try them, but I don’t really think it worked. I think it quieted them down, some, but only because they were feeling smooshed, not because they weren’t terrified. When Siggy got old enough to get pretty deaf, it helped a lot. Unfortunately, he passed his phobia on to Fritzi.
I gave Fritzi 3 happy pills (300 mg of trazodone) last night, but he was still pretty nervous. I think he gets over it a bit quicker, though. It’s hard to tell.
Adios, Amigo.
Pj, can’t you find somewhere in Costa Rica? Mexican gangs scare me, even though I’ve never seen a Mexican gang.
Being in thunder ally, I lucked out in the dog/thunder world. My guys snooze on through them. Others around here spend many a sleepless night in the spring.
Sp, I thought of you and your daugher this father’s day. I’m sure it wasn’t an especially easy day for you. Please know I do think of you and send good thoughts…
I spilled water down the grill in the back of my new hp laptop. I’m typing on an attached keyboard. I found a guy who has been fixing compters since the ’70’s. He’s ordering a new keyboard for me and I hope that will cure my computer’s ills. It’s acting a bit hinky, but overall seems to be a-ok. The computer guy’s shop has certainly not been vacuumed since the ’70’s. If you need a CRT display part, he’s your guy.
From what I’ve read, the gangs and cartels aren’t an issue in that part of Mexico. It would be like Canadians being worried about moving to, say, Kendall, NY because they’re afraid of the Gambino Family.
OKat, thank you for your thoughts. I know you have experienced the feelings. Jenny is now a professor of Occupational Therapy. But, in a class the week before Fathers Day she was reminded of Mike and burst into tears leaving her poor students concerned and not knowing what to do. It left Jenny the same way. None the less we are all getting better.
Ah, the circle of life.
New Hampshire Republicans Accidentally Pass Law Allowing Pregnant Women To Kill People
That’s clearly sexist. They should also allow pregnant men to kill people.
One of the many reasons why I hope to never be forced to fly on a US commercial domestic flight again (though I think the TSA annoyances takes a back seat to the rest of the dehumanizing experience courtesy of deregulation and all-around corporate greed).
