It’s Friday, ya bastids! Oh, wait, wrong show. Anyhow, tonight marks the return of Bill Maher, and, unlike anything you’ll see on those Sunday bobblehead shows, it should be very interesting, as Bill has Russ Feingold, Eddie Griffin, Helen Thomas, and, just to get Nicki fired up, Dan Senor (now there’s a guy with “c*cksucker” written all over his face, am I right?). I don’t know who’s in studio and who isn’t, but I hope Helen Thomas slaps the shit out of this prick.
I gotta be honest, folks, this is the first time I have ever posted on a blog of any kind. I thought you should know what’s up. Brendan McDonald, Jim Earl and I have been working hard out here in the land where dreams come to die. We’ve been building the show, doing test shows, recording comedy bits, intros, outros, Jim songs (yes),finding new guests, and waiting to get on the air. It looks like we’ll have a launch date next week. The show will be live here in LA from 10PM-12AM. I have no control over what the network does as far as making the show available. I assume that KTLK AM 1150 will offer a live stream but I also know that is too late for folks on the east coast. I know there were initially plans to use material from my show on the morning shows but we’ve sent stuff we’ve recorded to New York and they don’t seem to be using it. We’ll see what happens when the show gets going.
I miss you folks. Everything out here is, well, pretty good. It’s nice to feel like I live in my house. It’s great to hang out with my wife (who is currently on the couch watching a live Iron Maiden DVD and singing along). The cats are all hanging out together. There’s still plenty of hissing and fighting but they are integrating. I bought a standard, four cylinder Camry and frankly I’m not thrilled with it. I’m chomping at the bit to get on the air and get the new funny going. We’re going to have plenty of comics, characters and righteous neurotic rage and yuks. We’re trying to create a late night hang out vibe so people will want to drop by and chat into the night. I talked to Tim Robbins on the phone yesterday and he’s going to help me out with some bookings. I’m going to see him at the stage version of George Orwell’s 1984 out here at The Actor’s Playhouse. He directed the show. I’m looking forward to it.
I’ll talk to you all soon. I’ve got to go outside and tend to my friend who I accidentally pushed out of my tree house two days ago. He’s hurt pretty bad but I just don’t want to tell anyone until I have my story straight. I’m just going bring him some water, tell him I didn’t mean to do it and to hang in there just a little while longer, maybe until we get on the air. Jim is generally good about these types of things and he’s hilarious when he is screaming in pain.

Is it really Maron, PJ?
How do we know for sure?:paranoid:
Morning Seditionists!!
damnit! i leave the blog for a few days and freakin MARON comes and writes us a message!!!! where the hell was I when this was all going down!???!:rant1:
anyway, it’s great to hear from Marc,as always. but this time, to actually come down to the level of us humble Seditionists! truely amazing!:banana:
that is, of course, assuming it was even Marc.:spank:
It would be incredibly inane and stupid for somebody to impersonate as Marc and post on this extremely intelligent blog giving details of the show. Hoping that it is Marc  we are closer to The Marc Maron Show than before. Though we can never predict what DG could pull off at the last moment 😡
hello hchaddha!
you’re right…we must beware the evil clutches of DG!!!:fu::fu::growl:
You know…you hear a lot about about “de-bunking”…..is there such thing as “bunking” in this sense?
Oh good….no longer Danishes….now they’re “Roses of the Prophet Mohammed” in Iran. This is insane. That might actually be WORSE than “Freedom Fries.” :fustrate:
Maybe the IRANians are demonstrating that they can be as insane as the rethugs.. .. wait.. is that possible ??… two groups of insane idiots… just what the world needs. I think ACE hardware still has shovels on sale..
I still “Believe” it was Marc, and I do not believe in hardly anything.

I just hope Jim’s okay recovering from the treehouse debacle. I say give it 2 or 3 days and Marc’ll be forced to do an interview on AAR related to the incident.
What do you all think ??
Should i post this note from an unsubstantiated Maron over on Riley’s blog ??
I feel :paranoid: regarding now “Roses of the Prophet Mohammed” in Iran. Before I thought something was suspicious when nearly everyone voted PRO The P Act. (Fill in after P…ie prick, “phuck , piss or whatever) …… They know something and I am suspicious and :paranoid:.

Gaijinda  That is the only part I have question. It sounds like something happened, but then again it could be The Funny regarding :barf: cheney or BOTH, since there has been a “RASH” of bizzare “accidents”.
re #12 Fred, I can see both sides. I think I am a little protective of Riley cuz — if one listens to KGO (as an example) they have “Normal Centrist” sounding voices during daylight hours. In The Night comes those like US.And in that “light” Riley does decently well. BUT RAY T IS ON TILL 6am (I think). Ray is pretty left wing so Riley might lose there.
What say you, Fred? Ultimately, I care not. :rofl2:

I am beginning to see all these congressional actions as more of a way to protect the congress from lynching by irate voters than Islamic terrorists.
Good morning :sheep:le,
Full disclosure. Bush is coming to Tampa this afternoon to deliver a “speech” on terror, or as he pronounces it, “turrr.” One syllable.
The early morning news guy at the local CBS affiliate has also taken to pronouncing the word that way. Turrr. He is usually very good at enunciating in both English and Spanish, so I’m not sure what’s up with this unless he has a man-crush on Bush or something. Creepy.
Anyway, once the Chimp concludes his fearfest on turrr, he’s going to Orlando for a fundraiser. I have to work and won’t be able to protest at either location, which sucks.
To make amends, I will be writing fan letters this weekend to Feingold, Byrd and Jeffords. Maybe we can send the Cowardly Lion back to Oz to find some courage for their colleagues.
Not to mention…

From Captn_Crusty over on Rachels blog
…VP Dick “Shoot-from-the-Hip” Cheney, while hunting the other day, “heard a bird flush.”
for those who know a lot about hunting and stuff. Do quail have toilets out there in the woods? And if so, then where does the wild bear…you know…?
Thanks Andy! Either I was incompetent in my search or all the info went into hiding! The minute I tried to track down the info, I couldn’t find it!
Guess it’s time for a terse email off to Murray and Cantwell. 😡
KPOJ has much better commercials than the AAR stream does but they have like ten minutes of them at the top and bottom of the hour. I hope Rachel doesn’t have anything important to say for three minutes after she starts talking.
I forgot my manners.
Good Morning Geniuses!
You’re welcome Gaijinda
Since Google has sold its’ soul to the Chinese, does anyone have a good alternative? I’ve tried a few but they’re not quite good enough.
P.S. Maron posting on the blog is Ultra Cool.
Thanks Maron for coming by and talking to us.
Looking forward to this:
😀
Morning!
a late night visit, eh? :santacool: usually arrives after you’ve gone to bed.
Listening to Marc in the morning. That’ll be odd. :yinyang:
Hey, Maron–what’s up?!?!?
Now that was a wonderful thing to wake up to today. (Of course it was Maron!)
Maybe PJ sent him the Gandalf (sp?) image from yesterday and he came to check us out. I agree with Beat, Fred–this was a message for us!
Be still my :love::love::love:!
Is there going to be any way to podcast the new show without shelling out money to AAR? ❓
Hey, y’all. I set up an account for Marc and e-mailed him the username and password, so yeah. That was him!
PJ, you’re the best!
The reaction on this blog was just hilarious: the Messiah comes back and no one recognizes him! If that wasn’t Maron, he’s just as good. Give him a new show.
The only bummer is i’ll be sleepy-sleep when he’s on so no contemporaneous blogging. but…ya gotta start back with something!
pj, i saw on yesterday’s blog that sirus will eventually have nascar (away from xm) and nfl. couple that with the info you posted regarding the resignation of a board member (?), and it doesn’t sound so hot for xm, yes? i’ve got xm and enjoy it. thought it might be a waste of $$$ but find it’s worth every penny. guess i’m wondering what your thoughts are, oh great blog leader.
Yes it was him :banana::banana::banana:
I thought the same thing!
It’s hard to say if all the money Sirius has spent can be justified in new subscibers. Supposedly, there’ll be new equipment coming out that will allow you to pick up both services on one device. The tricky part will be the antenna placement, I think. XM’s birds are geostationary, and therefore over the equator. Sirius had three geosynchronous birds that are in elliptical earth orbit, kinda north/southish (a little off to the east). The effect relative to the ground is kind of a figure eight, with the result that each bird is over North America about 16 hours a day. Here’s a picture of one of them (I had a nifty animated one of all three someplace, but can’t find it right now). They’re staggered so that two of them are alwys over the US. This gives the advantage of being higher in the sky at all times than the XM ones, but the disadvatage of always moving. I had a tough time getting a consistent signal at my house, and had to spend some bucks to mount a fancy-schmancy outdoor antenna on my roof.
There, that doesn’t answer your question, does it?
‘smartfunny’ I need some. :fustrate: Get Marc on air, 😡
Okay, so the show’s probably coming back – will we be able to stream it live? will it be archived so we can hear it the next day? Or if this the tree falling in the forest?
God, what stupid witless shows they have on AAR now, and they have no room? It’s like getting rejected from The Game Show Network. I mean, they give air time to Fat Tim Russert, and he’s against us.
Ah, here’s an animated picture of the three Sirus satellites, and the two XM ones (which are boring, since they don’t move).
Yay! Marc knows we exist! I was pretty sure it was Marc, I think I recognize his style. Shoot, am I to become a late night person now? I’ve been a morning person my whole life! This could be hard.
Thanks for the post Marc! Don’t let the fact that we’ve been desperately waiting two months for your brillant work to return to the airwaves or that we will probably riot if it doesn’t meet our expectations, put too much pressure on you 😆
andy – if it is transmitted, it can be decoded, recorded and stored. The only question is legal, and how agressive the owners want to be about stopping distribution. I’m on the east coast. If it’s only available from KTLK via stream, I’ll record the stream for my own use at the very least, and make it available online if there is some assurance of not getting sued. I’m moving the MS archive to its own server shortly so there will be room.
I’d (reluctantly) pay AAR or somebody else for podcast access, but only if Marc et al can confirm they are getting significant funding and support from them (which does not seem to be the case at the moment).
so sirus is spending big bucks on programming? guess we’ll have to see who can better manage a rapidly growing company. it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
thanks for the picture of the satellites-NOW i understand. mr farmer wanted xm because of the satellites. he hated using sat phones with the sirus technology. In kosovo they were a real problem.
If it’s like the other shows at KTLK, they have a live stream, and then they keep a certain number of past shows available (quite a few) for “on demand” listening.
Now, whether AAR will quash that, I don’t know. There’s always a premium subscription to AAR, or a one-time investment in Replay AV or Replay Radio.
We’ve got some pretty nasty wind moving in (dropping from 59 right now into the teens by overnight). Already 66 mph winds in Rochester, 50+ in Toronto, according to the local weather geek. Hopefully the power will stay on.
Maybe the blog for the new show can be called The Treehouse. Although, I really like this blog and am not looking forward to “uprooting” myself yet.
It would be great if Marc’s new show could have a webcam like Young Turks. Then we could see the show that happens during the breaks.
PJ, KTLK has changed its policy now. They stopped posting the current shows from the day AAR went premium. They have now started posting only part of the shows (not even the current shows are online. The latest ones are from Feb 14th).
Guess DG had a talk with KTLK :rant1: :spank:
Comment by Kristapea
Me, too, krista! It might be fun to try changing habits:billcat:
I think the webcam thing would also be something that would create a “late night hang out” .
So, we won’t be able to even get the previous days show until days later?? That’s no good. You can’t do that with topical shows.
Yeah, Isi, I might be BUI, blogging under the influence.:40:
What…is Jim Earl’s like a “Kato Kalin” living in Marc’s backyard treehouse? 😆
Comment by Kristapea — February 17, 2006 @ 8:25 am
Majority Report has done a couple of webcam shows. One was during the SOTU address and then a couple of days ago with Michael Stipe from REM. It was only available to Premium Subscribers.
Krista, thats what it looks like from the podcast section at KTLK. Replay AV or Radio is the way to go if one cant get the stream during normal listening hours. Thanks  PJ.
Morning! What’s all of this Maaron posting stuff?:rofl2:
Which post was it?:rabbi:
Bust Big Radio Payola
Ever wonder why commercial radio has become a mind-numbing repetition of the same songs by Jessica Simpson and Celine Dion? It’s not just you. Corporate radio in every town has become a wasteland. And in many cases, it’s a crime.
An investigation airing tonight on ABC News “Primetime” exposes illegal payola across the radio dial. Radio conglomerates that control hundreds of local stations are taking bribes to endlessly spin major label acts, keeping independent artists off the air.
FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adlestein calls big radio payola “potentially the most widespread and flagrant violation of FCC rules in the history of American broadcasting.” But the FCC’s Republican leadership remains reluctant to crack down against the corporate radio giants that have sold off our airwaves.
Tell the FCC to Bust Corporate Radio Payola
This new age of payola is the product of consolidated radio ownership. Several of the largest radio conglomerates in America — including Clear Channel, Viacom/CBS radio and Cumulus — are among those now under subpoena in a criminal investigation by the New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.
Spitzer has exposed a shadowy network of promoters hired by the recording industry to launder hundreds of millions in cash and prizes each year, lining the pockets of big radio broadcasters who agree to spin corporate acts nationwide.
“They thought the FCC was asleep, and they shot someone in front of the policeman,” Adelstein tells ABC News. “The policeman is obligated to act when evidence is so clear.”
Tell the FCC to Stop the Abuse of Our Airwaves
The airwaves belong to the public — not the media companies with the fattest wallets. Any broadcaster in violation of payola statutes could face severe FCC sanctions and even the loss of their broadcast licenses.
But the FCC won’t act unless they feel pressure from you. Please take action today.

He posted early this morning on the Thursday blog. Travis reposted it here–#1, quite fittingly.

Maron’s post was #233 on yesterday’s blog and Travis reposted it as #1 today.
So, I wonder why they haven’t been using the stuff that Marc has been sending. Is that up to Rachel and Mark or their producers?

Hey Nicki, as to your question as to whether we live in a democracy. I don’t think we do anymore.
We have never lived in a democracy. From the beginning, those with power and wealth have worked hard to keep the majority down. On the other hand, there are democratic forms here. (And we are very free to organize! Speak out! Protest!. :rofl2::rant1::omg:)

Cold as hell this morning. Wind is starting to blow, too.:omg:
So, this is wierd. At 10:24 pm last night I got a picture message from “unknown” and when I went to go look at the picture I got a page that flashed briefly then turned into an error page. The page that I saw before that said “message from Randi Rhodes airamericaradio.com”
I am not sure how Randi/airamerica has my current phone number, it seems I registered on her page before i got my current number. I also saw that there was a similar message from August but when I went to that there was nothing there and I couldn’t get out of that page unless I shut the phone down. Weird. Anyone else get a message from Randi?
Oh wait, I know how AAR would have my number. When we were writing everyone about MS ending I sent several picture mails to DG and AAR from my phone. WTF?
Speaking of commercials, anybody catch that hysteria-inducing one that tells you to have a battle plan in case of a terrorist attack? Brought to you by Homeland Security.
:omg:
I got a Randi message through my e-mail account this morning.:rofl2:
What did it say? I usually get mass emails from her but i didn’t get one.
Good morning everyone! Nice to hear from Marc…its too bad that AAR has been so bad that we’ve lost our innocence as far a believing anything.
Id love to see the blog called MaronNation, since we know he likes that one and it is cool…would be great on T-shirts!
But I do hope that we can somehow integrate this blog…I hate to blog on an AAR owned site at all because next thing you know they will decide to charge per post or some such…
Anyway, Im just running through and trying to catch up on the blog.Did anyone see the Red State trailer that Randi sent out the link to in her email? I put the link on RIPCoco…also I put this week’s Dowd there too because its so great and even though Im late with it, its still timely, even as the WH says CASE CLOSED…Im just too into saying “Cheney Shot a Man, Just to Watch Him DIE!!!!
So this story isnt gonna die…unfortunately for ol’ Whit, this isnt about his injury, but more about who these people are.
The sneering karate instructor and his brother made the mistake of spouting something abotu my LIAR button last night…The younger brother was joking about my Blob”…because I honestly think that he doesnt know what a Blog is. Heh…anyway, I told him that he was a stupid idiot. Hes from Florida, in his early 20’s, and thinks that all news comes from FOX. His brother told him seriously to shut up. I think he realized that they had gone too far.
Its a little slice of neocon in an otherwise blue area, so I cant complain (besides that the plow guy went over one of my big Impeach signs…no on purpose, so its not as bad as some things that have happened.) I just keep reminding these numbskulls that their votes mean nothing in this state and that no one around them agrees with them…they are an island of idiocy and agressively stupid on so many levels….that they even want to talk to me about it, when they know that I know about this stuff…they have no answers…but it is just like the Red State trailer, so I am studying them to try to understand.
If a guy is a small business man and he holds up his bill envelopes and says that all he is interested in is paying these….I say what has Bush done for you in that area? All your bills are higher thanks to war….he says well, could Kerry have done better?…Well Clinton got a blow job…and Chris Matthews is too liberal for him….
OK….Im done…
SeanieSean…I was thinking of you down there interacting all over the south with these bozos. Im disturbed by one or two…it could be SO much worse!!
Ive got to run…
PJ, thanks for giving Marc an account. I hope he’ll be checking in.
Marc, if youre there, you can use the human/animal hybrid idea…and also the plushies…I guess you had to be there and we are funny starved, but, it was pretty funny at the time….was that Sunday? Saturday?…and Bruce Cherry should do an animal/human hybrid of the week…or maybe Sammy can get in on that! Hell, our white house seems to be full of them…Rat/human.

Hey Nicki, I found Randi’s newsletter in my other yahoo address.
Nicki: Hartman said that his house boat was rocking so badly that he almost fell down when he got up to go to the b-room in the middle of the night. Isn’t this weather a bit weird for Portland ??
Are the DHS PSA’s on AAR or just on KPOJ ??.. They are kind of different compared to the ones for debt consolidation and teeth grinding. Do you suppose that going to the grocery store will be illegal when they declare martial law ??
We were told to expect a cold spell. Frequently. arctic east winds blow through the gorge, and make everything very cold.:rofl2:
Yeah, we’re getting a cold snap too. Only 70 degrees today! It’s been getting to the 80’s lately.:paranoid:
I was listening to KPOJ during Riley’s show when the DHS commercial came on. “Duck and Cover!!”:omg:
Well its gone from about 11 at 2 am down to 5 now. It was snowing but it usually doesn’t do that when it get really cold
Hey guys!!! What a perfect day! You could tell that was Maron for sure when he refered to the tree house thing. I can’t wait to hear more about that.
Thanks Patrick and all the rest of you ,too!!

Hey, can someone tell me about this ReplayAV? I have a Radio Shark, which won’t do me any good if Maron’s show isn’t broadcast in NY, because it’s just a radio receiver that lets you record the radio to your PC. I also have a product called Advanced MP3 WMA Recorder, which would do the trick except someone has to be awake to set it off.
So what I need is something that I can set on a timer to launch the stream and record it. Any ideas?
Yikes!!!The wind here in the Columbia River Gorge are wicked! I listen to KPOJ and have been pestering them regarding Marons show–they say the details are being worked out.Did I see in recent posts, someone else listening to KPOJ??
I haven’t really heard anything outside of my own head since reading Marc’s post.
The Maronites. Too fucking funny.

Great visit from Marc last night! :billcat::billcat::billcat::billcat:
Mishna seems happy.
And hoping the hotel in Astoria has HBO for Bill Maher tonight.
PJ that wasn’t me and probably not Marc in Astoria on a Mac before but it will be me tonight.
Did you all know they have Bill Maher podcasts on iTunes?
Was listening toBill and Helen Thomas from last season.
So Replay radio isn’t available for the Mac.
Quite honestly I have been so depressed and finding no reason to get up so friggin early that I have been getting to bed later and later so I can easily see having a couple of hours knitting with the Marc Maron show.:sheep::sheep::sheep:

Despite Fears, a Dubai Company Will Help Run Ports in New York
Well, that was interesting. As I was driving up to campus, the guys on the radio were talking about windows being blown out of buildings. Then a guy called in to say a tree crashed into the street he was on, taking down some powerlines, which set the tree on fire. Just then, I had to turn around, because a big-ass tree was blocking the road I was on. Then the guy on the radio said something that sounded like woe – and then the went off the air. I managed to make my way around another downed tree, dodging flying trashcans, recycle bins, and aluminum siding all the way, trying to find a place to park that wasn’t under a tree (which is hard around here). When I got out, it was about 20degrees colder than when I left (so I was woefully underdressed), and it was freakin’ cold.
Several blocked streets and lots of flying debris on the way home, but the power’s still on (unlike 41,000 other people around here, according to the news), and our trees haven’t lost too much (yet). The news site says winds up to 81 mph, so far, and 1,200 911 calls. Not as bad as our infamous Labor Day storm of 1998 (we had no power for two weeks; it was starting to get a little old), but definitely a little breezy out there. I guess we’re lucky it isn’t snowing.
The dog is gonna be disappointed if he thinks we’re going out for walkies.
Windy times out here in Stumptown: An upwind neighbor put out the recycling…which included several bags of documents run through a paper shredder. My unmowed lawn now has a really festive appearance! Temperature down into the teens tonight, winds sustained 35 MPH. Aw, big babies…. Yeah, we can deal with volcanic ash from St. Helens, but COLD?
Astoria, Queens? Who’s coming to Astoria tonight?
Well, I tried to explain to the dog that it was really too damn windy out, but he wasn’t buying it. When he gives me “the look” and gets all wiggly, I can’t turn him down. So, we took a walk over on the canal, and damn, now my face feels like it’s been sandblasted. About 80,000 w/o power around here, so far. It was 60 degrees this morning, and now they say it’ll be below zero tonight. I better not lose power for my SciFi/Bill Maher Friday, damnit!
Damn, I’m home sick and Marc shows up and I fuckin’ MISS all the fun! It’s okay, reading is reading.
(Marc, if you come back, we want your mac and cheese recipe.)
Speaking of mac and cheese, I have some in the slow cooker and if it turns out good I’ll share the recipe. In the meantime, here’s an approximate recipe for what I’m having for lunch.
First I’m cooking up enough spaghetti for two (I plan to have leftovers.) I’m reconstituting a handful of dried wild mushrooms. I’ll drain them, reserve the soaking liquid, and chop them up. I’ll saute some garlic and maybe onion in a saucepan until fragrant, and add the mushrooms to the pan. When that’s heated through, I’ll add some dried marjoram (and maybe some fresh thyme and savory if it didn’t freeze overnight since it’s outside) and the soaking liquid from the mushrooms. I’ll add a little vegetable broth, and a scoopful of the water in which I cooked the pasta and let it simmer until it’s starting to thicken, then add a handful of frozen peas. When that’s all heated through I’ll add the pasta and maybe a little bit of butter or olive oil. And then I’ll eat it. I’m not adding cheese because of this cold (dairy is bad for colds…the slow cooker thing I have going is for my freezer for future lunches) but I think this’ll do just fine. I might put in a shake of smoked paprika since there won’t be cheese in it.
And then I’ll go back to sneezing at C-Span as I knit. (Dear heavens, I’m domestic when I’m sniffly!)
Remember, next time we see or hear from Marc, I (and others) are determined to get his mac and cheese recipe. I think we should have a mac-and-cheese-off. Maybe get Lewis Black to judge. (Then I can run off and marry Black and everyone will be happy. Except maybe Black.)
SisterTea, there are a bunch of us in the Portland area who listen to KPOJ. Are you somewhere close enough that you could join us at a get-together? I’m thinking it’s time the Portland Seditionisti got together again.
Hey, Ol’ Zeb, my friends who moved to Portland from North Dakota have been :rofl2: over the phrase “Arctic Blast” for two days now. Yeah, it’s windy as all get-out (PJ, I congratulate you on your courage. Here it’s so windy I refuse to subject Faraday the Small and Brazen to the danger of flying at the end of his leash like a fuzzy kite…) but the temp won’t be going below 29 today. Above, I mean. Maybe it was all those years in Colorado that hardened me up but this STILL doesn’t seem cold.
Okay, back to THE ISSUES now!
The Mad is Not Out of the Question
Stopping the War on Iran, Before It Starts
By GARY LEUPP
I have thought for a long time now that the U.S. would attack Iran. I know that the experts have said this simply isn’t possible so long as the U.S. is bogged down in Iraq, and that Jack Straw has stated pretty clearly that Britain won’t be on board if the U.S. decides to use its “military option.” U.S. domestic opposition to the war on Iraq has slowly risen to about 55%, and there is no groundswell for a third war in Southwest Asia. But the U.S. has for several years called openly for “regime change” in Tehran, and while early on during the Bush administration Colin Powell’s State Department opted to court reformers in the Iranian government, the neocons in power have long since put their bets of the underground opposition. They don’t negotiate with evil, as they like to say; they plan to defeat it.
Condi Rice has once again denounced the Iranian regime as bent on “political subversion, terrorism, and support for violent Islamist extremism,” and (as the neocons always do) depicted Iran as “a strategic challenge” not just to the Bush administration but to “the world,” “the international community.” U.S. arm-twisting of the IAEA has paid off to the extent that the agency has found Iran “in non-compliance” with the Non-Proliferation Treaty and seems poised to “report” or “refer” Iran to the UN Security Council for some sort of action next month. To the chagrin of many (including myself) the Indians, Russians and Chinese caved in to the tendentious, selective statement on Iran earlier this month, joining forces with the U.S. and lending credence to the Bushites’ depiction of Iran as a lawless loner defying the whole of respectable humanity. Whatever happens in March, Bush will be able to use as political capital the September and February IAEA statements as he goes to the American people seeking support for some further action.
Just as it built the case against Iraq, the administration has tirelessly prepared its brief against Iran, discarding no exile’s report nor putative terror link as implausible, no assessment of nuclear capability as alarmist. It’s rushed to make bold charges (about traces of enriched uranium on centrifuges purchased from Pakistan) that it has had to quietly drop. Washington obviously wants to find reasons to attack Iran, and would be delighted to discover a full-fledged illegal nuclear weapons program buried in the bowels of the Islamic Republic. That’s why the Iranian nuclear program is all over the front pages, and why the embedded press has taken to alluding matter-of-factly to “Iran’s nuclear weapons program.” (As though it, in its journalistic objectivity, knows there is such a thing, and that that the journalist’s job is to encourage anxiety about it!)
There’s surely enough material to fill up another hour of the UN’s time should Rice decide to follow Colin Powell’s act in February 2003 and ask the “international community” to validate another criminal assault on a sovereign state… http://www.counterpunch.com
I wonder how the Republican war on terra weenies will spin this:
Well, I tried to explain to the dog that it was really too damn windy out, but he wasn’t buying it. When he gives me “the look” and gets all wiggly, I can’t turn him down.

IDF Establishes “Israeli Only” Crossings
By AMIRA HASS
A military order that took effect last week bars Palestinians with permits to enter Israel from entering via the roads that Israelis use to enter the country from the West Bank.
The order also forbids Israelis to transport Palestinians with valid entry permits via these roads. Instead, Palestinians must enter via one of the 11 crossing points earmarked for them. Until now, Israelis could ferry Palestinians with valid permits into Israel without going through one of these special crossings.
The Defense Ministry’s Seam Line Administration has posted signs at all other access roads from the West Bank into Israel warning that non-Israelis may not use these crossings. However, the signs explicitly define “Israelis” not only as citizens or residents of the state, but also as tourists or anyone entitled to immigrate to! Israel under the Law of Return.
“The IDF was forced to change its deployment because of the exploitation of the crossings by terrorist elements to carry out terrorist acts inside Israel,” the Israel Defense Forces Spokesman said. The spokesman also stressed that transporting Palestinians via an “Israeli-only” crossing is against the law, and will be punished accordingly.
The order was signed by Major General Yair Naveh, the commander of the IDF forces in the West Bank, on December 15. It authorized the Civil Administration to determine which crossings could be used by non-Israelis, and also to determine “the arrangements that will apply at these crossing points.” In addition, it defined who is an Israeli, using
the same language that is now posted on the signs at the various crossings…

Israel cuts Jordan Rift from rest of West Bank
by Amira Hass; Ha’aretz; February 16, 2006
While the international community busied itself with the disengagement from the Gaza Strip last summer, Israel completed another cut-off process, which went unnoticed; In 2005, Israel completed a process of sealing off the eastern sector of the West Bank, including the Jordan Rift Valley, from the remainder of the West Bank.
Some 2,000,000 Palestinians, residents of the West Bank, are prohibited from entering the area, which constitutes around one-third of the West Bank, and includes the Jordan Rift, the area of the Dead Sea shoreline and the eastern slopes of the West Bank mountains.
Military sources told Haaretz that the moves have been “security measures” adopted by the Israel Defense Forces and have no connection to any political intentions whatsoever.
Restrictions on the movement of Palestinians in the Jordan Valley were imposed at the start of the intifada and were gradually expanded. But the sweeping prohibition regarding entry into the area by Palestinians was imposed after security responsibility in Jericho was given back to the Palestinians on March 16, 2005.
At the time, Palestinian sources say, Palestinian travelers coming across the Allenby Bridge (the West Bank’s only direct link overseas) were banned from passing through the Jordan Valley even if they were heading to the northern West Bank and the villages adjacent to the valley’s checkpoints. Instead, the travelers are required to go through Jericho, and from there, the road is long and filled with checkpoints and delays.
Since then, residents of Jericho and the remainder of the West Bank have been banned from passing through the Ouja checkpoint, north of Jericho, in the direction of the Jordan Valley. . . http://www.zmag.org
Oh, he’s got a nice big fenced-in back yard for that. This is purely recreational.
Good morning/afternoon geniuses!
Sorry I doubted the visit from Maron but hey, when I clicked on his name last night all I got was an empty screen with a url that only said: http://localhost. Period, nada. Also, since he posted in the wee wee hours and it only showed three people on the blog, and it was travis, myself and Gaijinda, it seemed strange to me that he would post when almost noone was here, and from an address that yielded nothing when clicked. Duh.
But now that pj’s confirmed, I’m thrilled. Thank you Marc; take a bow  Oh, *we’re* supposed to bow. Ok.
😆
I am impressed to see Amira Hass articles posted here, I’m glad this crowd hasn’t been co-opted by the zionists. In case anyone here is thinking I’m anti-Jewish, be assured I am Jewish lineage myself with a surname to prove it. And Mom is half Jewish, half Irish (I could riff on inheriting guilt and shame both, but never mind right now). So that makes me a self hating Jew for the zionnazis who would claim that. Fine, I honestly can’t tolerate talking with those people, they’re deluded fanatical morons. So the feeling’s mutual betwixt me and them. 👿
I’m reading a fascinating critique of my current hero and secret heart-throb Norm Finkelstein (I feel safe telling you all, he won’t know – hey, for all I know he’s gay, married, in a relationship, who knows?) by an excellent Palestinian PhD candidate in Madion, WI, I think. It’s at home (I’m at work today), so I’ll post an excerpt of it another time. Important reading, and it’s always good to keep on challenges to even our most cherished heros (sigh, sorry, Norm, it was good while it lasted, wasn’t it?)…
Is it interesting that every time people are critical of Israel, they must also announce that they are not self-hating or anti-semitic? (It is much better now than it used to be, though.)
:omg::sdavid:
What would Blessed Sharbel do?
:rabbi::rofl2:
“[Theodore] Adorno says that in the 20th century the idea of home has been
superseded. I suppose part of my critique of Zionism is that it attaches too
much importance to home. Saying, we need a home. And we’ll do anything to get a home, even if it means making others homeless.
“Why do you think I’m so interested in the binational state? Because I want a
rich fabric of some sort, which no one can fully comprehend, and no one can
fully own. I never understood the idea of this is my place, and you are out. I
do not appreciate going back to the origin, to the pure. I believe the major
political and intellectual disasters were caused by reductive movements that
tried to simplify and purify. That said, we have to plant tents or kibbutz or
army and start from scratch.
“I don’t believe in all that. I wouldn’t want it for myself. Even if I were a
Jew. I’d fight against it. And it won’t last. Take it from me, Ari. Take my word
for it. I’m older than you. It won’t even be remembered.” You sound very Jewish.
“Of course. I’m the last Jewish intellectual. You don’t know anyone else. All
your other Jewish intellectuals are now suburban squires. From Amos Oz to all
these people here in America. So I’m the last one. The only true follower of
Adorno. Let me put it this way: I’m a Jewish-Palestinian.”
:nixon::rabbi::sdavid::peace:
:rabbi: Blessed Maron Sharbel!:omg:
Start thumping on your AAR affiliates…between contractual obligations and hidden agendas loud listeners have some imapct — April seems to be contract renegotiation time for AAR:
Of course ignoring listeners is always an option: the local weather reader on KPOJ pronounces “temperatures” as “TEM-pit-erz” an exact rhyme of “trumpeters” despite my polite requests.
WTF! Do people think they can make up their own goddamn words! Next thing you know they’ll be making up rules! Oh wait, they’re already doing THAT!:fustrate:
Ah, to be on the West Coast…. My current lifestyle would let me listen to Maron from 10 – midnight, but I don’t think I could manage from 1 – 3 AM. I’d gotten used to waiting for the Podcast, after the XM deal, so I guess this won’t be too awful bad.
Jim Earl has slightly updated the message on his page:
I don’t know if that was before or after Brother Marc pushed him out of the treehouse.
I, at least want to hear half of the show live but I know I won’t be able to TURN IT OFF, so I guess I become a night person now. I’ll probably still get up friggin’ early though.:???:

The things we put ourselves through for the funny. 🙂
Personally, I’d be so wound up from laughing by the end of the show that it would probably take me another hour to get to sleep. Kinda like when you were a kid and tried to go to sleep on Christmas Eve to get Santa to come.
Sounds like I can put off iPod shopping for another weekend.
Hey, it’s funny how everytime an anti-zionist explains how they’re not a self hating Jew, someone has to say “isn’t it interesting that people criticizing Israel feel the need to say how they’re not anti-‘Semitic’ or a self hating Jew”? Uh, yeh, there’s a reason for that, many reasons as a matter of fact, too long a list for me to post, but it begins with, Daniel Pipes, Doug Feith, the JDL, Paul Wolfowitz, and you can keep going from there. You think you’re yanking my chain? :jerk: :rant1: I strive to be a citizen of the world, but the fake Jewish left (Michael Lerner, Chomsky – hey, sorry, but yes; maybe even Norm Finkelstein now, though maybe not, I don’t know), but anyway the fake Jewish left has got the non-Jewish progressives thinking that a theological state calling itself Israel had and has the right to commit land theft, violate international law from the get-go (not just in the last few years – it started with the Theodore Herzl, kabbish?), stockpile the largest nuclear cache in the region (here’s to you Mr. Vanunu, long may you rant against the Israeli nazis!), and create an entire industry around convincing Americans from elementary school on that they’re the victims forever and ever and ever. I tell you, I am sick of the internalized Jew-hatred fostered by f*****g Herzl and the zionoids, that Jews, rather than struggle with fellow oppressed people in the countries they were residing in, should isolate themselves in an artificially created state – ’cause we’re so fuckin’ special. Fuck that shit!!!!!:fu: Not you, NickiRose, you probably had no idea what a lather this works me up into, but boy does this push my buttons.
Oh, and we were residing in those countries because we were exiled from the promised land. Fuck no! The original zionists and their followers believe and still believe that there is a pure Jewish race and that it’s been sullied by contact with ‘the goyim’. There was never a pure ‘race’ on the face of this planet, since homo sapiens walked out of Africa. Never. Ever. DNA research is proving it. Humanoids have been mixing sperm and egg since we ever could. You know, the early zionists worked with the Nazis to get rich European Jews to give over their money to create Eretz Israel, and to get poor European Jews to move to a desert environment totally alien to them. (Me go live in the desert, for even a week? You’d have to hook me up to a saline IV the whole time to keep me hydrated. But give me the Russian steppes, now you’re talkin’!). But we’re so fucking special, yeah. What a load of crap. “We’re” as special or nonspecial as the rest of the inhabitants on this planet. One memorable quote from Norman Finkelstein’s mother in his book The Holocaust Industry is something to the effect of how she wanted to have nothing to do with the zionists, because she saw how they operated in the old country.
Ok, I think I’m winding down from this rant, for now.
😮 AAAAGGGHHH :rant1:
Well, the Chimp made it out of the wilds of Tampa to his fundraiser at Disney.
The “sympathetic audience” that subjected him to “gentle questioning” was due to tickets being distributed exclusively by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Any guesses as to which party those folks might belong to?

The local ABC affiliate, where my sister-in-law works (she’s on the tech side and has nothing to do with content), provided MAJOR ASS KISSING coverage of this event. I had to change the channel by the time they got to the second correspondent. So much for liberal media. :barf:
Oh well, at least Washington Week should be interesting tonight, assuming they cover the Cheney facial, which I think is a pretty safe bet. Time to :40::40::40:
Nope, not done yet:
I rail (rale?) against the term anti-Semitic being popularized as anti-Jewish. Many of you already know that Arabs and Jews are all Semites according to the anthropologists and geneticists. So, seriously, I consider anti-Semites to be against Arabs and Jews both, despite how exclusivist Jewish interests have managed to bastardize the term. I always stress “anti-Jewish” and “anti-Arab” hatred or prejudice, I just refuse to use the anti-S. term because it gives credence to Jewish exclusivism.
 Ok, my co-workers are commenting on what a slacker I am, I better get to work here…Later, all
I know, we’re such geeks for the Funny we rearrange our sleep patterns we’ve been practicing all our lives. Hell, if listening to Marc required me to become a Jew I would.

I BELIEVE

Sbluefox- Replay is for PC but there is Wiretap for the Mac.
And for whoever was asking for info about Replay A/V, they offer a trial demo of it before you buy so you can try it.
Its a great program! I would definitely suggest A/V over the Radio version necause of the multiple streams and also that it doesnt use your sound card. My sound card was incompatible but it still works fine so far.
This thing lets you save so much content…its just fantastic!…it will also transfer it directly into your iTunes and onto your iPod or player….
But you do have to keep the computer on. I dont see why the monitor would have to be on, though…and I think that may be the big electricity user. Kim Komand says that its safer to leave your computer on all the time because hackers are trying to get in during the transitions between on and off.
Does anyone know how much it costs to run a regular desktop computer all the time?
Hey gypsy! I have been trying to get back here all day. Yes, I can wave at Portland on a clear day…and get there without my broom on days like today. I would love to get together. Cool—Seditionists: Northwest Division.

China Rushes to Complete $100B Deal With Iran
China is hastening to complete a deal worth as much as $100 billion that would allow a Chinese state-owned energy firm to take a leading role in developing a vast oil field in Iran, complicating the Bush administration’s efforts to isolate the Middle Eastern nation and roll back its nuclear development plans, according to published reports.

druid, it’s cold here, 30 degrees at 11 p.m., it will be colder tomorrow night, down to 25 degrees. our funky self-installed water pipes might freeze. the last time we had weather this cold, in the early 1980s, half of the water pipes in our little community froze. we all stood in line together at the hardware stores to buy new plumbing supplies when the weather warmed up and the pipes unfroze and water poured everywhere in our homes. i’m in the coastal hills 200 miles north of san francisco in humboldt county.

i learned to wake up at 3 a.m. to listen to morning sedition. i’ll learn to be awake from 10 to midnight for marc’s new show. kind of like flying to europe and adjusting to a new time zone and coping with jet lag.
[I started this earlier today and had to leave work; am posting this now that I’m home, so I don’t kow if foggyblue is still here or not, but here goes]:
No, I’m sure you’re right, Foggyblue, about Chomsky criticzing Israel
for land theft. He’s a good debating partner for Dershowitz (they had
at it a couple of months ago at a zionist-packed auditorium at Baruch
College in NYC a couple of months ago, I caught most of it on C-SPAN) and he’s good for as far as he goes. But he rationalizes against the Right of Return for Palestinians, something so basic it’s ridiculous,
and for the hoax of the two-state solution. I say hoax because the
Israeli hardliners never intended for it to happen. Building the
apartheid wall, ‘offering’ a fraction of bantustan-ized pieces of land
as some kind of Palestinian state, and then mobilizing media and world opinion against Palestinians who balk at this, while grooming and courting the corrupt PA (Palestinian Authority). One good website is Electronic Intifada by Ali Abunimah. There’s also Al-Awda. Try googling these. Al Jazeera’s English website has interesting articles on tons of issues, I learned about depleted uranium in Iraq at that site. Even a little digging around can yield a lot of good critiquing of conventional ‘left’ received so called opposition to Israeli atrocities. Not to say there aren’t well meaning people amongst the two-staters. Jeff Blankfort, although I disagree with certain other positions of his, is my mentor for many middle east matters. He and another friend of mine succesfully sued the ADL for domestic spying, I think there’s an
article at Counterpunch about it…Ilan Pappe and Tanya Reinhart and
Amira Hass are the best firsthand critiquers of Likud/Labor atrocities
and scandals, and there are other Israelis writing and speaking. Go to
Mordechai Vanunu’s website, he’s got his photos from Damona nuclear power plant up there. You’ll hear fleetingly if at all about these
people from Tikkun and Chomsky. I think Chomsky just says that Israel can be a Jewish state or a democracy but can’t be both
– but he’s ok with the Israelis avoiding ‘diluting’ their Jewish
demograhpics (by allowing Palestinian right of return, which any Jew in the world has). Did you know that an Israeli can give citizenship to any non-Israeli they marry – *except* to Arabs?

from Finkelstein’s Boycott: A Meta-Narrative on the Ills of ‘Liberal-Zionism’ ,by Mohammed Abed
February 12th 2006
http://www.palestinesolidaritymovement.org/mkabed.htm
“…Norman Finkelstein’s recent article on the ‘economic’ boycott of Israel (‘Why an Economic Boycott of Israel is Justified,’ Aftenposten | 01.14.2006) appears to take a principled moral stand against injustice in Palestine. Finkelstein’s views are couched in the language and methodology of ‘objective’ scholarship, even if ‘editorial’ is a more appropriate description of the article’s surface form. Consistent with the basic principles of ‘semantic sleight of hand,’ the article contains more than its fair share of true statements, most of them established by constant references to independent reports produced by International and Israeli human rights organizations, United Nations Resolutions, and various international treaties and conventions to which the state of Israel is a signatory. This ‘scholarly’ edifice creates and sustains a semantic fugue that deflects the reader’s attention away from the highly controversial – if not downright false – claims that Finkelstein smuggles into the article. The author offers no arguments for these claims, and yet they contain the seed of what is, in essence, the ‘liberal-Zionist’ narrative about resolution of the conflict in historical Palestine. Of course the reality about ‘liberal-Zionism’ is that it’s a contradiction in terms; Zionism is an exclusionary national movement that prevents the return of the Palestinian Refugees and exiles to their homeland on the basis that their presence would ‘upset’ Israel’s Judeo-centric ‘demographic’ balance, whereas there’s nothing in liberal political theory that would justify the state placing limitations on where an individual can live on the basis of nothing more than their ethnic origin. Just as the apparatus of ‘scholarly’ discourse can be used to legitimize claims that are morally indefensible, ‘moderate’ Zionists can use the language of liberal-democracy and human rights to conceal a deep ideological affinity with oppressive institutions and an unwillingness to recognize that it’s in everybody’s long-term interests that those institutions be dismantled.
Finkelstein tells us that ‘the basic terms for resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict are embodied in U.N. resolution 242 and subsequent U.N. resolutions, which call for a full Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank and Gaza and the establishment of a Palestinian state in these areas in exchange for recognition of Israel’s right to live in peace and security with its neighbors.’ The first thing to notice about this claim is its placement in the text. Rather than supporting it with an argument that takes account of all the relevant facts and applies principles the author professes to endorse in an impartial manner, the claim is strategically placed at the conclusion of four long paragraphs that express, in stock scholarly terms, Finkelstein’s disapproving attitude towards Israel’s policies of wanton killing of Palestinian civilians, torture, house demolition, and the ‘apartheid nature’ of its regime in the West Bank and Gaza. Since the fourth paragraph contains perhaps the best example of semantic sleight of hand in the entire article, I consider it in more detail below, but for the moment, we can note that nothing in the paragraphs preceding the sentence quoted above provides any support for the idea that ‘embodied’ in U.N. Resolution 242 are ‘the basic terms for resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict,’ and yet the placement of this claim makes it seem as if the two-state program is the logical outcome of accepting a body of facts about judiciously selected aspects of Israel’s human rights record, even though in reality, there is no more than a tenuous connection between the two. The two-state program does not naturally follow from the facts Finkelstein has chosen to highlight, appearances to the contrary, so we might wonder about the set of criteria he’s using to determine what counts as an appropriate selection. If we knew this, we would have a basis for explaining why violations that seem to be relevant from a ‘human rights’ perspective are omitted…”
druid, are you serious? you live in humboldt county? we are neighbors???? omg!!!
i’ve been fascinated at your stories about living with the wolves and wolf-dogs and now living in the city, but i never imagined it was here, i thought it was l.a. or san diego or santa barbara.
i’ve thought about your stories about going from the wilds to civilization several times in the last month because my husband and i learned that we have to leave the small cabin (17 foot square, one room with a loft) on 40 acres at the end of 12 miles of dirt road where we’ve lived for the past 27 years. we are land partners with folks who want to sell their 80 acres. my husband and i don’t have $$$ to buy them out (you know what land prices are like around here), so we’ll have to move to town somewhere nearby. it’s going to take some adjusting. i don’t cry every day like i did last month, but i still don’t take kindly to the idea of having to move when i don’t want to. then i think about the people in iraq and new orleans and mississippi and darfur who lost their homes and don’t have anywhere to go and i realize we’re lucky here, we’re just going through an inconvenience, we’ll be fine.
but i do think about how you moved to town after living in the wilds.
i’ll miss seeing the bear, the coyote, the bobtail cat, the mountain lion, the deer, the flock of hermit thrushes that meet on the path outside our window each morning. i’ll miss the utter quiet. no noise of machines indoors or outdoors. no traffic noise except maybe one airplane high overhead each day and helicopters now and then. oh well. life goes on. the towns in humboldt county are good towns. we’ll find something somewhere.
ex-newyorker, wow. thx. what a response. wheels within wheels. i asked because i want to know about how the left has it wrong and about how the hypocrisy works behind the two-state solution in israel. i’ve gotten some insight into this viewpoint from listening to amy goodman for years. now i’ve got my homework cut out for me.
Thanks.
SINGING FISH! Oh yeah! That’s right! They better have the do re mi.
travis, good luck with finding your mp3 of nirvana’s do re mi. i googled the lyrics to see what you were up to because i’ve never heard the tune. heavy duty lyrics, travis. i hope we don’t have to worry about you. after visiting 1000 websites, you deserve to have the mp3.
good nite all. time for some sleep. maybe marc will show up on this blog again some day soon.
I just accidentally erased a long idyllic story about my yoga retreat to the Humboldt Lost Coast ten years ago, where I saw a whale migration right on the beach there, and the yoga instructor got a tick in his neck but a veterinarian in the group dug it out. Those were the highlights, but what a bummer to lose the one I wrote. Sorry you are having to leave, that is sad. I hope you find a nice place that’s not too noisy.
Foggyblue, it’s thorny. Wheels withing wheels, indeed. I’m learning every hour. I guess I have to keep learning and relearning that no one person or group has all the answers, but some have more complete analysis than others, that’s all. And complete analysis is complicated. But we’ve got to fight the dumbing down process that’s being popularized, a la 1984. Don’t those readings from 1984 by Mike Malloy give you the chills? Especially those eerily muffled bells that open the segments. Those bells put a chill right through me, like someone’s walking on my grave…
foggyblue Number 1 — by reminding myself of the horrors that others have to endure I make it through.
But truth — 😥 I have been out here for 5ish years — and I still have difficulty. We had a VERY SIMILAR land situation with similar housing with our own out house — which I loved. The sounds are alien here in Eka, but I also need to be here for now. But I/we need to be here now and look at this hell. This land is calling for your help — is why I think we Had to leave mtns. 😥 I have even drawn most of what the land around looks like and are hanging in my office/home. I know you then saw that comet (Hale-Bop(sp) flying. Your hearing will be so intense compared to others. I 😥 too, miss my family with the Lions and Coyotes and Bears and more Oh My.

So g’night all. Thanks for good conversation, once again. Peace and sweet dreams, let’s forget the horrors for awhile. :peace:

Rex 84, short for Readiness Exercise 1984, was a plan by the United States federal government to test their ability to detain large numbers of American citizens in case of massive civil unrest or national emergency. Exercises similar to Rex 84 happen periodically. From 1967 to 1971 the FBI kept a list of persons to be rounded up as subversive, dubbed the “ADEX” list. (Donner, Age p. 166.)

Hey ex-ny’er. Thanks for the posts. I will unpack Abed’s analysis, and get back with you later. Initial response: Picking the wrong target. Finkelstein is no pseudo-lefty liberal. However, I will have to find his position on UN 194 (Palestinian Right of Return). I find hit hard to believe that he rejects it outright. What is the framework that Abed (and PSC) advocates for the framework, if not UN 242?
Glad to see that the Palestine Solidarity Committee is active. I was a member of Seattle’s branch in the early 1990s. I got discouraged after the Oslo surrender.
are they screetchers? the strays
some strays like my roof. y? idk!
Will you still need me? Will you still feed me when I’m 64?
check it, my little droogies!
Sounds like Mario Brothers, huh?:rofl2:
I see now. The Palestinian Solidarity Movement is not the same as the Palestinian Solidarity Committee.
Upon readin Abed’s full article, my quick assessment is that he spend a lot of time saying that people like Chomsky and Finkelstein do not support the Palestinians’ right of return. Absolutely untrue in the case of Chomsky. Probably the same with Finkelstein. Ever check the National Lawyers’ Guild’s position on this issue?
UN 242 is not necessarily incompatible with 194. Remember that the former does not even mention the Palestinians’ right of national self-determination. Now, it is synonymous with it, through the 2-state solution. Who is to say that right of return cannot be somehow included?
My take is that there is no political climate to support UN 194 at this time. Perhaps that is the goal of the PSM. I advocated a long time ago to establish Palestinian support groups like CISPES to “educate, agitate, and organize” towards changing US policy towards the Middle East.
(Quick note: Abed should also factor in that Israel will be reluctant to give up the West Bank because of the abundant water resources found there.)
King Kong A few live under the house. One I feed here but it NEEDS to be free — so I leave in till other outdoor ones are fed. They all have the :growl: so I have to stand between some. 7 (and sometimes eight(8)) are now adopted and I get all fixed even the outdoor ones.
I now have seven rats (started saving the two when they were on there way To Death)and in a week, then there were 7.
Danu is the only monster pup that was not a stray.
Sorry. I didn’t mean to talk so much about them but they all are my peace and calm — during this INSANE GOV TAKEOVER by the Twit rethugs.
And number four, refugees. On the question of refugees, it’s not a dispute under international law. Remarkably, even fairly conservative human rights organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, in 2000, during the Camp David talks, they issued statements on the question of the right of return. And they stated categorically, under international law every Palestinian, roughly five to six million, has the right to return, not to some little parcels, 1% of Israel, which Israel is about — which Israel would swap, return to their homes or the environs of their homes in Israel. That’s the law. Now, Dr. Ben-Ami will surely agree that the Palestinians were not demanding and never demanded the full return of six million refugees. He gives a figure of 4-800,000. In fact — I’m not going to get into the numbers, because it’s very hard to pin it down — other authors have given figures of the tens of thousands to 200,000 refugees returning. That’s well short of six million. . . (Norman Finkelstein)
