Visakha Puja, is a big day for Buddhists (not that I’m an expert). To put it in Christian perspective (which, being a heathen and all, I am also no expert in), it’s a bit like Christmas, Good Friday, and Jesus’ realization at age 12 all rolled into one. Today (the day of the full moon in May) is the day that the Buddha was born, and also the day 35 years after that when he had his “self-awakening,” and also the day that, 45 years after that, he passed away into total NibbÄna (aka, Nirvana), from eating bad pork, I think.
So, whatever you do today, whether you offer flowers, candles, and incense in material homage (amisa-puja), or offer homage through “the practice” (meditation to develop the mind so that it may stand in its own inner goodness, independent of outside ickiness) — patipatti-puja (which is just downright fun to say, and something I would love to be able to master) — or just go out to the park with the puppies after work and try to become one with the trees for an hour before drinking yourself to sleep, Happy Buddha Day!
Oh, and lay off the pork.

Obama manana!

Yesterday, I was cold. I had to wear my jacket while I was working. Very strange weather.
Tomorrow will be worse, though, because tomorrow is the day of the end-term luncheon. This means I get to eat in some expensive Manhattan restaurant, where they will accommodate my “no meat” dictate by serving me very spicy vegetables. Yuck!
Besides, end-term parties should come at the end of th term, not two weeks before. It’s a bit anti-climatic.
Kevin, have fun!
😀 can i come eat the fancy meat? (god that sounds so gay)

Well after much incompetance on the part of the dealer, I finally have the car.
That’s pretty cool Andy, you could share that parking space with another smart car. Luckily you’re not the age where your friends are likely to pick the thing up and move it just to screw with you. I wonder how many people could lift that thing?
Maron v. Seder now
Any idea how I can record this to realplayer while it’s happening? I did it in april but I don’t remember how.
art, I have never figured it out. That stuff makes my brain hurt. I mostly depend on the kindness of strangers. My reception is usually pretty hinky anyway as a rule.
Seder said there is a 50-50 chance something would happen to one of them in the next few weeks that would make it impossible for them to continue to do this M v. S thing.
Andy — That little Smartcar is a real beauty
Wish you the best of luck with it and many many happy miles :dancers:

CNN is reporting that Senator Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor.
My Heart
HeartsHurts 😥 Sue P and watching … 😥 /|\When older people can no longer remember names at a cocktail party, they tend to think that their brainpower is declining. But a growing number of studies suggest that this assumption is often wrong.
Instead, the research finds, the aging brain is simply taking in more data and trying to sift through a clutter of information, often to its long-term benefit.

I know how he feels. Ted Kennedy has always been a good guy. It’s frustrating not to be able to do anything but wish him well.

If S vs. S goes off the air, at least they gave it a shot, and fought the vagaries of streaming technology as best they could.
RG! I LOVE your new gravitar! :rofl2:
Hey, Where’s Fred been? :crap:
Vernon how was the show? :knit:
Audio from today’s Maron v. Seder
Did you go to Stand Uppity? 🙄
Yep.
It was good. I liked the other 2 guys. Maron was very good but a little disjointed, more so than other times. A little problem with an obnoxious member of the audience but we got to see Maron’s A-game heckler rant.
Marc is always great. I got him to sign my book afterwards and he said the show had a weird pace and vibe.
